The methods used in creating Gamakatsu hooks is what makes it so superior to all other brands. First, only the most premium grade of high carbon steel is used. This insures against any blemishes in the metal which can weaken the hook. Secondly, Gamakatsu has the most advanced tempering system in the world. Every hook is heated to the exact temperature that is perfect for that particular style and size then cooled in oil. This process produces hooks which are super strong, but not brittle. It is extremely difficult to achieve a balance between strength and flexibility, and it took many years for Gamakatsu to perfect this process. Finally, and perhaps most importantly, our sharpening process is the most modern in the world, and results in a perfectly conical point that is unequalled in sharpness.

Gamakatsu Octopus Hooks in Black, Size 3/0 from The Fishin' Hole

Used the red 5/0 Gamakatsu Octopus hooks on a recent black seabass trip out of Virginia Beach and they worked perfectly. They hold up well and caught me a limit. My choice is always Gamakatsu.I'd like to see more carried in store instead of the BPS branded stuff that bends/breaks. If I ever find a good source locally, I won't be buying from BPS.

I have used Gamakatsu hooks for over 25 years. I am very pleased with them and how these new octopus hooks work with fish. They hook the fish in the side of the mouth. Easy to remove and very little damage to the fish.

Super sharp hook. Perfect for hooking fiddler crabs on. Gamakatsu is now putting the 25 count hooks in a smaller 2.5 inch by 3 inch plastic packet that takes up less room in a tackle tray or your tackle bag or in your pocket. 30 lb. test flouro leader will easily go thru the hook eye.
These are the best hooks for ultralight fishing. I mainly fish small streams where small fish are comman place. Won't fish any other hooks. Very pleased with my results.
First this hook comes in that Japanese hook size. It is different from the sizes we are used to by being just a bit larger than the next size down in those sizes we are used to.I get there from Tackle Direct because I know of no other place which stocks the 9/0 that I use. Because of that size differential they are just a bit larger than the regularsize 8/0 that we are used to, but it gives me a wider gap that allows me to use the larger bait that I need. I use this size for heavy duty cat fishing in an aria where 40-60Lbcat fish are caught regularly and 90 is not unheard of. Some of the trot line fishermen here use 7/0 regular trot line hooks in SS.These hooks/w the 30 degree down bend in the eye allow for easy snelling to a leader. The points are needle sharp. ... MoreFirst this hook comes in that Japanese hook size. I love Gamakatsu! They are my GO TO! Quality control is outstanding! Engineering is outstanding! Material is top notch! I'm not a hard core- sharpen my hooks kind of guy- BUT I can tell you- these hooks stay sharp after a beating! They hold their form as well despite being abused and hooked on some monsters.
I use the hooks as trailer/stinger hooks on spey fly streamers. the offset hook poont is painfully sharp and has drawn blood several timed whilr tying the fly. Finally learned to place a small pencil eraser on the point to stop the bloodletting.
Had a pack of the equivalent of these in Eagle Claw Brand, tested them out so I could save these hooks for walleye on fishing opener. Had to immediately switch back to these right away. I never poked my fingers while tying on the Eagle claws but while tying these you have to be much more carful, poked myself a lot. That's a good thing! These are thinner and much sharper, definitely a much higher quality hook. Also they don't rust like the eagle claws. Worth the extra couple dollars.
Only buy them and owner hooks. You get what you pay for and if you want to lose a fish too cheap hooks, well Im sorry, but I dont. These are high quality hooks and they hold up well to chinook and sockeye salmon.
