Very nice and bold sound, great low and high tones. Great sound even on low volume. I use it with audio interface + guitar.

I have owned this set of studio monitors for quite some time now, so I’m very familiar with them. Overall, I would say that these are great studio monitors for someone who is looking for a good quality speaker at an affordable price. The sound is great and thematerials are decent. The sound knob does have a tendency to get loose in these models, but this does not affect the sound quality. I would recommend these monitors for anyone who is looking for a more professional sound, while not looking to spend a ton of money on higher end sound equipment. I think that they are a great set of budget monitors that can’t accomplish many things.

I've used these speakers for over 2 years now as my daily driving set of studio monitors, and they've served me well for production, mixing and basic mastering. If you are starting your recording journey and are looking for a pair to grow with, this is a great start. Beginners will be pleased with the ease of use and volume output. More intermediate users will appreciate the build quality over time, the options for speaker placement, and the consistent tone. These speakers on their own provide some of the clearest high and mid frequencies that's consistent and above all, balanced. These are excellent speakers. One thing to keep in mind about these monitors is that being only 5" the low end is noticeably lacking. These speakers on their own would need to be cranked to hear low end properly. If you are looking to mix low end at a reasonable level or mix bottom heavy music, I would strongly recommend adding the separate studio sub in addition to these speakers. After installing one myself, it has made a significant difference. Low end becomes far easier to hear and mix by extension with far less ear fatigue. What I like about the combination however is that the sub can be toggled on and off via footswitch (I use it often in the later stages of mixing for balance). However, if that's unreasonable, unaffordable, or unavailable for your studio, you may be more inclined to purchase the MR824 for a more pronounced low end.

I purchased a pair for mixing. These are very clear and precise. I look forward to using these more, as I have only had them a couple of weeks.
For video you'd be hard pressed to have better sound for two or more times the price. I only sit arm's length away from them, so they're quite punchy without being overwhelming. Great stereo field. Quite revealing too.
Purchased MR524 for studio. Good size, nice clear sound, look great and provides excellent reproduction. Just what I had hoped would be the case. Current big heavy speakers back to the shed!
Had considered first the Yamaha HS5 . I gave these MR524 a trial. I have also the Pres. Eris Studio 5 which did quite well in home studio. However, the Pres. easily cap out at higher levels. This, as I now use such speakers as direct keyboard monitors. Also quite short distance to the head. I always never liked the front bass reflex port of the Pres. as with lower bass content the port air would make quite some noise. What seems easier for near wall placement is then a disadvantage when closer to your ears. Nonetheless, the Pres. are not bad by any means. The MR524 on the other side have a way cleaner bass. Perhaps not as mighty as the Pres. but cleaner and also go lower and still sound nice. No bass port noise as it is on the backside. ;-) And they have a greater ... MoreHad considered first the Yamaha HS5 . I gave these MR524 a trial. I have also the Pres. No bass port noise as it is on the backside. ;-) And they have a greater headroom (I play synthesizer and piano and sometimes hammer really on the keys) and that is where the MR524 really, really shines a lot. I also appreciate that I can place them on the side due to the uniform tweeter waveguide. The Pres. is not so good there, as the waveguide is designed that the speaker stands. Also the MR524 are very silent compared to many other active speakers.
These Mackie speakers are really surprisingly good, especially for the price. They do take more power to drive than the Tannoy Reveal 501A's they replaced, but that's no big deal. It took a little bit of time to find just the right spot and angle for them on my desk, but now I'm treated to nice, deep, tight bass unlike anything I expected. These are rated to 50Hz and I can tell that's not an over exaggeration. The highs are much less sibilant and noisy than the previous Tannoy speakers I had. I listen to a lot of EDM, Rock, and Metal so mids and lows are critical. I do have a small subwoofer which fills out the sound just a little bit, but honestly these don't need it. I compared these to the MRMK3 speakers, and these really improve the clarity and accuracy of the music. I also cross-shopped PreSonus, Sterling Audio, KRK, Focal, Yamaha, and Pioneer. All the brands have their pluses and minuses, so it really comes down to personal preference. For what it's worth, I didn't find the Mackie MR524's to be quite as clear or bright as the PreSonus Eris E5's, but ultimately the lack of mid-bass response from the PreSonus speakers was the deciding factor. The PreSonus would be fantastic if you're primarily listening to classical or vocal music, but for everything else I think Mackie has them beat hands-down for the same price.I drive the Mackie's from my computer via Optical S/PDIF to a Yamaha RX-V1 receiver. I then pass the unbalanced output to a CleanBox Pro for balancing and run XLR to the speakers themselves. I keep volume on all devices around 50-60%. I have no doubt I could blast these to ear-deafening levels but I actually like my neighbors.
So glad to have some monitors again, after some idiot blew my previous ones up. They are smaller than those I’ve had before, but suit my needs perfectly.I’ve only had a few hours use so far.The imaging is splendid. The build quality is very good. The bass response is pretty big (And I have it reduced as they’re in quarter-space)I don’t imagine them to be fatiguing judging by the freq. response. The mid response is really pleasing too, clarity is good where often sacrificed in this area.Top end response is good, but to be expected with the soft-cone tweeter design.I like the understated design and compact size.Overall, really pleased. I’d buy them again if I had to.So I need to say something negative just for the sake of it. I love these for their honest clarity. I upgraded from a lesser set of these monitors and like these even more. I just wish they had threaded screw mounts to wall mount them. And I do wish the power switch was on the front. But they do sound great and these are a great option for pure clean sound!
