This jacket is warm and cozy. Its a perfect over-layer for crisp days and keeps me warm with little under it. Its not windproof but does the job.My only complaint about this is that it sheds, causing it to look much older than it is. Ive had it for few weeks and it already looks like I have had it for years! I have several Patagonia fleeces that have held up in great, looking-new condition for many years. But this one looks raggedy and matted already after wearing it a few times a week for three weeks. Not sure if it is the fabric composition or what. I will probably keep it for the coziness factor, but disappointed in the look of it.

My Retro Pile Fleece Jacket is my favorite garment. It's also the second one I have bought in the last year.I live in Miami, Florida, famous for its great, principally warm, weather. But Miami had weather in the 50s last winter and the jacket was useful. Now that it is summer, I have dinner in a senior living facility. The temperature in the dining room is such that I have to wear my Patagonia jacket every evening. I spent my investment banking career principally in Europe, so tailored suits and custom-made shirts purchased in London were what I wore on a daily basis. Now, late in life, my wife thinks I'm the most elegant guy around with a jacket that costs 1/2 of what each shirt cost in London.I congratulate you for providing me comfort and elegance (according to ... MoreMy Retro Pile Fleece Jacket is my favorite garment. Overall I love this fleece. The fit is not what I expected though. I am usually between a S and M depending on the brand and I ordered this in S originally and it was much too short. I returned it and later got a M, which fits a little on the loose side, but still shorter than I'd expect. The fit reminds me of true vintage clothing that often has a similar type of fit. I quickly got used to it. And the look and material is so good that it made it easy to look past the length. It's warmer than I expected and is great on it's own or as a layer under a jacket. It's kind of expensive for what it is, but for that classic Patagonia fleece look I think it's worth it.

I have a few of these, and overall they’re a good addition in the fall/winter. These aren’t as warm as you’d expect, the wind cuts right through them, so I use mine mostly for shorter periods of time outdoors like walking the dog, or running errands etc., which is fine. My only real gripe is the fit, which is just kinda odd. These fit really narrow in the chest/shoulders but are also long if you size up; I almost thought I had purchased a woman’s at first. Wish they would widen the shoulders and stop some of the wind, but otherwise a solid fleece for much of the cooler weather months.
I really wanted to like this jacket. It was as warm and comfortable as expected. The fit was nice. I'm 6-4 240lbs with a formerly athletic build and XL fit me almost perfect with a base layer underneath.Unfortunately this jacket shed like crazy on everything. This was especially prevalent on anything nylon. Just for day-to-day wear it covered my seatbelt and my laptop bag strap with gray fuzz. I was pretty sure that if i were to wear it backpacking or similar I would have been left with no material anywhere in the vicinity of any straps.Product returned based on shedding.
I purchased this jacket in October 2021, and have gone back and forth on getting rid of it since initially getting it. I am 5-4, with a shorter torso and an athletic/curvy figure (little waist, quite some hips). This is arguably the highest quality but most unflattering jacket I have had, and I have had many fleece jackets. The jacket is built in a way where the arms are quite snug, but the torso/chest portion is too wide for it to fit well against your body. The armpits/shoulders do not quite line up, and the length is ridiculously long. The uncomfortable fit makes it really hard to wear this in any athletic atmosphere, as it is entirely too long to wear comfortably with a harness, and is also too odd fitting to comfortably have a backpack on. I think the jacket would be better and more short-person-friendly with the addition of a tighter-cinching hem, a more cropped length, and a more narrow torso. Sad considering the price!
About the wearer: ~5'11" and ~160 pounds with the beginnings of a spare tire.About the fleece:-cut shorter and wider than we liked; accentuated the spare tire in an unflattering way-collar had a wider spread than we liked; would have preferred a more stand-up collar-sleeves a bit long, although if everything else had been good, this wouldn't have been a deal breaker-fleece not quite as "cuddly teddy bear" as we were looking for...my fleece (from a different manufacturer) makes me feel like I'm wearing a hug and that's the vibe we were going forOverall, this seems like a quality piece, like almost everything from Patagonia; it just didn't work for us.
For the past several years Patagonia has gravitated to products that lack more traditional tailoring. Specifically, in the length and freedom of the body and sleeves. Models are always 6' X" and as slim as a rail. What about the rest of us (i.e. 5' X", more athletic build, etc.).I have several garments from Patagonia that were purchased over the last 20 years that are still in use and were designed with more freedom of movement. Recent purchases have been returned due to the inability to wear regular clothing and outerwear without feeling like I was being shrink-wrapped.I sent a letter to the president of Patagonia expressing the above comments - which elicited no reply. Your fit guide makes me feel like Goldilocks. I have to order/exchange/return several sizes before either finding something that fits or giving up altogether. It took me three (3) tries to get the Lost Canyon jacket right. Then I bought a Synchilla jacket on sale, but it was way too big and I returned it (smaller size unavailable). Based on the fit, of the Synchilla jacket, I bought this Retro Pile jacket one size smaller. Although it fit in the chest, the arms were too tight and it was too long and snug in the hips. It also seemed to be very cheaply made. I'm returning this one, too. You say that your size charts are customized for each jacket, but that really doesn't seem to be the case. For a while this was one of my favorite jackets, until I realized about 6 months in that it was slowly coming apart. The barrel cuffs in the sleeves unraveled first. The thin piece of material at the end near the wrists is so thin and the threading holding it on is just not strong enough to keep it from falling off completely. I think a thicker cuff with more durable stitching would've made these last longer.Aside from the minor design and stitching flaws, this is a really warm jacket. It looks heavy but it's very light. Breathes very well so even in mild weather you can wear it and not sweat too much wearing it. I also like the chest pocket, which is always handing for a wallet, phone or random items.Just wish it would've been built/designed a little better.
