A miracle in a bottle. I never thought I’d be able to have cool colored hair, every time I tried to bleach I would get a copper mess that I was too lazy (and broke) to try and fix. But you can use Hicolor Hilights on dark hair and get incredible results. My hair was dyed black, and the cashier at Sally’s told me I would need a color eraser before I dyed. So I did that, then mixed 2 magenta with 2 red ( level 30 developer), and got this result. I was so happy, and it really wasn’t a lot of hassle or headache. I suggest using a conditioning treatment after, but you’re going to have a gorgeous hair color - I guarantee it! So worth it 🍓 Lasts about a month before needing a touch up, too! 🙃

Displeased

I am not one to trust negative reviews because sometimes its operator error. In this case I wish I did. I have ethnic 3c hair and the color did not process effectively. It advertises to lift multiple dimensions, however my ends were still dark brown. I chose this product because it did not require bleaching prior to use. Being that I am a licensed stylist I was able to go in AFTER using the Hi-Lift with bleaching cream to get close to the color desired without damaging my hair.I have used the product on a client and had similar results but wasn't sure if it was the client hair. Now that I have tested on my own hair I will not purchase again.

Fan of HiColor Line

I’ve been using the red color on my very very dark brown hair for over 5 years. I wanted to go back to my natural color without bleaching, so I purchased onyx black, mixed with 30 developer, mixed well then applied to my hair after not washing it for 3 days. Bits imperative that your hair is not fresh and clean. It’s ok if it has product!!! My hair had mousse and hairspray it in from day before, so I brush it out, parted my hair I to fours then applied and left on for 20-30 minutes. I have very long hair so I used 2 boxes, and 2.7 oz of 30 developer per box. Use a measuring cup that Sally’s sells, a plastic bowl for hair dye and a brush to apply. No need to cover your hair or foil it. Just apply into fours and it’s perfect!! Rinse with cool water not hot!! Great color, horrible reaction

This hair dye is amazing at keeping color, and does what it is supposed to, that is all the nice stuff I can say. This hair dye makes me break out in horrible itchy hives, I have been dealing with it for months now. I have scars from itching in my sleep, and I am scared to wear my hair up because of how bumpy and red my neck is. There is absolutely no warning, I am never buying from this brand again because of how horrible it was. My doctor said I was about to go into anaphylactic shock, just because of this hair dye. Buy at your own risk, but it contains PPD, a very harsh chemical that many are allergic to! Yet there is no warning! My hair is naturally VERY dark brown (with some tiny gray streaks I've had since my early 20's lol). The first time I used this, I didn't quite get the brightness I'd hoped for. The second time, my hair was MUCH redder and brighter... not quite as intenselyred as I was going for, but it was a beautiful shade of dark red that I enjoyed. Used correctly, your hair will be healthy and lovely once you find what works for you. IT DOES WORK BEAUTIFULLY AND IS VIBRANT FOR A LONG TIME!

This stuff is great and FYI TO EVERYONE WHO COMPLAINS HOW IT DOES NOT LAST LONG, it is because you MUST use a sulfate free shampoo and any other products you use on hair must be sulfate free if you want to extend the lifespan of your hair color when it’s red. Another trick is DO NOT USE HOT WATER on it, use lukewarm to cold. Just use the least amount of warm water that you can tolerate comfortably and your red will stay in so much longer. Heat and sulfate are your enemies with dyed red hair. Now I had dark brown hair and this product lifted me every single time and never is it splotchy or uneven. If your hair has virgin roots and the rest is dyed/processed already, then do not apply the red to the virgin roots until last. My advice is put the dye on roots in the last 10 minutes of coloring and then take a damp cloth and check roots to see if it has lifted to same level. You get the point. Or you can use 20 developer on roots and 30 or 40 developer on the rest of your hair, but wait and apply to the roots last, after you have done all other hair. This will require mixing two separate batches and buying two separate strength developers. I personally just use the method of same strength all around but not applying to my roots until the last 10 to 15 minutes. If your hair is not processed then just apply this all over in one swoop because you have nothing to worry about!! For me when I use this brand, It Always comes out beautifully. Can’t recommend this product enough for vibrant reds when your hair is dark. !!!!!

Love the copper shade

I have natural level 4 (dark brown) hair. I decided I wanted to go with a copper color and chose this L’Oréal one after looking at different options online. I personally love that I don’t have to pre lighten my hair, it makes the process easier and just one step! (This DOES have lightener in it!) I have not had major issues with the color fading / bleeding, but I do use a dark or old towel for a couple washes after dying. The copper shade is so beautiful! It’s a perfect deeper copper color without looking too orange or too light! This is the only hair color that I have repeatedly purchased and continually loved! (I used to use semi permanent and switch colors often). I have also tried the highlights copper version of this dye, which is more red than this copper. UTTERLY HORRIBLE

The sales assistant at Sally’s recommended me this because I wanted to go Ash blonde. I had platinum roots but the rest of my hair was still a little too yellow to be toned to platinum with a wella t18. So she recommended me this and said that it would give me a nice ash blonde look. SHE COULDNT HAVE BEEN MORE WRONG. It turned my platinum roots this ugly silver color. The rest of my hair was still yellow.My hair was breaking off and snapping in the shower even thought I only had the dye on for 30 minutes. I looked like I had been electric shocked. I had to go to a salon and get my hair fixed after this because it was ruined to a point of no return. I would give this zero stars if I could.

You all need to learn how to dye your hair properly
