I like the grip on the outsole and while I agree that the exposed foam will likely break down a bit, I don't think it's going to significantly shorten the life of the boot. I like the heel counter and I find the boot easy to get on and off. There is too much material over the toes of the boot which causes some bunching when you lace them tight. The material is flexible enough that I haven't noticed this causing hot spots, it is just more of a poor aesthetic.2. The major concern that I have with this boot is the total lack of padding in the tongue. This combined with the round thin laces and the hard lace hooks at the top of the eyelet chain leads to a lot of pressure and discomfort on the front of your ankle, especially if you try and lace the boot tight. A good thick pair of socks helps some and you can play with the lace tightness to alleviate some of this. However, the tongue on this thing is simply way under-padded!I am going to try and replace the laces with a flat lace and see if this helps but I am not sure if these will work as well with the lace hooks. This tongue issue is so unfortunate because outside of this the boot would have been perfect.

Getting my Asolos re-soled. These are my backups. Tried HOKA Sky Kaha but switched to these Anacapas due to their narrower insole and heel cup. Still wide enough in the toe box but without the heel cup issue that caused my heel to rise out no matter how I tied the Kahas. These Anacapas are light, feel great out of the box and have enough cushioning for the 5-10 mile hikes they see often. Standard size 12 mens. Give my ankles enough support for heavier backpack days. Were waterproof as advertised in streams over the toe-box. We'll see how they last given other reviews for HOKA.

Since this is my first Hoka shoe, my review might not be good for long time users but I love this shoe. I tried on a bunch of this brand and other hiking boot/shoes and Hokas were the best. Other brands were good but with the cushion, style, waterproof, and durability of these they seemed like the best option for me. I've put about 20 miles of hiking through mud, water and other lots of rocks and trees and these are great. I was worried about some other models having thin fabric around the toe box but these have a more durable material that I don't worry another tearing when going over rocks and trees. The only thing to note: don't tie them super tight the first time you wear them. Do it a little loose and go from there on how tight you want to wear them. Good but could be better.

First off. These are super comfortable. I wear these for work and I on my feet all day. On concrete and in a forest setting. The soles are a lot more substantial and can tell they are gonna work well for me. But these could be improved on. First off. They need to go with a flat or thicker style lace. The near wire strings on the shoe hurt like crazy when you try to tighten them. If the tongue piece had more padding the laces could work. But between the thin tongue and the lace, it's a bit torturous locking into these first thing. Second. Not sure if the weight would be significantly increased. But get rid of the plastic lace pieces on the upper. Again these laces in combination with these plastic pieces don't allow for a good tightening of the boots. If they had a ... MoreFirst off. Overall a good shoe which I will more than likely order again. These are a great combination of lightweight and durability. Some improvements in the areas mentioned and these a five star product!!

Just what the doctor (podiatrist) ordered
14 June 2023

The bone at the outside bottom of my right foot just before the ankle became inflamed, and all work boots I normally wear to do yard and other work just made the issue worse. My podiatrist told me that I had to stop wearing my usual boots for at least six months to allow the inflammation to subside. She recommended shoes/boots with soft uppers for the time being. I have owned Hoka running shoes for years, but never its boots. I ordered this boot one-half size larger than my usual size and replaced the stock insole with a custom orthodic. I have worn these boots for all outdoor activity for about three weeks now and I am amazed how comfortable they are. And though not wide, there is absolutely no pressure from the uppers on the offending bone. Being on sale may be suggestive that Hoka is discontinuing this model, so I purchased two more pairs in different colors just in case. These boots should easily last me until my foot completely heals, and well beyond. I might even hike in them.

Meh
14 April 2023

I have had a pair of Hoka hikers (M TOR mid Summits) for many years. With the exception of my Hoka running shoes, they are the most comfortable things I can put on my feet.Well, after many years of hard use, I finally had to retire them. I of course ordered a new pair of Hokas to replace them- Kaha GTXs. First thing I noticed when I received them is that they weren't nearly as comfortable as my old boots, and they also had a significantly different fit- much taller foot box, leaving more room above my instep at the expense of that great 'cradling' feeling of my old boots. Well, I figured I'd wear them for a while and they'd eventually come around. After a couple of months, I finally decided that I really missed the comfort of my old boots and so decided to buy a ... MoreI have had a pair of Hoka hikers (M TOR mid Summits) for many years. So I called Hoka's customer service line to ask for a recommendation based on the model of my original boots. The very delightful rep recommended that the Anacapa mid GTX would probably be the closest thing in the current line, so I ordered a pair.Unfortunately, same result. While they're decent boots, the fit and feel is very much like the Anacapas and still nothing like my good old pair. Fortunately, this time the CS rep told me about the 30-day guarantee, so back they went.

Most Comfortable Hiking Boot I've Ever Tried...
9 March 2023

Bought these when they were on sale recently for half price. Have used them twice for snowshoeing in about 6" of new wet snow. Fit is just what I've come to expect from Hoka: true to size and comfortable all around right out of the box. Being a Gore Tex boot, my feet stayed dry in wet snow. There is a well padded notch to accommodate your Achilles tendon without irritation. The outcome has an aggressive tread pattern featuring Vibram carbon rubber that should provide great traction and wear. The laces are heavy duty and the upper 3 sets of eyelets are heavy duty plastic. Unlike conventional hiking boots, these provide a good deal of flexibility and don't require much in the way of a break in period. Plus, it looks great and is available in a wide range of colors. I highly recommend them for day hiking as well as snowshoeing...

Not Durable
6 May 2023

I'm a big fan of my Hoka shoes for walking and normal motion, so I thought I'd give these a try for hiking. I do wilderness search & rescue and often carry a pack in excess of 50 pounds, so the additional surface area and cushioning was also appealing. Overall, I really enjoyed them for the first few uses. I eventually found the need for inserts to give some more support, but even with those, I find my feet over-pronating since the sole is a little too cushiony. One other big drawback I've noticed is that although the waterproofing on the exterior is great, they have absolutely zero traction when they get even slightly wet (I still have the hip injury to prove it). Last, overall, I'm very disappointed in the durability. I am the owner/operator of Olympus Kennels in Paragould, Arkansas. I walk miles every day training dogs as well as cleaning out the kennels. My shoes get wet several times a day. I only get about 2 to 3 months out of Salamon's or Keen's, they simply come apart. These Hoka's have held up by far the best of any shoe I have ever worn at the kennel. They are comfortable, have good traction, and keep my feet dry. I am on my second pair now and have worn them both during winter and summer months. The only negative is the shoestring eyelets, they have very aggressive stippling on the inside to hold the shoestrings in place, but they chew the shoestrings up and cause them to come apart much too soon. I bought these for my boyfriend for Christmas. He was in a horrible work accident on May 18th, 2021. He fell from a deck 15 ft straight down onto concrete. He broke both ankles, shattered his right heel and broke both Calcaneus bones. He was bedridden for 3 months and the surgeon said he'd never be the same. That he'd be stuck behind a desk to work for the rest of his life. They were right that things will never be the same for him, but they were wrong about his limitations. Hokas are the ONLY shoes he buys and can walk normally in! The only shoes he doesn't hurt in! (Since he literally blasted his feet pads off).
