My baby was not latching due to feeding her bottles in the hospital. So after doing some research I came across nipple shields. I didn’t have high hopes for them but was desperate to try anything. I must say these are a holy grail. As soon as I put them on my little one latched and started drinking. They come with a little case which is great to store them in your baby bag if you need them out.

Excellent tool

I’ve had a slightly preterm, sleepy jaundice baby who wouldn’t latch. Paired with my flat nipples this meant that we had to introduce formula 7 hours after birth. Medela products have been instrumental in getting our breastfeeding goals back on track. I used these shields to enable the latch and itgey have worked wonders (though not immediately - we were dealing with a very sleepy baby!). However once my daughter was strong and awake enough, she really took to these shields and it meant that we are still breastfeeding at 4.5 months old.These shields have a nice shape allowing some skin contact and they feel quite soft (unlike another brand I’ve tried). The box is a nice bonus if you want to get out and about.

Good value for money

I got these in the hospital first, just one shield and without the cover. I needed some extra so this was a great option as there were two and the case which was really convenient when leaving the house. The only issue is that they are transparent so very easy to misplace, but that is the majority of brands.I used these up until 10 weeks due to feeding issues but was able to transition away with the aid of ice cubes (google it). These were a great product as a temporary solution when needed, would recommend.

Helped me back on my breastfeeding journey!

I was very discouraged while in the hospital as my baby did not want to latch. I have inverted nipples and one nipple is smaller than the other so I completely felt like a failure. I also had cracking and my nipples were bleeding so we ended up formula feeding our baby until I healed a little to start pumping. I was exclusively pumping for the first month and decided that I really want to try breastfeeding again. Life Savers!!

These for sure saved my breastfeeding journey for the first two months of my girl’s life. We didn’t know it was her tongue tie that was causing her to reject my natural breasts, and we were given these in the hospital to help. She was able to breastfeed and gain weight thanks to these!! Since getting her tie clipped we have been able to get latched without them. Be sure to choose the correct size too, as she rejected the smaller ones and thrived with the 24 mm!!

Helped tremendously and not sure I would still be breastfeeding if I hadn’t used these. Was given one in the hospital and was told to use it as a lady resort but I used it every feed. Do whatever makes you most comfortable! Your baby is going to do great wether you use formula or breast milk. Do what works for you and your baby but I found these to be so helpful with our breast feeding journey! I would place in boiling water after every use and let it air dry. There world be times it would have a film on it and it wouldn’t stick as well so I would clean really well with a bristle brush then put in boiling water to sanitize. I bought these while attempting to establish breastfeeding and dealing with flat nipples. Wearing the shields really helped draw out my nipples so that my baby found it easier to latch. Meanwhile I was able to ensure my baby was receiving my milk vs. Having to substitute with formula. After a couple of weeks I was able to remove the shields and my baby could latch without them. I recommend every new mum has a pair of shields in her hospital bag for those early breastfeeding days. I’ve repurchased these ahead of baby no.2 arriving.
