Ok, so at first I thought it was only me that had this problem, but then I looked at the reviews and saw someone else too. I tried on these at WA & CA rei stores. Both had the waterproof lining loose, which creates a wierd gap and hits in the top / middle of my toes when walking. Tried to find another pair that wasn’t like that, but was worried that it could come loose overtime.

This is my 4th pair of HOKA’S and my first GORE-TEX hiker. I have a size 11 foot and these seem to fit my long narrow foot. As these shoes are quite large to look at due to their design (the same bulky look for smaller feet), they are made for comfort and seem to be the answer for problem feet. These shoes do not have the usual wide toe bed as many other designs do and the toe cushion is minimal, so you may want to consider that in your sizing options. Still, they are deserving of 5 stars, you just need to get accustomed to their bulky design.

For years, I only wore Salomons for hiking until I found Hokas. I have the Speedgoat 4 (not gortex) and they’re the most comfortable shoes I’ve ever worn. My legs are definitely less tired after a long hike on single track trails. I just picked up the Speedgoat 5 GTX and they are noticeably less cushioned than the 4. I will just go back to another pair of those.

Love Hoka Speedgoats. They are comfortable, supportive, look great and have amazing traction on a multitude of surfaces. They look less boxy then some of the other Hoka styles which I really like. I love the Hoka Speedgoats so much that I got a second pair in s different color.
This is probably the most comfortable shoes I've ever owned. It is very well crafted and supports my high arches like few shoes can. The shoes were a little narrow for my wide feet, but I used shoe stretchers and they are perfect now. They are very sturdy but are comfy and do not give me any blisters even upon the first wear. Amazing shoes, will never buy another brand!
After a great year in Speedgoat 4 GTX's I purchased the 5's for a Spring backpack trip. Hoka has changed the model which means a narrower foot bed and less durable tread. The narrow foot bed caused me to get two toe blisters, which I have never had. And the tread wore out after 120 miles. I have pictures of the 4 vs 5 tread, after over a year and 300 miles compared with the new ones. I'm returning these and hoping to find a pair of the SG4GTX.
I really like the fit on the left foot, but the right shoe is like a different shoe. No, I do not ahve two different size feet, I've had these feet for 60 years and I would know by now. :) The right shoe is so so narrow my toes go numb yet painful within minutes of wearing and no matter how I tie then, my heel slips and I have to tape excessively to avoid blisters. The base is solid and well cushioned, my left foot loves these, my right foots say heck no. I am going to order another pain and hope it is just a manufacturing fluke. Alas, they are not available in a wide, or I would try that and just tighten down the left foot, the left shoe is that comfortable.
The durability of the SG5 GTX just makes the run more enjoyable. I have a foot that's sustained 6 surgeries over time. Needless to say I have issues finding a shoe that can accommodate. I like the weight of the shoe both on the trail & street. I'm so glad this shoe is still available - I've tried other Hoka's & nothing comes close.
This shoe was well made. Unfortunately, it didn't have enough stability for my feet. Thankfully, Hoka allows you to actually try the shoe in real life. I took several hikes in this shoe and found on the trail they didn't have enough stability for my feet. I really wanted to make this shoe work for me but started having knee and foot pain after my hikes. I had to return them. I will have to wait for one of the more stable hiking shoes to come available.
Why do manufacturers change the design of good products! My Goatspeed 4 GTX shoes were great. But a design change for the 5 causes the shoe to rub on my ankle and they were returned. I have worn Hokas for years after a ligament tear in my foot and the my preferred Hoka shoe was the Tor Summit which was discontinued ( unless you buy the Bodega Tor Ultra Lo for $250.00). Heavy sigh, why can't they just leave well enough alone.
