I owned an Martin HD-28, and still own a Martin D-35 50 year anniversary. I definitely rate the HD-28 a 1 star, and the D-35 is barely better. Anyone who knows Martin, knows the price of these are over $3,000. After only about 7 years, the back, and top glue around the body were coming apart. Have a less expensive Alvarez out of case, that this did not happen to.

Overall:I have been wanting to purchase this classic Martin model for a while. I finally pulled the trigger and upon receiving the guitar, I fell in love with the bold tone. It is very articulate, with great lows, mids, and highs. It took me a few days of owning this guitar to really give it a really good once over. I noticed that the quality control was a bit lacking. The guitar had fret spurs that needed to be corrected and the binding on the back did not line up correctly. That being said, everything was perfect but not what I would expect from Martin...Gibson sure, but not Martin. I ended up setting up a return.

After playing Martin's Road Series mahogany dreadnought for a year, I finally sold it and bought this beauty. I play it every day and it is my prized possession. I was once told that having a better instrument makes you want to be a better player; no argument from me. It's worth every penny it cost.
I bought it for what it is legendary for... BLUEGRASS FLATPICKING!Not saying it isn't capable of being used for other styles, but let's face it..this is the sound of bluegrass guitar.The instrument I received is great. My 2005 Martin D-18 was not plecked and was not set up well. Martin has a reputation of new guitars with high action and require a set up. My new HD-28 was plecked and ready to play. I have no reason to adjust the set up. The sound is right and I recommend this guitar from Musicians Friend..

I would end up putting it back in its case and go play my Taylor 114ce. I usually play electric. Finally decided to take it to a store with an authorized Martin repair tech to get it setup. February 2022. I get a call back a couple hours later telling me I need a neck reset. He said it had to come out of the factory like that. Im going through the Martin lifetime warranty now to get it covered. Hopefully I have no issues with them. Guitar has always been kept in its case with humidifier. I'd say it's quite the cannon with tons of color and sustain. I purchased the Martin Liquid Bridge pins, installed them and I can certainly tell the difference. It's made the guitar a bit brighter and a little louder. I'm very happy with this purchase and I definitely have a keeper.
