5”. It’s pricey, but it’s 100% worth having in your collection.

I ordered the 5”... thinking it would be plenty big for EDC and around the house. I scoffed at it. Thinking I can’t use this tiny thing. I took it to work and 2 coworkers recommended it would be worth keeping. I’m going to order the 7” and the 10” soon. But guess what? Today I couldn’t assemble a bench grinder. My 3/8 ratchet with socket was slightly too large to get over the bolt head in a very narrow spot. I don’t have any quarter inch sockets. This little Knipex 5” worked perfectly. The narrow jaws were perfect for the narrow heads of the bolds. The grip, wow. I can’t believe how much clampage you get with these. No slippage. I love how you can loosen your grip to rotate the wrench without taking it off the nut. I used these a lot at work and finally got a pair for myself. The use and abuse these stood up to was amazing. A few times we put three foot pieces of pipe on the handles to get added leverage. They functioned perfectly and the steel is incredibly strong. The parallel jaw motion, adjustable range of opening, and strength makes them really versatile and I was always using them for something or another. In almost all cases they're better than using an open end wrench because they grip the entire flat of the bolt/nut, not just two corners. If using them on a stuck bolt/nut, turn them over so that you're pushing/pulling on the handle moves the jaw. This adds to the clamping force. The knipex pliers wrench is a really useful tool. I'd been eyeing them for years but never bought them due to their exorbitant cost. This year I received them as a birthday gift. The Knipex Pliers Wrench are very much better than a conventional adjustable wrench in that they grip the fastener tighter as more torque is applied to the handle in one direction, exhibit a ratcheting action in the other, have a larger jaw capacity than a conventional adjustable wrench of the same length, and are lighter than similarly sized adjustable wrenches. The Knipex pliers wrench are also a decent pair of pliers. The smooth jaws grip surprisingly well thanks to the 10:1 compound leverage although this does make adjustments a bit fussy. This was made even worse by the availability of the much cheaper and similarly useful Knipex Cobra Pliers. The Cobra pliers are also better than a regular adjustable wrench. They have the same adjustment mechanism, range of adjustment, and also grip tighter with increasing torque one way and ratchet in the other. They WILL engrave aggressive teeth marks in whatever they're used on, although they can be used and adjusted so that this is minimised by making sure the toothed sections of the Cobra plier's jaws are close to parallel and engage opposite flats of a fastener.I still think the use of an adjustable wrench, pliers, or pliers wrench on a fastener is only acceptable due to the necessity of a task combined with the lack of a better option.I see the Knipex Pliers Wrench as a small incremental improvement of the Knipex Cobra Pliers. I would've bought them myself long ago had they only been a small increment more expensive. If you NEED a lightweight adjustable wrench that doesn't slip or mar fasteners then I'd say they're worth it. If not, the Cobra Pliers are less expensive and more versatile.

Faulty Chrome Plating
16 June 2019

I have the larger 10'' version of these wrench pliers and they’re fantastic. The 7'' (actually 7.087'') version is probably the smallest anyone should consider for serious duty/work use. The smaller versions are good for EDC, mechanical, or precision work - with the 5'' actually being offered in a small kit by Knipex. My experience with the 5''; however, was not excellent. A small portion of chrome plating flaked off a jaw after light pressure was applied. It might not seem like much, but it’s an indicator the overall coating might be of poor quality.Unfortunately for me, the item is far past the return date. I’ve notified Knipex customer service and eagerly await their response.Small openings in a tool coating are easily taken advantage of by corrosion; ... MoreI have the larger 10'' version of these wrench pliers and they’re fantastic. I’ve notified Knipex customer service and eagerly await their response.Small openings in a tool coating are easily taken advantage of by corrosion; especially where I live, an environment which is humid nearly year round. Of course, the quality of Knipex steel is great. The flaw may have been caused by a contaminate in the dipping mixture, beyond the control of the manufacture, but it’s a flaw nonetheless.

My biggest disappointment about these, is that i didn’t either come up with the idea for them myself a long time ago. My next greatest disappointment is that I only discovered these a few months ago. These pliers have changed the way i work. Mated with the straight model, I literally have witnessed my crescent, end, and socket wrenches gather dust. Now i also will be the first to admit that I am not a mechanic, and don’t use wrenches every day, but at the same time have a complete set of tools. The other benefit is instead of hauling pounds of wrenches around, i can typically just carry these. Likewise, all but the best crescent wrenches have travel/play in them. The other benefit is instead of hauling pounds of wrenches around, i can typically just carry these. Likewise, all but the best crescent wrenches have travel/play in them. It is frustrating when a common big box brand slides off because because there are a few millimeters of play in them. So if crescents are ineffective that forces you to carry metric and English sizes...all of this is inordinately frustrating. The knipex tools adjust and stay where you want them. what’s more since they are pliers your grip can close down to make contact if guessed too big. These offset pliers are truly a freak of nature since you can reach nuts/bolts squarely without being in line with them. I have a growing number of knipex tools, and i can safely say that none have disappointed. I wish they were less money, but i have to say buying huge lots of average tools is gets old. I am one of those people who has bought several 200, 300, and even 400 piece tools sets over the last 20 to 30 years. As a result my tool bag would be called a mutt because i have so many breads????. Over that same period i have strategically added more and more high end tools - and i find that i go to them - the tool kits are great for making sure you have all the possible sizes you need, but the great tools are the ones i reach for first.

