I am really happy with this meter. I needed a meter with a very fast response time to test if PLC circuits were actually dropping to zero during transitions. I need the LoZ function to make sure the voltage is real. I regularly use the large display to show max/min/average in real time, or voltage and frequency, all at the same time. I can’t stress enough how nice it is to have a meter with more than one display line. I often use the AC & DC simultaneous display, which is very helpful for probing circuits when the voltage type is unknown or changing. I can trust the accuracy and safety. The Lo-ohms feature is a bonus to get very accurate and relative readings. The USB interface doesn’t fit right and pops off when any movement or bump occurs (Fluke has sent a replacement which has the same problem.) The Bluetooth device fits securely so I dont think the issue is the meter itself, but the FVF cable. The kickstand isn’t molded quite right and doesn’t stay closed. Just a nitpick, but the serial # sticker is illegible and put on crooked. But, the unit works, the screen is clean, it does more than most anyone else’s meter I’ve come across, and does it well.

People complains at:1.- Long start up, 3 sec? Well I have an oldie -maybe 30 years old or more- Fluke 73 Series II takes aprox. 4 sec and still works like a champ!!! hope this one last 1/3 of that time, at least, and for sure it will.2.- Weak test leads...? I have some old leads that still looks good but the probes attached to those leads are "like melting" and breaking in pieces. Degradation of the polymer, plastic or whatever over time. Logically, naturally, intuitively, and by manufacturer recommendations, I won't use those for high volt/current tests. New leads, with a thin and fragile look, must meet the CAT standard as indicated. FLUKE, nor any other prestigious manufacturer will put anyone on risk, just change your leads/probes when not in good shape.FVF ... MorePeople complains at:1.- Long start up, 3 sec? Software bundled on CD/DVD are ok for old computers, most of new computers/laptops don't have DVD/CD units. So asked FLUKE where to download the FVF software and they e-mailed it to me next day.The FLUKE 289 is for me like a Swiss Army knife done in a multimeter, everything I need in just one package!By the moment, excellent. Time will tell.

Fluke 289 Reliable-Accurate-Safety

They all are superior to what my coworkers use for electrical testing. 95% of hvac problems are electrical so it is important to have quality test equipment that is calibrated.Example of Fluke saving the day!I was working with another technician one day on commercial RTU's, 3-phase 480V line voltage isupplied to each unit. My coworker had a cheap no name meter which was reading 0 volts on each of the three legs which I thought was very odd. I grabbed my 289 and walked over quickly and checked the line voltage in the service disconnect. What did I find.. and each leg was HOT! This techs cheap meter almost cost him his life because of not buying good equipment we used to put food in our stomachs.... and he kept that deadly ometer!! I wanted to smash it!MY FLUKE 289 saved his life that day because I know I can always count on my test equipment to provide me with fast accurate readings.I've had many, many high end name DMM, but nothing could display run capacitor microfarad readings as fast as my 289 and 87V. I've watched others take readings of capacitors that would to literally take 3-4 seconds to display a reading and then another few seconds for the reading to settle. They even had a decent brand name of equipment. Fluke is the standard to which all other meters are compared to. Accuracy of Fluke published meter resolutions are not exaggerated like many other brands.Ever since I was young my father always had a Fluke test equipment so I was never exposed to the junk that is sold all over today. I only buy the best equipment I can afford and it pays dividends down the line!People complain about the price of well made test equipment, such as Fluke, but having accurate, reliable readings gives me a edge when performing diagnostics of problems quickly. my Fluke 289 meter is safe and I never need, or will, second guess a reading I took because you $30 DMM has poor tolerences, cheap test leads with high resistance, lack of a CAT rating that ensures the equipment will protect its user.Their is a reason why Chinese produce meters that appear to look like a fluke from the color and mouldings. This should be a big hint to consumers. Knock offs of poorly known products are not made. Only the top of the line products are duplicated because of their reputations and known quality of the original products.BTW,ALWAYS test and inspect your meters test leads. They're just as important as having a well made Fluke DMM!CHEERS!

Fluke 289 a few issues off the line
22 April 2021

I'm a loyal Fluke user since the 1980s. Even though it's a very mature instrument, the 289 hit all of my requirements. The meter I received had some annoying issues and needed to be returned. TE Equipment was nothing short of outstanding in the way they handled it. Three issues were as follows: Display was crooked inside the meter. Dust behind the display lens, and you may not believe this, the probe ends had some kind of barely conductive residue that made continuity simply intermittent at best. I had a similar problem years ago on another product and cleaned the probes with scotch-brite and they worked fine. TE took the ball and sent me a new meter without issue. A few pros: Compared to the equivalent Keysight, the 289 has very easy and intuitive feature ... MoreI'm a loyal Fluke user since the 1980s. A few pros: Compared to the equivalent Keysight, the 289 has very easy and intuitive feature selection. It's fast and as accurate as advertised and it's easily going to be a 30 year lifespan meter. The only small annoyance is the display is definitely not as crisp as the pictures. That said, it quickly grew on me and I love the amount of information that rivals my bench meter. In short, you will get used to it and the pros far outweigh the cons. When fast updating there is a bit of ghosting but it really doesn't matter when you really need to catch thing, the min/max statistics are perfect.

