Light reflected off surfaces becomes polarised which reduces contrast when viewed through a camera. Hoya Polarising filters allow the photographer to select which light rays enter the camera removing unwanted reflections off surfaces such as water, glass, even roof tiles. Light rays which are reflected by any surface become polarised and polarising filters are used to select which light rays enter your camara lens. PL (Linear Polarising) and PL-CIR (Circular Polarising) filters have the same effect, but it is important that you choose the correct version for your camera. They allow you to remove unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water, glass etc. They also enable colors to become more saturated and appear clearer, with better contrast. This effect is often used to increase the contrast and saturation in blue skies and white clouds. HOYA's polarising filters do not affect the overall color balance of a shot. Color and contrast enhancement Light rays which are reflected by any surface can become polarised so polarising filters are used to select which light rays enter your camera lens. CIRCULAR PL filters allow you to remove unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water, glass etc. They also enable colors to become more saturated and appear clearer with better contrast. This effect is often used to increase the contrast and saturation in blue skies and white clouds. HOYA's polarising filters do not affect the overall color balance of a shot. Reduce Glare and Reflections with the CIRCULAR PL Using the CIRCULAR PL filter, reflections and glare can be reduced significantly from non-metallic surfaces. A camera angle of 30 degrees from the reflecting surface (glass, water, etc.) is ideal for maximum effect.

A (circular) polariser filter is a must for enthusiastic and serious photographers alike. Simply put, there is no other type of filter that offers so much for so little money. From simply protecting your lens, to reducing unwanted reflexions from non-metallic surfaces (glass, water, ice, snow), this is the filter of choice. Also, ideal for richer, more saturated colours, especially the blues of the sky and the greens of vegetation.I used this filter together with my Canon 450D and a Sigma 17-70mm/2.8-4 lens and it performs very well.

Bought this in Aug 2007.Had good results from the filter. But the front andback of the polarizing filter separated in May 2009.This was made by Tokina, serial# 0-24066-01213-5.Very disappointed by the durability of the filter.

I have only had the chance to use this a couple of times but have been happy with the results. I have had another polarizer on a different lense for years and purchased this one to go on my new 28-135 zoom and think it gives just as good of an effect as my previous polarizer did. I use it for landscapes and it really helps with the saturation for my blues as well as my reds when shooting in southern Utah.

Must make sure that the threads are aligned when you put onto your lens. The filter fell off, but no harm done. Very sturdy.
This filter works well for all landscape pictures where bright sun is an issue. The reduction of reflection along with the depth of colour are remarkable. A must have filter.
better blue and contrast intensity control than my other circular polarizer.
As a new user to DSLR this filter has become a necessary carry along. This filter performs very well (eliminates reflections and enhances colors)and is well constructed.
Just purchased this polarizer to take to Colorado for a couple of weeks and it worked GREAT! Landscape photography is what I used it for mostly and got great color with sky and clouds, and mountain views!
I did not find a quality lens cheaper. It is easy to use but it's application is not for all uses. It will darken the picture, but of course if you intend to photoshop everything that is not all bad either.
I got this for my 18-200 vr and it works great. I like to shoot a lot at a local lake and it really helps with the glare from the water. Also helps my landscape shots in general.[...]
