Hoka Clifton 9 GTX - Size 10.5

Choose the HOKA Clifton 9 GTX and experience the perfect combination of comfort and performance while running with this neutral all-round running shoe. This shoe can handle any pace you run, whether it's a moderate 5K run or a long run. Get the most out of every step with this all-round running shoe! Midsole To make your runs comfortable, HOKA has added a CMEVA midsole that provides plenty of cushioning and effective protection while running. By placing the transition zone behind the metatarsals, the Early Stage Meta-Rocker geometry contributes to a quick transition of the feet. This ensures a smoother stride and a faster transition to the forefoot, resulting in an explosive feeling. Upper The upper of the Clifton GTX is made of mesh for good breathability and the shoe is waterproof thanks to Gore-Tex in the upper. The pleated tongue of this shoe is attached to the upper on both sides, so that no dirt can enter the shoe and the tongue remains centered. Wear sole The durable Durabrasion rubber outsole with a coarse profile provides excellent grip on any surface. Zones of abrasion-resistant rubber have been added to the heel and forefoot for extra durability. The geometry of the outsole is designed to ensure inherent stability and an efficient stride. The HOKA Clifton 9 GTX will help you achieve your goals!

I have a pair of the male version of the Clifton 9 GTX and they fit and feel great walking. While running the cushion is true to description as well. These were so good for me I recommend them to my wife but they do not have the GYX blue color in wide foot which was a bit of bummer. I personally give them a 5 star rating but my wife had a totally different experience with the non GTX Clifton 9 exchange we did for the wide foot version. Not even a quarter mile into our walk/jog her right foot got a tremendous amount of pain shooting from the back of her toes all the way to the heel. So unfortunate. I had to go back home while she waited at a bus stop for me to go get her in car.

Much like my original Clifton 9 but pleasantly warmer

I needed some warmer (and drier) running shoes and although I have had a pair of the Challenger GTXs, I wanted an everyday street running shoe, esp one with much cushion. Since I'm a big fan of the Clifton series (won over from the Bondis, even) I thought I'd give these a go. Glad I did. Wore them on a cooler day and was pleased with the warmer run, the more cushy sole and the extra lift I got from this shoe. Am now looking forward to a few more seriously cold days to give them a better test, though I'm certain they'll pass with flying colors. Oh yeah... love the bright blue color. Although I bought them for running, they'll get plenty more miles down the road when I repurpose them as walkers (as I do with my better quality/comfort running shoes).

I did a lot of research before making my first purchase. I recently have had to make a switch to road running when the majority of my life I have been a trail runner. If I don't have the option to run on a trail, these shoes will be my go to for the road. Light and fluffy are the only things that I can think of in terms of this experience. The roads are hard and heavy - these shoes make the roads feel like clouds. Most importantly, I don't hurt everywhere after my run like I have experienced with other traditional running shoes. My first experience was magical and I will likely purchase the colorful pair once I run the black ones into the ground.

Not the same
10 January 2024

I LOVE my Clifton 9s. The support and comfort are amazing. The new Clinton's with gorex, does not have the same support nor is the tongue the same. They also feel bigger than my originals. I wore them around the house first, then for a 3 mile walk on mixed terrain. They definitely do not have the same support system inside. This is a big disappointment as I waited for quite some time to get them in my size. My every day walk is mixed terrain with the first part being muddy when wet, sandy when dry, then on to asphalt. Huge reason for wanting the shoe with the wet time of year being here. I will try them again for a few days and go from there. Currently, highly disappointed, even the tongue is different.

I wasn't sure about keeping this shoe at first. The toe box seemed too low on one shoe and was rubbing my big toe. I solved that by stuffing the toe box with a wash cloth for a few days which stretched it out enough. I usually wear Biondi 7s and this shoe is much stiffer. I wore them around the house for a few days then did some outdoor walks with them. They are now comfortable and I don't think about them when they are on my feet and I wear them all day. Bought them for a spring trip to Alaska and I am expecting some wet conditions. I got them in the blue color which I love and have gotten a few compliments on the color. I am glad I was patient and took the time to break them in as I really wanted this shoe to work. I also took out the factory inserts and put in Power Step inserts - all good! I need a wide toe box bc of bunions. Keeping these shoes!