Great meter, and the FVF kit is a big savings
10 January 2016

I bought this as one of my first quality meters. I was tired of replacing the $65 to $75 meter each year. In 10yrs that's over $700 so with the 10yr minimum Fluke warranty and all it came with it was worth the price and no worries. The cheaper meters I was buying every year also didn't have the logging capabilities and not as accurate or durable like the 289. This meter has been great, logging works as expected. I have the software running on Windows 10 and no issues.I added up the items in the kit like the TPAK, Case, and software/cable and buying the FVF Kit was a big savings. I was going to get the TPAK and cable anyway, and a case for protection. I was going to get the TPAK and cable anyway, and a case for protection. I wanted the cable not only for reports but also for software updates and to put my name and contact info on the meter if I ever lost it. I contacted Fluke and they confirmed that the FVF Kit comes with the full version of Fluke View Forms software, and not just the basic version so that's even more of a savings. The TPAK magnet holder is stronger then I expected and very useful. Much stronger magnet then the generic version so I don't worry about the meter falling when I'm using the TPAK.And with the promotions when I bought mine it came with a free borescope that retails for $200, I would put the price more about worth $100 but it was useful tracking a leak in my ceiling shortly after I received it so I'm glad I had it.For an unboxing video on everything included the borescope you can watch this:https://youtu.be/CUmbSlDm9LcAnd when I bought mine the fluke promotion allowed me to choose a 32GB iPod Touch (6th gen) that I'm now using with the Flir One for the iPhone 5/5S. I think the items changed in the fluke promo? But fluke still has other free items to choose and they always seem to have at least one current running promotion. So if your thinking about the Fluke 289 and buying a case and the TPAK, that alone is worth buying this kit for the price and it includes the cable and full version software that comes in this Fluke/289 FVF kit. The kit saves a lot of money instead of buying these items individually. This is the price break down I did. Some prices are rounded up for convenience. All prices listed are with a TEquiptment.net online registered account, so be sure to make an account and sign in first to see the better prices.Fluke 289 meter only (not the kit) $520Fluke C280 carry case $39Fluke TPAK $37Fluke View Forms Full W/Cable $217*($142 but this kit comes with the Full version)Total $813 w / Fluke View Forms Full software and cable*Or $738 w / Fluke View Forms Basic software and cableSo you can see it's cheaper to buy the kit and it might qualify you for a Fluke Promotion and maybe the free borescope from TEquiptment if they still include that with the online purchase of the Fluke 289/FVF Kit.EASY ONLINE TIPS FOR FLUKE PROMOTIONSFor the price of the 289/FVF Kit I was and current Fluke Promotion I qualified for the Level 2 category gifts. It's faster and easier to complete this online then to print a PDF and mail it in. You can see the current promotions here:http://en-us.fluke.com/products/contests-and-promotions/Click on the current promotion you would be qualified for (hint, TEquiptment usually lists the current promotion on the site with the item your going to buy). Review the items in the category your qualified for and then click on "Redeem Online" at the bottom of the page. Then just fill out the online form and attach a couple pictures like a picture of the invoice once you receive your 289 FVF Kit and submit this to Fluke. You will need to create a Fluke account for online redemption, but you would also need this anyway to register your meter for warranty.I hope this review helps, good luck in finding the correct meter for, your needs.

I just got my stand alone Fluke 289. I think I got a good deal from Home Essentials Direct. Right now Home Essentials Direct is offering $104.98 coupon deal or discount, plus free(no charge) calibration from Transcat. I could not pass this deal. I also have the tank, pardon me, the Fluke 28II, both meters are top notch, of course, the 289 is the best. I use these meters in my personal lab, I design things like a Home Thermostat, Garage Door Opener, of course this devices are controlled by the iPhone, etc. This meter was designed years ago, about 10+ years I think. So is an old school meter. Fluke just keeps updating it a bit. Here is the good part about my meter, it says was manufactured December 2018 here in the USA. Right now Home Essentials Direct is offering $104.98 coupon deal or discount, plus free(no charge) calibration from Transcat. I could not pass this deal. I also have the tank, pardon me, the Fluke 28II, both meters are top notch, of course, the 289 is the best. This meter is fresh out of the oven, when I got it was still smoking. It was calibrated January 29, 2019 by Transcat. It cannot get any better than this. Here is an odd detail: The firmware says is version 1.41, really? I dont think Fluke has that firmware version out yet. I could be wrong. I have observed a couple odd issues, I am not sure if these are really issues or this is the way the meter is, somehow that does not make any sense to me. Here is the first one: The backlight display has some weird setup: If I press: 1 the backlight display goes High 2 the backlight display goes Low 3 it turn OFF the backlight display Pressing 1 should be LOW, pressing 2 should be high, and 3 OFF. I believe this is what the manual says. If we are in the saving battery deal, it got be this way. The other issue, or could be not an issue. I need to contact Fluke, may be I dont know the meter too well yet. Anyway, in Setup, Display, Format, Number Format, it shows 0.000, if I press Edit, does not do anything, does not change anything. UPDATE 04/17/19 I contacted Fluke about the firmware version, they say the 1.41 is the latest and greatest, Fluke will update the web site soon. The number format "issue" there is no issue here, it just changes from dot to comma and vice versa, just look closely. The High/Low(it should Low then High) brightness Fluke says will investigate that.

To me, this is the ultimate multimeter. Besides its graphing and data logging capabilities, there are features like the LoZ Volts mode which you can use to eliminate ghost voltages when performing absence of voltage verification. This multimeter has great resistance and capacitance measurement ranges, very good resolution, filtering capabilities and so much more! With all these features, its bulkiness and higher battery consumption are expected. I havent dropped one yet (been using them at work for years) thankfully, but I dont feel like they are super durable. We had one of the tabs in the battery compartment break off rendering this very expensive meter useless. This happens a lot apparently. Instead of trying to kluge something, buy a replacement battery ... MoreTo me, this is the ultimate multimeter. Seller shipped the unit out fast and well wrapped in bubble wrap to protect the meter. The meter works great and seems to be inline with my Fluke 87V. The unit looked like it had very little use and/or was well taken care of. All functions works and its quite nice to have a logging meter.
