I bought these two years ago (November 2018). I left a two star review after about two weeks into ownership but after using them for hundreds of removals - I gotta say my 2 star is now a 5 star. My biggest issue is the velcro coming off the calf area - treestuff staff reached out to me and gave me a few pointers on storage and use and it helped. They said newer pads are stiffer and it would need a break in period. Didn't think it made sense but after my 10th or 12th removal the velcro stays where it should without issues. Also the notch gaff guards work great with these spikes.

These are the most comfortable spurs I’ve ever had. I climb four days a week. Just this week I ascended the most technical Bradford pear tree I’ve ever had to do (growing at a 45 degree angle over a home) around 9:30 AM. I didn’t come down until after 5:30 PM when the tree was completed. (I even ate lunch in the tree standing in the spurs). My legs felt amazingly comfortable, secure, and didn’t hurt the next day either. These are night and day better than the Buckingham spurs I’ve been using. I’m couldn’t be more satisfied with the purchase. The long Velcro straps are the only aspect that isn’t perfect, but it doesn’t affect my climbing at all. I’d recommend them to anyone who wants to be able to focus on the tree work and not the pain in their legs caused by spurs.

True 5 out of 5 Rating!By far most comfortable Spikes I have ever used. Haven’t experienced any of the Velcro Strap problems others have, however the calf pads are attached to the plastic cuff via 3 small Velcro pieces that are glued to the cuff and after several months the glue holding that in place has worn off so when not in use the pads are basically separate. But when I put them on, I put the pad in place and strap up and I’m good to go, the pad has only slipped out of place on me once and that’s because I don’t think I had it exactly in place, in the first place :) one of these days I will get around to glueing them back. The bottom part for your foot has two separate straps and they are also velcro style, so in comparison to a normal leather strap and buckle ... MoreTrue 5 out of 5 Rating!By far most comfortable Spikes I have ever used. I have not experienced any problems with the straps being too long or anything tho. And what I’ve found to be the easiest method is to leave the back strap alone, and when I’m done undo the front strap and just wiggle my foot out, and same thing when I put them on, I just wiggle my heel in place and tight against the already strapped back strap and then strap on the front strap, boom good to go!Definitely a really great design in reference to the angled shank, lightweight! Comfortable! And bottom line, effective AKA they get the job done. I definitely would recommend and say they are worth the money if other spikes really bother you, or you do a ton of removals and spend a lot of time on spikes. But if you already have spikes and they don’t bother you, or maybe don’t even do that many removals anyway, spend your money on something else, cuz $600 is indeed a lot of money. But if anyone’s ever been in a Tree miserable with shin and foot pain, looking for any and every stub to stand on For a moment of relief, than these spikes are worth every single penny of that $600

