For reference, I've put about 4000 miles on various Hoka shoes. I say that because I'm not a newbie to Hoka. I've ran in almost every Clifton that they have produced. The Hoka Clifton 9 is the best version so far. This shoe has been modified for the better and I couldn't be happier. They increased the stack height of and upgraded the mid foam and yet still managed to reduce the weight of the shoe. That is very impressive for sure. They upgraded the upper with an Engineered knit material and increase the breathability of the shoe. Next, the increased the size of the tongue by making it bigger and more plushy. This really made the lock down on top of my foot feel great. The overall feel of the tongue reminded me of the Bondi 8s tongue. I loved my old Clifton 6's but the 8 was awful and I had hoped the 9 would be better. But sadly, these are not good, and I will move on to another brand because HOKA is not making as good a shoe as they used to. The Clifton 9 has a very uncomfortable shoehorn built into the back of the shoe. It also looks ridiculous when wearing the shoe because it sticks out so far in the back. For some reason the shoe just does not feel supportive or cushioned well enough and my metatarsals hurt after wearing them. I still have an old Clifton 6 that I bought a few years ago as an extra back up and I put them on, and they feel great. So HOKA Company perhaps you should go back to making shoes that built your loyal fan base because there are a lot of companies now making this type of ... MoreI loved my old Clifton 6's but the 8 was awful and I had hoped the 9 would be better. I use these for daily walks, purchased as a replacement for Asics running shoes. They are very comfortable and the mesh keeps my feet cool. I can maintain my stride without straining my feet or lower legs. The size is true with a good, tight fit for exercising. I find one feature unusual: the shoes pull my socks in up to the point where they (the socks) fit exactly right on my feet - I notice this every time I'm done and remove my shoes. I wouldn't comment on this other than because the pulling results in a bit of discomfort at the start of my activity. That aside, I've put 21miles on them already and they feel great.

I bought these from the Belconnen store hoping that they would be a slightly reworked Clifton 8 but they are a totally different shoe all together.Having now run 30k this week in them I am unfortunately already looking to replace them. The heel support feels strong but they are far wider at the front than the 8’s which leads to pivoting of the toes left and right over long distances. The sole is probably twice if not more spongy than the 8’s and unfortunately feels like marshmallows loosely strapped to your feet.At best I would say these are long distance pavement walking shoes and at work fashion shoes. I wouldn’t say these are anywhere near up to spec as runners.
As an older guy with wide feet it's always a challenge for me to find comfortable lightweight shoes that will help make jogging for fitness tolerable. These shoes are just the ticket to replace my Clifton 8s that have started to show their wear. The soles are a little thicker than I prefer but they work just fine. I do appreciate the lack of any stiff logo or striping at the mid-foot which allows my extra wide feet to stretch out the side walls a little bit. Other shoes I've tried have caused rather painful hot spots on the outside of my feet in that area.
I was not thrilled with the price but having a gift certificate I decided why not, my wife has been raving about Hoka shoes for years. My first 2 to 3 mile run was a bit disappointing. I thought these were supposed to be the Holy Grail of shoes but now that I am five runs in and over 25 miles including a very hilly 7 mile trail run I did, these shoes are excellent. At first I thought the ample cushioning was a bit too amorphous, it's there but it's almost too much or doesn't really help me run. And then I started landing on the forefoot more, especially on slight downhills and that's where the shoe really began to shine. The only drawback is shown in this picture if you zoom in - after the trail run I washed them as I usually would and it appears that I'm going to ... MoreI was not thrilled with the price but having a gift certificate I decided why not, my wife has been raving about Hoka shoes for years. The only drawback is shown in this picture if you zoom in - after the trail run I washed them as I usually would and it appears that I'm going to have to go back in for a deeper clean to get out the brownish orange dirt that is still embedded in the material. I only have myself to blame though for ordering this color. An excellent shoe for running and I'm sure for walking or a job that requires you to be on your feet all the time you're going to love this immediately without any break in time needed.
I'm a small business owner-operator and I walk 3 - 5 miles a day throughout our 6,000 Sq' facility. So that's a lot back and forth and too and fro!! The shoes are excellent, comfortable and supportive. They were reccommended by another HOKA owner. At 55 I'm an aging gym rat that's carrying an extra 25lbs...okay 35lbs during14hr days at the shop. My feet, legs and back were tired and exhausted. The Hoka shoes have put a little pep in my step. Now it's time to shed the extra lb's!
Iam a nurse who works 12 hour shifts and needed a comfortable and supportive shoe. Purchased pair clifton 9 two weeks ago. They have decent support which helped bottom of foot. However they are not soft and comfortable. They are very stiff and let me tell you they run small and narrow and purchased half soze larger than I normally wear. Typically shoes are big on my heel and upper foot but I need length. If your feet are wide at all these would not be for you. The shoes are rubbing too much against ankle and too of foot. Plus the toe is somewhat pointed leaving little room in the toe box. I am disappointed because I hear of many people who love their hokas. My husband too he wears the clufton 8. So clifton 9 was a mistake
I've owned the Clifton 8 shoes and absolutely loved them. I loved them so much that I ordered the Arahi 6 and the Gaviotas. I love all of them for different reason and for different activities.Once my Clifton 8's wore down I went to order another pair and saw there was a new edition - the Clifton 9, that made improvements to the Clifton 8.I ordered them and upon Receiving them was already not happy with the stiffer feel of the exterior material. Pretty disappointed with the width on these. I've worn regular width and wide width Hokas previously. I ordered the Clifton 9s in the wide width and was shocked to find them to be tight in the front half of the shoe. It's almost like they mid-marked regular width shoes as wides. I've tried on the regular width version in a different color and can't detect a difference. Unfortunately, I wore them for a couple of days to see if they just needed breaking in (would be new for Hokas in my experience) and now they are "used" and no longer eligible for return. Bummer.
