I had a trip to Hawaii planned and decided to buy some hiking shoes at the last minute (the day before leaving.) I read the reviews of these online and decided to stop at REI on the way home from work on the off-chance they fit. (I have narrow B-width feet.) I tried one on and it fit great, so I bought them. I hiked up Diamond Head and Haleakala with no problems, surprisingly. I also accidentally spilled gasoline on them while filling my rental car and the Gore-Tex did not allow the gas to soak through into my sock. I highly recommend these. They exceeded my expectations. I am even wearing them at work today.

I bought these for an upcoming international trip where I will be hiking through dense forest in intermittent rain showers. These are very comfortable and versatile…I am also going to use them as my running shoes on the trip. The grippy sole and goretex will help me on the muddy trails. I love the Royal blue color. If you have a wide foot, this might not be the shoe for you. I have a narrow foot and the width is good. The toe box is not very roomy either. The size is just a wee bit on the small side and I could have probably gone up a half size.

I spent the entire summer working at a summer camp nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains and I needed a pair of shoes that would provide enough tread and support for running all over the mountain doing various activities ranging from mountaineering, high ropes, backpacking, etc. These were phenomenal, I had maybe one day of achy feet due to breaking them in and then everyday after that was amazing. These were by the far the comfiest shoe I have ever wore. They are water resistant to a degree, I stepped in a puddle and never noticed but in all day torrential downpour I definitely had wet feet. However after wearing them for 3 1/2 months straight, they definitely show wear and tear.

Purchased for walking varying trail conditions, ranging from asphalt thru muddy gravel and sharp rock. Needing only basic ankle support, agility, durability and reliable traction.First impressions are strong. Attractive tech-gear material styling showcases the various design features (lacing, Gore-Tex upper, cushioned lower). Sturdy, solid construction with weight, though not heavy.Feels balanced when worn and in-use. Profile and cushioning provide heel, instep and arch support, encouraging a forward facing stance. Very comfortable overall.Hiking will provide performance feedback.
Like a previous reviewer stated, these don't breathe that well.. but that is what makes it my favorite PNW, wet weather shoe. Just wear lightweight wool socks and you won't even notice. Its nice not worrying about rain and puddles saturating my feet. My only wish is that these had a little more cushion in the heal. It's a solid feeling shoe. The lugs grip well. It is light, allowing me to move quickly. I've logged over 50 miles in these so far and they've held up great. If you're looking for a shoe that breathes well, I'd look elsewhere. This one will keep you dry, which is what I was looking for.
Bought these a week ago and l am very satisfied with these running shoes. In just a weeks time my walking speed has increased over one mph and my running speed has more than doubled. Great cushioning, the soles protect my feet from trail rocks, and feel very comfortable to wear as a daily runnung shoe. Not the best looking shoe, but feels great. Might just be the best trail running shoe l've owned. Time will tell if the hold up to daily trail walk/runs.
I was looking to replace my beloved X Ultra 3s (my 3rd pair, which wore out significantly faster then previous versions...), but I couldn't pull the trigger on the X Ultra 4 due so many questionable reviews. The OUTpulse went on sale, so I thought I would try these out instead. The OUTpulse has a more athletic shoe feel and style. The outer breaths well enough and sheds water which I have come to expect from GORE-TEX. The feel is less rigid compared to the X Ultras, which also translates to a being less supportive. Sole are nice and grippy on a variety of terrain. My main complaint: there is some heel slippage - meaning, my heel doesn't stay in place when I walk. These are the same size as my X Ultra, my foot takes up about the same amount of space inside the shoe, but I am guessing that the heal pocket is not as defined compared to my past Salomons. Because of this, I would avoid using them for hiking more strenuous terrain. I didn't feel the same way about the X Ultra.Ultimately, these shoes are 3.5/5. I like the style, generally comfortable (my feet are on the flatter/narrower side), but I wouldn't consider them true hiking shoes due to some minor heel slip. Can Solomon bring back the X Ultra in classic form so I don't have make this kind of choice again???
Bought these for my husband last month and he really likes them, but he's only worn them twice. The aglet at the end of the shoestring has already fallen off. We've looked at REI, Amazon and a couple of other places for replacement shoestrings, but they don't have ones like the ones on this shoe. They're flat with a certain tensioning feel and a fleck design that makes them pop. REI thinks it might be a reflective design. I'm sure they exist someplace, but we can't find them. Salomon is supposed to have a 1 year warranty on their products, and I submitted a request to replace the shoestrings. After giving them a receipt, photos, and request for just the shoestring, they denied our request even though the shoes were less than a month old. My husband doesn't want to return them to REI, because he does like the shoes otherwise, and REI would then have to resell them at a discount because they've been used. The only one who wins is Salomon. We've owned their products over the years and have always enjoyed them, but now knowing that they don't stand behind their products, we would absolutely not consider their products given other choices.
After listening to Rich Roll's podcast with Colin O'Brady, I've decided to join in the international organized "12 Hour Walk" on September 10th last year (2022). I (only) have Salomon shoes in use, as they are the perfect fit for my (slim but long) feet (Sense Ride, Speedcross, SLAB Sense, …). Due to a very bad weather forecast for the date of the walk, I thought about using GoreTex gear, that would deal with the expectations out in the backcountry.Long story short. After some short research, I ran into that model and found it in a local store nearby. As all models from Salomon fit perfectly at size 10.5 UK, I've tried that one on and it was love at first sight. Although the desicion of wearing a brand new shoe for an estimated hike of 50 to 60 kilometers, everything was perfect over the period of 12 hours thru moderate to tough terrain in Bavaria. In the end I've summed up 56 k, with neither tired feet nor any blisters. After seven month in use, the shoe still is in top shape. I love the material and the color (sand), which is super easy to clean with only a brush. Lacing is easy, although the laces are a little bit long, but I use a double knot to shorten them. Lateral stability is top, and the shoe is very smooth while hiking. Often use them for gravel biking, too. Warm, cosy, and good grip even on the pedals. As usual with all gear, the stuff has to fit. Anything else won't make any sense.Cheers from Bavaria – Achim
I love the shoe but had to return it because of a fit problem. I have to think it is my anatomy. The side of the left shoe came up too far on the outside of my foot. The result was a painful abrasion and bruise on the underside of my left exterior side of the left ankle bone. The right foot/ankle did not have this problem. The shoe material is fairly stiff in this area which I would ordinarily think is an advantage. I suppose I have to find a boot that completely covers this area to avoid this problem. I will investigate other Salomon offerings.
