I had never tried this paper and decided to give it a go. I was absolutely thrilled with it. I have printed both color and black and white photographs and the paper responds brilliantly to both. The weight of the paper gives it an impressive presence and the slight texture of the paper adds to the elegance of the finished print. Two very different photographs both printed on this wonderful paper and the results were more than I could have hoped for.

First time using this paper. Project involved making duplicates of original watercolor paintings for my customer. They were painted by her deceased mother. Several siblings will now have copies that virtually look like original water colors. The original paintings were copied with a NIKON D850 fitted with a 55mm f2.8 Micro Nikkor with polarizing filter and color reference included along side of paintings. Norman strobes with polarizing filters used for lighting. Prints made on an Epson P800. I've also printed some of my personal work on this paper with excellent results. I like the heavy weight, texture, matte finish and artistic look of the finished images. I'll be getting more when I run out.

I’ve been doing my own printing for many years and am so happy to have discovered this paper. I use it only for my best images for exhibition. It’s expensive and certainly not an every day paper. The texture is fairly subtle at about a 4’ viewing distance and can overwhelm small prints. I don’t imagine that you could go wrong by keeping a pack for your finest work. Also, for my character studies, I always make sure to be extra careful with output sharpening to avoid softening of my image.

Hahnemuhle's German Etching paper handles deep, dark colors and brings them to life. I have been purchasing rolls from B&H - which are immediately available. But if you wish to print on 24 x 36 without any margins - the pre-cut sheets are is the ideal platform. After careful alignment in the printer, everything comes out perfectly square.
I started buying this paper after a photographer friend sold me a print he had printed on this stock. I immediately fell in love with it. Just make sure you download the correct ICC profile for your paper and printer, and if you have a Mac, make sure you're not connecting through Bonjour because it messes up the ICC communication. I started printing over USB and I can't get over how beautiful these prints are.
I used to use this paper for all my color prints (for sale and for gallery framing), and I've had some stunning results. This paper is really nice and thick, and it's exceptionally good at showing nuances in the midtones. However, when there's a lot of blacks and dark colors, they don't always render deep enough for my taste.
I use German Etching in several sheet sizes and 17 inch rolls for my color photographic prints, mainly bird portraits and occasional landscapes. Rendition of colors is great, and capture of detail is surprisingly good for a paper meant to emulate water color paper. I recently switched from Hahnemuhle William Turner paper because German etching doesn't have a flake-prone granular surface like WT. Viewers often mistake the prints for paintings, I process in Adobe Lightroom and print on a Canon Pro 2000 printer.
I normally print on Hahnemuhle Photo Rag with occasional excursions with Museum Etching, both fine papers with different looks. I decided to try German Etching and am glad I did. I print exclusively monochrome using a seven varied black tone ink set. The German Etching received these inks beautifully with smooth tonal gradations and a nice pop to the prints. It may just become my standard, go to paper.
This cotton rag paper is the top shelve of cotton papers.Heavy textured and thickness you can feel.Works best with originals that were watercolor painted, but also can be used with digital designs. The only con is the tension that it takes to roll this paper on the tube leave it curled with the finished print. You will have to de roll it and use a deroller that is 3 inches in diameter or wider.
I am a fine art photographer and produce my prints for sale through galleries. I have been a long time user of Hahnemuhle papers, in particular German Etching for its beautiful matte surface and the way in which it renders deep blacks and color contrast. I believe that once you find what works for you as an artist, stick with it! The quality of Hahnemuhle printing papers has not changed over time. I know I can depend on the product and that is reassuring.
