If you like Arcade style racing games, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised with this one. There hasn't been too many good Arcade Racers on Xbox recently. Cruisn' Blast recently released for Switch is Excellent, but my Xbox was feeling a little left out in the Arcade Racing Category. Enter Hot Wheels Unleashed.....Pros- Graphics are Excellent, Framerate is Excellent, Cars actually look like hot wheels (pretty cool).- Lots of Hot Wheels Cars to Unlock, Customizable Cars Options are Robust & There's a Crib/Apartment Unlockables available too.- Racing, Drifting, Boosting are all a lot of fun (There is a learning curve, Unlocking & Upgrading Cars is a necessity to win later races)- The tracks are all awesome Hot Wheels inspired tracks, there's lots of shortcuts ... MoreIf you like Arcade style racing games, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised with this one. This was a bit disappointing because the game could use the extra content out of the gate.- Missing jumps in certain areas can you leave you high & dry. Missing jumps is killer if you play on Normal difficulty or above. Although I love the design of the tracks, they can be obnoxious at times. If you miss a jump, you'll most likely have to tap the Y button to respawn on the race track. This mechanic is pretty standard in most racing games, but if you miss a jump in this game it's almost automatic that you are going to have to restart the race. Missing jumps is often very costly & can be frustrating at times.- This game is probably a few updates away from realizing it's full potentialAs far as Arcade Racing Style Games go on the Xbox, I'd have to say that this is one of the better ones. It's not Forza Horizon, it's not Cruisn' Blast, but it definitely carves out it's own unique place somewhere in between in the Arcade Racing Genre.

From Milestone, the Italian creator of the Screamer series and the more recent Ride motorbike games comes this fun, heavily licensed game.Don't be fooled by the toy car aesthetic, this is an arcade racer with accessible but deep gameplay, rewarding practice with giddying performance. The developer's decision to fully embrace the Hot Wheels reality and keep everything to scale really gives this game a Micro Machines vibe and makes it stand out from its peers. For a game with such tiny cars, it's surprising then that draw distance is so important. The track design is amazing as it snakes around, over and under everyday objects and you can see curves, loops and chicane off in the distance. The photo editor is fun to play with too, as can be seen by my attached ... MoreFrom Milestone, the Italian creator of the Screamer series and the more recent Ride motorbike games comes this fun, heavily licensed game.Don't be fooled by the toy car aesthetic, this is an arcade racer with accessible but deep gameplay, rewarding practice with giddying performance. This game is fun. The moment Snoopy on his doghouse passed me on my left, I thought this is cool as heck - I'm racing against the World War I Flying Ace. For the gameplay, one neat quirk is that when you are airborne (and trust me, you will be) you can actually control the way the nose of your car is pointed. Most racing games, when you leave the ground, you fly through the air with no control like you would in the real world. In this one, you can control if land with your nose down, chassis flat, or nose up. I highly recommend this game as one to add to your variety of racing games.

First off, the game looks amazing, the tracks look great and the cars are absolutely incredible. The environment is pretty immersive. The controls are simple enough and straightforward for a driving game. Now to the bad parts in my opinion. The game crashes, a lot. This happens mainly when you are trying to save a car livery, or download one. The game will just freeze and go back to the Xbox One home screen. The game play is fun for the first few races and then it is terribly repetitive, racing the same tracks over and over just to progress the nonexistent storyline is boring. The track editor is a nice function but you have to win races to earn parts to use on the track. The livery editor is clunky and very difficult to use. I was really hoping for more than just an arcade racing game with Hot Wheels cars, stunt challenges, crash challenges, anything than just the same tracks over and over again would be a vast improvement. I really wish I would have waited on this game to go on sale and not spent the money I did to get it early.
Okay, quick question. Who here enjoyed racing their Hot Wheels cars throughout their living room as a kid? Don't worry, I figure we all did. This game is essentially the same thing with your favorite cars. It is so much fun. It instantly brought me back to childhood. I ended up getting my brothers and my nephews addicted to this game. Just a good arcade racer to really take you back to your childhood.