Terrible new "upgrade" to the Clifton shoe
12 December 2023

I love the Clifton 8 shoes, they are so comfortable and so supportive. I'm disappointed Hoka made changes to the fit of the 9. I went into the Hoka store to get some advice, and the guys working there told me that a lot of people try on the 9s and are disappointed. The toe box is wider so it feels too loose up there, and something about the ankle design made my ankle slightly slip out, but when I tried the smaller size it was too short and my toes hit the front. And then especially trying the goretex, it's even worse! The shoe is incredibly stiff, it feels like hard plastic. When I tied the laces tight enough to not slip out, it was super painful on the sides and tops of my feet. Just overall I don't know how anyone can run in these. I hope they go back to the ... MoreI love the Clifton 8 shoes, they are so comfortable and so supportive. I'm disappointed Hoka made changes to the fit of the 9. Thanks to Hoka

About 3 years ago I stopped fitting into new sneakers. My right foot kept hitting the front of the shoe. I've had bunion surgery many years ago. I had to send back brand new Columbias, Merrells, Orthofeet, and others. I did my own research and found my measurements were slightly over the 9.5 inches these shoes had. So Hoka had an excellent recommendation for how to measure my foot. I also saw their shoe length went from 9.5 to 9.64 inches, for my size, 8. Tried and yes they now fit! Ty Hoka!

Very Disappointed, Great Colour, Worse Feel
15 October 2024

I was so excited to get these. I have the original non GTX Clifton 9's but wanted to get a black pair for work. When I saw this I thought it was the best of both worlds as I work outside a lot as well. Once arrived and tried on it didn't feel nearly as comfortable as I remember my ones being.I tried my Clifton's on and yep, 100% different feeling. Hoka claim that it's the same support system and base, only changes being to the upper for the gortex but they just have done something because it significantly worse and more uncomfortable than the OG's.I'm actually surprised they released them this way, at the very least they should have created a "new shoe line" and called it something different because these are not Clifton's. Don't Hoka employees try their shoes ... MoreI was so excited to get these. I have the original non GTX Clifton 9's but wanted to get a black pair for work. Don't Hoka employees try their shoes on and compare them to the models they're based off before releasing?I also noticed that the shoe felt slightly smaller despite being the same size. It's minuscule enough that I could have gotten away with it if they felt right but at that point it just added to how much they're not true Clifton's. Length wise it was fine and the same but I noticed that the toe room was definitely lower causing the fabric to rub on and hit my toes when walking. Now, I even put my better soles from my Clifton's into the GTX shoes and it did improve it but still had the same underlying wrongness. I even put the hoka factory soles back into my original Clifton's and they still felt better than the GTX ones that had my custom soles. Not comparing to the original Clifton's model, this shoe isn't actually uncomfortable and I'm sure it's still good support for your feet but if you're after a GTX runner shoe specifically there's definitely better ones out there. If you're just after a running shoe, grab the OG Clifton 9's.Just a shame, I love the rainbow sole colour and the practicality behind the GTX.

couldn't get past the Frankenstein
10 October 2024

This pair was my first of HOKAs. I used to buy 3-4 pairs of *another brand* for years and they quit working for me (customer service/size consistency and then, foot pain). I have a variety of foot issues from working out for many years and the latest is a neuroma in the ball of my left foot. I'd been working out in these for a few months now and they alleviated my foot pain. Everything i've been hearing about HOKA is true. But, this shoe with it's square toe and high profile makes me feel like Frankenstein (or worse, Herman Munster!). The good news is that i've now tried a couple of other HOKA styles and am happy with those, Yay! (thumbs up on the Stinson, and for a lighter shoe the Mach 6 is working for me too)

I never dreamed I'd be writing a negative review for Hoka. I've loved every shoe I've purchased until now. I bought the Clifton 9 GTX in November in preparation for wet, winter runs. When I first put them on my feet I noticed they didn't have the same cushion as the Challenger. Still trusting that a Hoka would never let me down I gave them a try. After a couple weeks I was having trouble with pain from pressure on the outside of one ankle. I tried loosening the lacing and even not lacing the top two eyelets, which helped a bit but reduced stability a lot. Then, within one month the tread under the heel of both shoes peeled up and tore off. I wish I could saw I we running incredible high milage but unfortunately, I had only been running 10 - 15 miles a week. I've ... MoreI never dreamed I'd be writing a negative review for Hoka.
