My first Martin after a lot of guitars. Great sound but there were issues with quality relatively quickly. Pickup system went dark. Took it to authorized repair center. After a while they got the ok to replace the Baggs (from Baggs). They also noticed that the truss rod was loose. I have had tuning issues from the beginning. Frankly I expected more. Also there are issues with the finish if get sweat on it (gets cloudy). I perform every week so having to deal with the guitar being in for repair is annoying.

I do some finger picking as well as strumming and it handles both nicely. And the action is just perfect - so easy to play. I just love the sustain and tone of this guitar. It has a much more robust sound than the D18 and just looks cooler.I purchased the electric version since it was not much more, but it's a bit of a disappointment. There is not much information available about the electronics so I took a chance. I was surprised there are no adjustments not even a volume control. I'll probably upgrade to something else at some point. It works fine when plugged in, but not having some controls on the guitar sort of sucks. Not sure why Martin opted to do that and why you can find information about it either. In my opinion, if you are looking at the HD28, get it without the electronics and go after market. There are lot of options out there.I love this guitar and can't say enough positive things about it. For me this is the best acoustic guitar money can buy and it's money well spent too.

It came next day air from musicians friend in Mint condition. I opened the case and there is was, the best guitar I have ever seen or played.The craftsmanship is amazing, the smell of the fresh wood, the tuners have a clock like look on the back, and it plays like a dream. I still intend to play my D-28 when jamming with other musicians, especially when banjos and fiddles are involved. I also felt that if Martin could capture the flavor of a vintage guitar, without my having to risk paying an exorbitant amount for an actual vintage model with possible unknown flaws or history, I should consider the new technology. My main concern was buying a guitar that I could not touch and feel, nor compare side-by-side to similar models. I was also worried about damage in transit. I read several reviews by others who had similar fears, and whose expectations were exceeded once they took delivery. So, I "bit the bullet," and ordered the guitar on-line with Musician's Friend. I have only had the guitar for about a week, and I love it. I have played two gigs already, and my satisfaction keeps escalating as I become more familiar with its features and how to employ them in a live setting. In short, the guitar has met or exceeded my expectations.

Woods are stunning, super nice grain rosewood and spruce along with the superior workmanship of Martin. The guitar is what you would expect from an hd28, has a huge big tone, a voice of its own, it cuts through the mix naturally, perfectly balanced tone with great sustain. Some people in the internet complain about the forward shifting? Don't know what they are talking about. The voice of this guitar is one of a kind. I play mostly for and with friends and small groups. This guitar played great right out of the box. Set up nicely. Can't imagine the sound she'll be making when she's nice and broke in.I own 30+ guitars ranging from Martin(7),Taylor(4)Gibson(2)Takamine(3)Breedlove(2)Seagull(2)Ovation(3)Guild(2)Epiphone(5)and a few other brands. This guitar is in my top 5 and maybe top 3. Depending mostly on the type and style of music I'm playing.

He is demonstrating different factory presets one can change with controls on top of the guitar. He even mentions that it has a tuner. The Retro HD 28e I received did not have these controls, nor did it have a tuner. It has little 2-dial controls inside the hole, one for tone (which didn't work) and one for volume. It also has a small dial that changes the presence somewhat. This is an inferior design, yet they are knowingly shipping out these guitars with lesser electronics and charging the same price as the one in the video. I play bluegrass and also play on a church worship team. The guitar sounds great plugged into the sound system at church. I play a lot "unplugged " and I love the sound. The neck design makes it easy to play. This is my first Martin. Don't know why I waited so long. I highly recommend it. Also, Derek was a incredible help when choosing this guitar. They had 4 and I wanted to make sure I got the right one for me.
Retro D28E what can I say (BEST) Great play even without amp--Fishman electronics fantastic-sounds like acoustic should sound thru Vox amp---I also have a retro D35 They each have different sounds both are excellent With a Martin you can't go wrong-Yes they do cost but my dad said you get what you pay for-I also have a Gibson Hummingbird. They are all top shelf guitars that will go with me when my time is up - I HOPE ! Life is short go out and get this D28 Trust me ! - Hours of real time guitar playing.