This is a great arcade racer with simple yet gripping gameplay parried with some really amazing graphics. The only real issue is how long it takes to accrue in-game gold to purchase loot boxes which can contain new cars (not a fan of this "surprise mechanic").Online multiplayer is great...when players are actually racing. Majority of players are afk/idle for hours. The reason for this is to slowly accrue gold while doing nothing but having the game on in the background. The game has a track-builder and livery/decal editor which are both highly customizable. It can take a bit of time to get used to the iconography when editing the decals and it may feel a bit clunky at first but you'll eventually get the hang of it after completing your first track/livery.The DLC ... MoreThis is a great arcade racer with simple yet gripping gameplay parried with some really amazing graphics. The only real issue is how long it takes to accrue in-game gold to purchase loot boxes which can contain new cars (not a fan of this "surprise mechanic").Online multiplayer is great...when players are actually racing. So cool and funky game. Circuit racing and the graphics are surprisingly great! A lot of nostalgia for older people and younger kids would love all the different cars. Tracks can be made by yourself as well as decorating your own HOTWHEELS room. You can split screen as well as online play! Takes a little bit getting use to the driving mechanics but still fun. Each car has different stats and you can custom make your own livery. Definitely worth buying and for slightly better detailed graphics I would say to purchase on PS4/5 or similar platforms. That being said it runs without issues on switch.
I got this game for my grandsons and they love it! Both can play at the same time so there's no frustration of one having to wait for their turn unlike a lot of other games. The price was much less expensive on Walmart.com than other websites that I checked. I like everything that comes with this game. I highly recommend it! It's great for any age. It's easy enough for young children and super fun for older players, especially adults! It's worth every penny!!!
Is it filled with whimsical characters? - NoIs it a Driving sim? - No... but is it it fun - Definitely! To counter the 1 star review, buying this game for anyone under say 8 years old and leaving them to it will fail. You have to be prepared to play split-screen with your kid, like I did with my 6 yo grand-daughter, so they can get some buy-in into the game. The simplest track is indeed challenging but then even Mario Kart can be and to be honest, I bought the latest MK after both having hammered this game and playing it on the Wii and Wii U, and I found MK frustrating, so go figure?Set the AI to easy, and as with MK there is a "catch-up" mode but this will only become noticeable once you get used to the handling. I don't count myself as any form of decent racing gamer and it took me a good dozen races of the first circuit to get a feel for drifting etc. so if your kid just wants all the cars for no effort, then they either need educating about life, or steering away from this title :)The only cons of this title is that I feel that some of the season pass content comes from this habit of gaming companies to release additional items which - for the price - should be in the primary release. That said there is free stuff every now and then, and overall, the "season passes" represent good value if you can shell out the readies in one hit rather going than the micro-transaction route although the latter has its merits in terms of pocket-money affordability. Not that you need them but they add extra dimension.. I mean, who doesn't want to drive monster trucks?
What a fantastic game, stuffed full of extras to keep you playing, and one of the best uses of a license: toy, comic, or movie around. While there's typical met expectations of a marathon of races and online multiplayer, as well as quick races, it's all the extra stuff that sets it apart-Split screen 2player racing, which is so frequently overlooked, is SO appreciated! Instead, a rather large selection of stickers and up to 1000 layers allows you to completely make your fave HW *YOURS* and display it in your profile, as well as share and download others from the HWU community.- track editor. Create your own tracks to race on, including special track pieces found in actual HW play sets & completely unique pieces only able to be pulled off in a video game (web shooting spiders, magnetized tracks to go up walls and along ceilings, etc). Like the livery editor, you can share creations with the HWU community!-your own "basement" HWU is a typical racing game where you drive, drift, and shoot for the gold, only driven as the actual miniature 1:64 scale cars. Races take place in real world size locations that have set down a track. Among these locations is "your" basement, which you can customize in-depth as you unlock paints, materials, decorations, etc.-use of other licenses.