Stout, precision German Tool. Highly recommended. In fact, buy two!

"You get what you pay for." And you certainly get it with this tool. Very handy for removing chrome shower heads or anything else that you don't want to scratch up with large adjustable pliers. As was pointed out in a 3 star review, this tool can be a little bulky in some situations, which is why I would recommend the purchase of the smaller pliers wrench as well. (I plan to eventually purchase the smaller one too.) You would never put a 12 inch adjustable wrench in your tool box without an 8 and/or 10 inch for smaller nuts, bolts, or fittings. One of the great features of this tool is its ability to replace or augment an open end wrench set. Many times I have reached for a wrench only to find that I don't have one large enough in the home tool box. Another feature is that you have SAE and Metric in your hand at the same time. Occasionally there is a need, especially when dealing with lock nut applications, for two wrenches of the same size. If you don't have two of the same size, use one open end wrench and put this on the other end. These pliers wrenches don't scratch finishes, hold more securely than adjustable wrenches, engage the flats instead of corners of bolts and fittings, can replace multiple open ended wrenches, and are very precisely and sturdily built. If I could, based on the performance of other quality tools, I would give these 6 stars. A little pricey, but well worth the money.

Too Much Attention Needed to Adjust the Jaws
15 January 2019

Unlike the blue handle pliers, you can't adjust these with one hand. The "Button Push" thing is very sensitive. Push it JUST ENOUGH and you can move the jaws. But push it too far and it's locked. Don't push it enough and it's locked. Very small sweet spot. Also unlike the blue handled pliers, it's essentially impossible to use these "backwards". You must have the handles oriented "That way" to get them to grip the nut flats. You literally can NOT hold the workpiece AND adjust the pliers at the same time.As for the very fine adjustment possible on the jaws, for me it's a hinderance rather than a help. With these Knipex, you have to be exactly on the right adjustment slot or it simply won't grip the flats. As for the "Exerts 10x the force in the jaws compared to hand pressure". That's probably true but I really don't look toward a pair of pliers to be a substitute for some kind of press or vise. I just don't have a need for the mega pressure.Bottom line, it seems a bit over-enginnered for no good reason. Back to the simpler Water Pumps for me. They're much quicker and more confidence inspiring than these rocket scientist engineered pliers. Thanks - Lumpy

Unsurpassed Knipex quality worth the cost!

These pliers wrench are excellent at what they do. The smooth jaws go a long way to minimizing damage to the fasteners your working on. The 10:1 mechanical advantage of this design is far superior to the standard adjustable wrench. Because you can rotate them during tightening/loosening, and don't have to keep taking them off the work, things go much faster and damage is further minimized. Good steel, good leverage and good cant of the head all contribute to this tools utility. Their slim profile fits in tighter spots too. The fit and finish of all the parts is excellent. Although the handles are fairly comfortable I still would have liked to see them offered with comfort grips like their smaller sizes have. Thats why I gave it 4 stars for ergonomics.A big plus is ... MoreThese pliers wrench are excellent at what they do. These plier/wrenches will last a lifetime and can be passed down to the next generation.

Work of art
13 June 2020

I've been slowly building a collection of Knipex pliers, starting with the 6" cobras, then long-nose, etc. These pliers-wrenches seem to be the most expensive that they make, so it took me a while to decide on ponying up the dough . . . and then I got them. These things are absolutely perfect; I was mesmerized fiddling around with them, seeing how all the parts move together in perfect harmony like a steel ballet. Then I remembered that it is a tool, so went on a mad rampage tightening random bolts and garden hoses. They put an 8" adjustable wrench to shame: faster, more accurate, fitting every fastener like a glove. Oh, and they have the same jaw capacity as said wrench (about 1 1/8"). i find myself going for these whenever an adjustable wrench or channel lock would normally have been the correct tool for the job. channel locks and the adjustable crescent, for me, were always somewhat ehhhh, inconvenient, or unpleasant to set to the accurate size for the work, slower to complete work, and potentially marring or otherwise damaging to the work, leaving unprofessional looking hardware in its wake.whats great about these is, theyre operable within a general range instead of having to thumb in the exact size or open, and hunt for the proper slot, and check fit, inevitably having to open and move up or down another slot, or having to re-slot the channel lock after it somehow slips full open or full closed or some other annoyance. with other tools, the ... Morei find myself going for these whenever an adjustable wrench or channel lock would normally have been the correct tool for the job. channel locks and the adjustable crescent, for me, were always somewhat ehhhh, inconvenient, or unpleasant to set to the accurate size for the work, slower to complete work, and potentially marring or otherwise damaging to the work, leaving unprofessional looking hardware in its wake.whats great about these is, theyre operable within a general range instead of having to thumb in the exact size or open, and hunt for the proper slot, and check fit, inevitably having to open and move up or down another slot, or having to re-slot the channel lock after it somehow slips full open or full closed or some other annoyance. with other tools, the time they waste, and damage they cause, drastically effect a working mans career from clients to supervisors.whats great about knipex's pliers, they stay set, flat jaws do not damage your hardware, and the parallel closing action and design of the handles make it so you dont have to squeeze the handle to grip the work, you can put your energy into twisting rather than squeezing, which in my opinion is great. using them is a joyfaster to use, less potential to ruin your work, energy costs and frustration factors nearly eliminated, all combine to give me that warm and fuzzy feeling whenever im using these babies. buy these. now. jst do it bros
