Dunlop Roadsmart 3 Tires

The Dunlop Roadsmart III Tires are the latest version of the Dunlop Roadsmart Tire Series. In development of the Roadsmart 3 Tire Dunlop performed an internal test putting the Roadsmart III Tire up against the Michelin Pilot Road 4 Tires over a distance of 3,000 miles. The results show the Dunlop leads the Michelin in all categories. Dunlop's exclusive MT Multi-Tread design binds a high-mileage compound to the center, and high adhesion compound to the lateral flanks for high cornering grip. New front and rear tire compounds enhance wear resistance, and include an innovative resin that increases wet grip. Rear tire profile designed to increase the footprint and improve mileage. Optimized construction for mileage and wet performance. New sidewall construction helps to provide superior shock absorption and precise handling. Innovative new cross groove tread pattern achieves better drainage in the wet for more grip.

If I had to describe this tire in 2 words it would be 'outstanding mileage'. I got 6000 very aggressive (acceleration to red line out of corners!) km out of this tire. In comparison, I only got 8000 km at a moderate spirited pace out of Michelin Road 5's. The steering is very light and neutral giving good handling that also doesn't degrade as badly toward the end of the tires' life compared to the Michelin's. Grip in the rain is only average (and downright scary in <7° C rain) compared to the Michelin's, but dry grip is very comparable making for an excellent alternative if you only ride when it's dry. All that said, I cannot give this tire a high score simply due to how insanely difficult it is to install and remove the tires! The tire's excessively stiff sidewall makes for a very unpleasant installation experience without a tire machine even when heated up to finger-burning temperatures, and it doesn't get better when it comes time to remove the tire as it literally doesn't want to un-bead from the rim! The Michelin's were a dream to install and remove in comparison.

Dunlop RoadSmart III's are way better than I am, so no need for the IV's.

The way I ride I hope to get 10,000 plus from them. I can take the savings to help pay to get them mounted. Still, tires are $$$ so even good ones remain salty to buy.I rate tread life a four as people seem to get 10,000 miles out of them. Of course the traction and wear can't be a five as the IV's claim to improve those aspects a little. For prior generation tires, they seemed to be top rated in their prime. Today, a touch off the pace of a pro level rider, not me.

This is a 4 or 5 star tire depending on how you use it. Its designed to provide great grip once warm but it doesn't warm up as fast as some. I find a full 5 minutes of careful warmup is needed in cool to cold weather, which is only a problem for me because I have a 7-min commute and want to ride as much as possible in winter and spring. Flip side, and the main reason to buy is that it allows you to do some superslab in the summer without ruining the profile. I have >6k on a set and I am just starting to think about replacing the rear, the front is fine. So that's pretty much what I wanted. I am surprised to hear about cupping issues because I bought these over the R5 based on the more cupping resistant front tread pattern (I don't trust the horizontal sipes). I have not had significant cupping on mine. So my advice is that these are a fantastic high mileage sport touring tire as long as you give them time to warm up in cool weather. I wish I had been able to use these on more long rides because they are awesome for that.

First Set of New Tires on R1200RT - Commuting

Cycle Gear sales associate recommended the Roadsmart III. Great price, we will see how they wear over time. After 1200 miles on the Dunlops, no noise, no vibration and very little wear.I mostly commute on the highway. Occasionally tour with the wife.Have not ridden in the rain. I do not ride aggressively, sometimes get a little slip in the rear but that may be me. I am happy with the tire and will likely purchase again unless I run into issues as the tires age.I mounted and balanced the tires. The front required a small amount of weight, the rear did not require weight. Mounting was easy with a tire machine. Balancing was easy with a spin balancer. This seems to work well.I am not new to riding but recently returned after a lengthy absence. I put the tires on a R1200RT. I purchased the bike with 3000 miles on it and Michelins. I assume they came with the bike when new. I put 9,000 miles on the Michelins the front was badly cupped, the rear had significant wear in the middle of the tire. The cupping seemed to lead to noise and a bit of vibration.

Long lasting

I love these tires. This is the second set I've purchased for my zx14r. The first set got me 16,000 miles before my 5 year limit. Could have gotten more but ts my personal preference. I guess when these are no longer available I'll switch to the IV. There isn't anything I can say negatively about these tires. The chapmoto customer service is top tier. So friendly and super helpful. Mike is the man!

Perfect touring commuter

Have them for the last two swaps on my K1300GT. They provide great mileage, exceptional grip both in commute conditions and on the slow ride with the cones dragging pegs. Decent performance on the cold wet road as well, even though we don't have much of that in SoCal. Looking at over 7k miles on the rear on average and closer to 10k on the front. Are there grippier tires? Sure. Do you really need them for the commute with occasional twisties on a heavy bike? My $20 says that it's unlikely. Will they last as long as these? Definitely no. Trade-offs exist for a reason, and this is a wonderful trade-off. Will replace them with exactly the same ones for the third time.

Solid Sport Touring Tires

Improved grip comfort and longevity over the stock metzlers trail and the dunlop trail tires I have tried on my tiger 800.I also run these on my Daytona 675r. Do they grip as hard core as the Q3+ that I used to run? No. But they are more comfortable and last 3x longer and provide more than adequate grip for 99% of the riding that I do. The bit of grooving also gives me more confidence that I would lowside my beautiful SS over a bit unavoidable of sand/gravel/a wet spot.

First set of tires, project bike I bought had dry rotted pirelli Diablo's on it and those tires never made me feel safe so I never really tried actual riding on them but they were stiff. Now after I put these on and went for my first ride the bike was a new animal she danced like the boy bands of old lemme tell you and it was bye bye bye pirelli for my SV. I'll be hard pressed to run anything else from here on out because the way she rides for me now?I want it that way.One of my first days commuting and the first time I rode home on the freeway it rained and I never even worried about slipping or sliding around so great wet gripEnough puns. Buy the tires.

You get what you pay for.

I bought these for my ST1300 when I couldn't find a matching set of Michelins in the correct sizes. After 500 miles, I am taking them off. I have been running the Honda specified 42psi front and rear, with the same suspension settings that have worked well with previous tires, and I am not impressed. They are squirrelly in the corners, to the point where my wife asked what was wrong with the bike. I haven't ridden in the wet with them yet, but given the poor dry performance I don't want to even attempt it. I just dropped the extra cash to get the Michelin road 6s, and will consider the amount I paid for the Dunlops the price of education.

I highly recommend these tires. I ride a 2013 bmw r1200r and I have had Bridgestone,Pirelli and now Dunlop. I have 8000 miles so far and even the rear is not showing much wear and I don't take it easy. They are great in the curves but not as sticky as the pirellis which only lasted less than 4000 with the metal exposed. I'll report back when they hit 12000 or when they're used up. Then I will buy another set.
