They fit great and wear comfortable right out of the box. The construction seems solid and is aesthetically pleasing. The one thing that concerns me is the fabric eyelets. I hike through some pretty tough terrain need my boots tight enough to protect my feet on loose and uneven surfaces and while cinching the laces tight I look at the fabric laces pulling against the fabric eyelets and wonder how long I have before they wear out. The boots are a really good pair for hiking. I found that to be very comfortable while hiking .Some points I wanted to call out :- The shoes weight ain’t too much and comfortable to wear right out the box- The rubber toe is very effective , has a lot of space and protects yours toe from any damage-The lacing system allows for a wide variety of fits in a singe shoe and is very sturdy.-The shoes are almost water proof, breathable and have a very good feel-The shoes have very decent arch support .-The shoes thread is very aggressive and makes it very effective during hiking in any terrainSo far I am very impressed with the material and design and I am really looking forward to more hikes soon

Great shoes, great service

This shoe had good reviews elsewhere, and I'm really happy I got them.First of all, Mountain Designs service and prompt delivery were ridiculously good. In fact great. I had these boots on my feet within a couple of days of ordering them online.I will go to the negatives which are; the top open eyelet is quite small and will wear the lace out, the toe area is a bit too broad which means the fit will not be snug and the arch support is a bit underdone - but these are just the negatives. The positives is that this is still a very comfy shoe, very stylish and breathable while also being water resistant. I understand the sole is stitched rather than glued which has got to be a good thing for its longetivity.I wore these for the first time, and road tested them at ... MoreThis shoe had good reviews elsewhere, and I'm really happy I got them.First of all, Mountain Designs service and prompt delivery were ridiculously good. I really like these shoes. They’re roomy, comfortable, and currently have been working great for working outdoors in wet weather. I haven’t had a chance to test these on a long hike yet but I have high hopes as I haven’t noticed any friction points. The overall fit of the shoe was slightly larger than I expected and the toe box was wider than most shoes I’ve ever owned; it confused me at first and almost started a return but after giving it a shot I ended up liking it. Time will tell. I plan on picking up another pair a half size down from my typical size to experiment because I think that might end up being the perfect size for me, but the size I got doesn’t feel bad. A thick pair of hiking socks might make it perfectly sized. Some things to note, the traction felt ... MoreI really like these shoes. Keen Quality but Not the Best for Hiking
28 April 2024

I have the Targhee III hiking boots I bought from REI. They're are well made and comfortable.Sadly, they're not the best for hiking on slippery trails when descending. I wound up slipping while descending on a trail and injuring my knee. The trail had pea gravel embedded into the dirt, and the nearby creek made the gravel a little slick.I believe the reason the boots allowed my feet to slide out from underneath me is that there isn't really any deep tread on the heels; they're basically smooth on the heels. With no tread on the heels to dig into the trail going downhill, there's nothing to keep the boot anchored to the trail. Unfortunately, the Targhee IV suffers from the same heel design flaw.

This is my first Targhee lace up and it feels good so far. I replaced my Cabelas Perfect Hiker (by Meindl) which I dearly love but since I am no longer in the Rockies, I felt I could lighten up my boots. I have worn Keen shoes over the years and always had good luck with them and I have about two years on a Targhee III Chelsea which is one of my favorites. From the box the boot is comfortable. It exhibits a little stiffness when first laced which is to be expected, and I believe there is a break-in period. As I have been wearing them in house, insuring they fit, my outdoor experience with the boot is nonexistent. However, I do believe they will become one of my favorites.Fit: The toe box is roomy and large. I also believe there should be another eyelet on the top , although this could be more of a personal prefernce than a real need.Due to this being a waterproof boot, the tongue should be gusseted higher at least to the second eyelet.I am looking forward to wearing this boot in the outdoors in its proper environment . Should there be any unusual problems encountered, I will update this review.

Quality hiking boots
3 January 2024

Thank you Influenster and Keen for sending my husband the Targhee IV hiking boots in exchange for our honest review. The boots arrived and I was super pleased with the quality of the boots. Quality footwear is important and you can tell that the Keen brand is quality. My husband is a size 12 medium and found the boots fit true to size with room in the footbed for comfort. He said that the boots although substantial, did not feel heavy on his feet. He liked how his body felt in them and he felt like he could wear them in comfort throughout a long day. He said he would wear them with jeans and not just for hiking. I appreciated that the boots are waterproof and made with recycled bottles. This is a non-incentivized review.

Unlike many of the reviewers here, I bought these boots with my own money and promptly returned them. This is a non-incentivized review. Why did i return them?1. Too hot! Within a few minutes of lacing the boots up and walking around indoors, my feet were sweating. I've worn other brands of waterproof boots, and have never experienced this problem before.2. Too big! I usually wear a size 10.5, these had enough room to wear multiple pairs of socks. I wouldn't recommend doing this though, as your feet will be very sweaty.3. Too high! The sole is too thick and the heal is too high, which makes for a wobbly feel. If you like feeling disconnected from the ground, this is the boot for you.The boots do seem to be well made, but design flaws and inaccurate sizing are ... MoreUnlike many of the reviewers here, I bought these boots with my own money and promptly returned them. Worth the cost

I never tried KEEN shoes before this pair, but I'm really glad I did. In fact, from now on I'll probably own a pair of these for as long as Keen and I both exist. These weren't my usual style of boot I purchase either, but I think they look really sharp. Comfortable right out of the box and feel perfectly broken in by the end of the second day of wear. I put in a few miles of hiking each weekend since I got them and they are absolutely my most comfortable hiking shoes I own. They are incredibly well made too. One thing i normally avoid on a shoe are the looped strap eyes for the laces, but after researching these shoes that doesn't seem to be a problem for anyone else, even people who have owned their shoes for several years still have all the eye loops intact.