Great spikes but room for improvement. The bottom strap that goes across the top of your foot is awkward to loop through the eyelet, especially since the eyelet is on the outside of your foot. This makes for a one handed attempt. Plus I feel I should be cinching them down pulling toward the outside not the inside where the excess velcro dangles next to the sharp spurs and tree bark. My biggest concern is I cant bend my knee more than 90 degrees. I feel like there should be a cut out on the back so that the pad doesnt dig into my quads. The high pads make for great comfort but lack in maneuverability. Other than that best set of spurs I've worn in 15 years and I cant wait for an updated version
I’ve have these spikes for more than 2 years now. They're extremely comfortable but with that comfort comes a little bit of bulk. I don’t mind this but don’t expect to be able to bend your leg all the way, as others have expressed in previous reviews. The generous padding, flexible cuffs, and dual (high and low) adjustable velcro straps cradle the calf comfortably, while the contoured shank yields no inner-shin soreness, even after hours in the tree. You’ll love these if you spend a lot of time doing removals, just be sure to take care of your velcro! I hit the velcro with an air compressor after every messy removal. If you allow that sawdust and gunk to accumulate, you’ll wear through your velcro straps fast. Take care of your velcro and it’ll take care of you! ... MoreI’ve have these spikes for more than 2 years now. They're extremely comfortable but with that comfort comes a little bit of bulk. If you allow that sawdust and gunk to accumulate, you’ll wear through your velcro straps fast. Take care of your velcro and it’ll take care of you! Also, as others have mentioned, the upper straps can be a bit long. You don’t want the tail of the velcro straps sticking out during a removal. I did that a few times and had my velcro catch on things and come loose. I tuck that small tail into one of the “vents” and underneath the plastic cuff, if that makes sense. After doing that, I’ve never had any velcro issues mid-removal. I also never adjust the strap that goes over the foot. Once set to my size, I left it there. In order to remove the spikes, I just undo the heel strap and slip my foot out. It’s easier than undoing every strap every single time.
Soooo comfortable. I seriously could not believe how much my legs didn’t hurt after a day in the tree. Expensive but worth it in my opinion, I think my knees etc might last a few more years using these in lieu of my old school spikes. These are very adjustable and very easy to adjust. I tried someone else’s before I bought these, I am glad I did since they aren’t so expensive, but if you don’t have a chance to do that, I don’t think you will be disappointed going ahead and buying these wonderful spurs. Hope they last a long long time
Just unboxed yesterday... So can only review my first impressions... Will update this week after hovering into the tree..First impressionsWas concerned they may feel "Fisher-Pricey" with all the futuristic high-tech materials. They did not. Feel well built and solid.Comfortable! Feel no pressure points and seem to cradle the calf and foot with no slippage. Also the alignment feels spot on compared to other worn in the past.In the tree will be the next test.My one concern is that the uppers do seem a bit bulky and I like to be as streamlined and aerodynamic as possible, however I think it may be how I felt when I bought my first Protos helmet and thought it was a bulky astronaut helmet... It's now a part of me and won't wear any other..To be continued....
While these are by far the most comfortable spurs I have ever used there are some drawbacks that keep me from giving this a full 5 star rating. They're close and I'm eagerly awaiting the adjustments that TreeStuff and Edelrid are saying will be available before the end of the year.Pros: That said the improvements in these spurs are numerous. They are incredibly light, especially for a steel shank spur. Leg cuffs and straps offer unbeatable adjust-ability and comfort, though if you have small legs the straps are still very long. Velcro leg straps are super convenient and secure. The padding and leg cuffs are unbeatable and kudo's for up-cycling the plastic.Cons: The main downside for me has been the foot straps. I have size 10 boots and even with the smallest adjustment option I have to cinch the straps all the way to the point where there is barely any overlap for the hook and loop closure. My friends with larger feet have no issues and they feel super secure. However, it's been a struggle for me. It works but just ok. I've contacted TreeStuff and they say a fix is in the works with Edelrid. However, for the price I wish this would have launched as a more complete setup with options for smaller foot straps, gaff guards, and ascenders ready to go. I've been informed the Gaff Guardians won't fit these.Overall, these are still the most comfortable spurs I've tried (compared to standard Buckingham T pads, Geko's, Carbon Distels). Anxiously awaiting the updated straps and other accessories that are in the works. Till then at least the days of sore shins are gone for good.
So far I am loving these gaffs! Very light weight for steel. They have great padding and comfort while standing in the tree on long removals. The Velcro straps allow for good adjustment and a tight fit. These are one of the few gaffs available with an attachable foot ascender for use with SRS. The gaffs are very modular with the ability to replace damaged or worn out parts. Overall a great design.
Just got to spend a few consecutive days in them and my question is, Edelrid do you need product testers? From the product video I see that these were supposedly designed by what climbers wanted in a spur but you have missed the mark. These spurs are over-engineered pieces of junk. The comfy looking padding doesn't matter if the shank is still able to push through the padding and bruise the sides of my shins. The velcro on the padding didn't last one day of serious tree work with small particulates sticking to it and rendering is useless, making them actually hazardous and a real safety concern. I was swimming in the straps.
