I got samples of this and the Hair Alchemy-line and I much prefer the shampoo and conditioner from Gold Lust. Compared to Hair Alchemy, this one felt more hydrating and nourishing for my long dry, and brittle hair. I liked that this shampoo felt very concentrated as I didn't need to take much for it to lather on my second wash. My hair felt clean but not stripped and I could go my regular 3-4 days before needing to wash again. However, at this price point, I expect my hair to feel soft and somewhat detangled already from the shampoo. Comparing it to other professional high-end haircare brands, that are slightly less expensive, this felt quite mediocre in both feeling and result. I'll admit I'm kind of scared by the 'no-poo' principle that's central to the Curly Girl philosophy (don't worry, it's not as scary as it sounds, but still - it's scary. Look it up).However, in this gentle JVN shampoo, I've found a great compromise, as it helps to promote curls while also allowing the hair to feel properly 'clean' on a day-to-day basis. Basically, it's allowed me to dip a toe into the Curly Girl methodology without going all in.The formula is silicone and sulphate free - v. important for curly girls, as these ingredients can weight down the hair and cause frizz, respectively.Being free from sulphates (the most well-known of these is Sodium Lauryl Sulfate - a common additive that helps produce a lather) does have an effect on the product's use. I last tried an SLS-free shampoo many years ago, and hated the fact it didn't lather at all, but it seems the more modern formulas, like this one, have come a long way since -- this product can actually produce a nice slippery lather, once you get the knack of applying it. It makes me feel like the ingredients are really getting into the shaft of the hair, without any silicones that can build up and block their way in. I also like the fact that this is full of mainly moisturising ingredients, as I tend to get 'protein overload', which results in inelasticity. Personally, I need lots of moisture to redress the balance. If your hair's the opposite and needs the protein, go for JVN's 'Undamage' strengthening formula instead.This is a perfect everyday shampoo. It's a gentle cleanse, so you'll want to use an SLS-based, clarifying/chelating shampoo every so often to cleanse the scalp. But alternating between this product and a SLS-rich shampoo is a great routine to promote your healthiest hair, rather than scorching it by using harsh, SLS-containing shampoos more regularly. I wash my hair around every three days with this JVN shampoo. And then use a clarifying shampoo approx. every 10-14 days.Less importantly (but still important) it has a really nice smell. It's not overpowering, and has a kind of gender-neutral profile. AND it comes in a pump bottle! ALL shampoos should come in a pump bottle, in my humble opinion...
