A superior hiking boot

Needed a new pair of boots ahead of a trip to NZ. Switched from Hoka—these boots are far superior on several dimensions. Did a 17 mile training hike and not even a hint of blisters/the normal ‘break-in period’ you’d typically encounter with a new pair of boots. Frankly feel that these boots are unfortunately not on the American consumer’s radar / are under-marketed here in the states. I don't really know if it's the shoe's fault or if my right foot isn't right, but the result is the same and I'm very disappointed. I bought these for an upcoming 9m hike at Moosilauke in New Hampshire. I've spent the past week or so breaking these in with shorter hikes and here's my impression:Weight: I would say these fall right in the middle, not super light but I never felt as if they were slowing me down.Quality: as is typical of Mammut products the quality is excellent. The sole is rugged but sufficiently pliable, the insole is cushy and the internal padding makes these very comfortable to wear. The tongue does a good job of keeping dirt/twigs/stones from getting in the boot, and the thick laces are easy to tie. I can't speak as to the waterproofing yet but judging by the rest of the boot I'm sure it'll be fine.Overall I'm happy with this purchase and look forward to using these as we ... MoreI bought these for an upcoming 9m hike at Moosilauke in New Hampshire. Glad To Be Back
13 December 2023

I wore Mammut boots for years but tried others as retail sources for Mammut dried up. My biggest complaints with other lighter boots related to grip and durability. I was pleased that Altitude Sports was carrying Mammut and I wanted to give a newer and lighter model a try. Hence my choice with the Sapuen.I have used the Sapuens in wet weather in Northern Ontario where the rock faces can be very slick. Happily, these boots gripped very well and I felt more confident on wet rock than I had since moving away from Mammut.Fit-wise, I consciously went half a size larger [for the first time] since I had found Mammuts' fit to be on the small for my feet -- especially since I use orthotics. While Mammuts seem to run small for me, they are incredibly comfortable. With the Sapuen, I really like the addition of the pad which has the rear heal loop attached and supports the achilles. It really helps nestle my heal in place very comfortably.I didn't have any real problems with breaking in the Sapuen. I did several hikes with a full pack and had a minor quibble. There was point pressure near the first outer hook eyelet adjacent to my right ankle. For some reason, that area was folding into my ankle as it flexed and became uncomfortable after a few hours. I adjusted the lacing and it seemed to get better. I don't know whether this was due to less robust wall material, lack of break in, me, or all of the above.Overall, these are great boots and I'm glad to be back with Mammut.

Good boots

Good boots, agreed with everything Robert said. Mild delaminating of the toecap just several days after using. Other wise no complaints. Sole is very good and sticky. Very waterproof and great for extended hikes. Tongue has trouble staying in place. Better than the usual approach shoe/hiking boots if in muddy conditions. Rivals Salomon’s. Don’t pay full price if you can get pro deal. Comfortable for everyday use.

Very comfortable right out of the box! Fits true to size. There is a break in period for all boots, but these were comfortable day 1! No pinching or hot spots when walking, bending, leaning, or kneeling. They also flex with your foot very well. The only problem I had with them was that they started to leak water into the boots slightly not long after I bought them. It just might have been a bad pair or something, so I reached out to their U.S. warranty department. I was connected with Alison who was both knowledgeable and professional. She remedied the situation by sending me a new pair of boots. I couldn’t be more happy with the comfort and Mammut as a company for standing by their word and warranty! I am definitely gonna be sticking with the Mammut brand from here ... MoreVery comfortable right out of the box! Fits true to size. Mammut hiking boots

This is a very well made pair of hiking boots. These boots have a great snug fit with probably the best snug/non-slip heel I have experienced with a pair of boots that have this level of rugged/robust outsole. The only thing close would be a pair of 'hiking shoes.' The flexibility/support/lightweight design provided by this boot is a very good mesh or compromise from each to provide a very rugged/sturdy yet fast hiking boot with great traction as well. I conducted an 18 mile run/walk I. These boots with an approximately 40lb pund pack with no blisters. I paired these boots with a pair of darn tough socks, and between the two I experienced a dry foor with no blisters or hotspots. I paired these boots with a pair of darn tough socks, and between the two I experienced a dry foor with no blisters or hotspots. I am of the firm believer that NO hiking boots (unless rubber or specifically designed for snow, etc.) are wayerproof, and I have owned quite a few of hiking shoes of many different makers. These boots provide a solid water resistance when walking through very wet woods and grass while providing relatively good breathability. If I had one issue with these boots, it would be the large "toungue." The toungue is very bulky and raises high above the boot. The toungue collects gravel, debris, etc. Which easily works itself into the boot. If this boot had a lower thinner more 'athletic' toungue, this boot would be a 10. Thanks for reading. Overall, I would buy this hiking boot again.

Perfect, however not as durable as expected
12 December 2023

My team used this shoe in Gaza for a week. All said the shoe is superb in its comfortability, breathability and overall is one of the best shoes they had. However, to all, the show lacked the durability level, in comparison to shoes from other brands. It is true that this shoe is not 'tactical', nor for miliary proposes with lots of ruins and metals involved. Yet I've found personally, the Salomon Quest 4 GTX far more durable and can compensate the breathability that tactical shoes are lacked of.Regarding to size, the size is very accurate. i,e, you should choose one size bigger, otherwise, it will be to narrow on the fingers toes.

Would've chosen six stars if I could

I've been wearing these boots for the past ~9 months, and they've held up to everything I've thrown at them. They kept my feet dry and secure on a six day canoe trip through Northern Ontario with some nasty portages, a six day hike through the Charlevoix, and eight hours standing in three inches of mud teaching cubs and beavers. Before I bought these I had been using a pair of Mammut hiking shoes that lasted ~2 000kms of hikes (the camino in Spain and the southwest coast trail in England, plus some other stuff). Like those shoes, these boots have been comfortable and have produced minimal to no blisters. I can't recommend Mammut shoes in general and these boots in particular enough.Note, though, that the sizing of these boots skews small. Perfect fit, nimble performance, grippy sole. I'm so glad I ordered these for peak/ridge scrambling with backpack approaches in the U.S. Rockies for this Spring through Fall. I had a pair of Mammuts from ~2014 that were my best-fitting mountain boot of all time. Other brands I'd tried since that time didn't quite have the fit and sense of ground contact. Unfortunately, Mammuts aren't stocked in my local stores much, so I thought I would take the chance of ordering online despite not having seen the boots physically. Thankfully, they exceeded expectations in terms of fit and construction quality.
