The boots & shoes are well made & provide the extra support I need for hiking. I can't provide 1st hand knowledge yet on how long they will last, but I expect them to last a long time. The only problem that I have had even though the size is true to fit is that I wanted plenty of room length wise for the colder months when I wanted to wear very thick socks. So my solution was to just get my regular size for the warmer months & the half size higher for the colder months. I realize that most people don't want to fork out extra money for a 2nd pair of shoes, but for me the extra fit flexibility & my recent toe joint issues I have had was worth the extra $s. Of course another solution I have tried, & it does work, is to get the slightly larger size and purchase a separate insole that may specifically address any special or unique issues you may have with your feet as well as fill up the slightly bigger shoe. So get off your butt & go for a hike!

Great shoes!.. These are my 5th pair. In my opinion…The laces really suck.within a year the outside lace covering will wear through.the inside core is strong but they will not stay tied & you will spend much time retying them. I haven’t found a good replacement color for them .But the shoe itself is very comfortable & lasts me a long time. The sizing is perfect for me (the wide size is just right) I’ve done the grand circle tour out west, Ireland, hiked the Tetons and Yellowstone (for a 68 year old guy).and this next pair is going to Italy April 2023,

With hiking boots that come up around the ankle, I usually end up having to cut out a hole from the foam liner for my ankle or else it presses and hurts my ankle bone badly. Merrell MOAB 2 Ventilator
19 June 2022

The Merrell MOAB 2 Ventilators have a hard sole that's thicker than most shoes of this type. The extra thickness takes some getting used to, and you'll find your self tripping on things(for a while) that you normally wouldn't trip on.The harder soles take some getting used to also; I removed the insoles that came with the shoes and replaced them with memory foam insoles, which made them much more comfortable. The hard soles take some getting used to, even with the memory foam added in; it's like you have to allow your feet to get used to a harder shoe and break them in a little also.Overall the shoes seem to be pretty tough and hold up well, the hard soles make them excellent for walking on sharp rocks and likely will add to the longevity of the shoe. They ... MoreThe Merrell MOAB 2 Ventilators have a hard sole that's thicker than most shoes of this type. They seem a little warmer on the feet than some trail runners I've worn; however, they do dry very fast if you get them wet.

Moabs and trails, a combination that can't be beat
24 September 2022

I have walked so much in Moab 2's I am now on my third pair of them. My first pair went to Ireland and extensively through Yosemite National Park and the Pacific Crest Trail, along with side trips to the trails of Bryce and Zion. My second pair went back to Ireland and added Scotland, Rocky Mountain National Park, Great Smokies and lots of high desert walks. I expect this third pair to cover at least as much. By the way, Moabs don't die, they just age gracefully and gradually move into retirement. They both still get worn for short hikes in the deserts of Arizona but have earned their place in non extensive walks. And, I also have a pair of Moab 2 mids that still are going strong with considerable miles left in them. I will never consider purchasing another brand or ... MoreI have walked so much in Moab 2's I am now on my third pair of them. My feet are happy!
11 August 2022

I have worn regular width shoes for years. But, I have found that as I have gotten older, my feet have changed and were no longer as comfortable. Especially after being on my feet for a while, they swell and then feel cramped. These wide width MOABs have taken care of those problems. They fit well - a bit of extra room all around, so plenty of room for liners and thicker hiking socks. But the wide toe box is really great for me! Great shoes!

My second pair.
20 July 2022

First pair bought 5 years ago; very comfortable, worn extensively in the Philippines during hot dry & very wet weather, often soaked through. Still holding up but figured I should get a 2nd pair. Same size 9 wide but feel a scoche roomier; first pair made in Vietnam, these made in China, if that makes the difference. Back in the US, come winter & thicker socks a tad extra toe room may be desirable. Now looking at possible 3rd pair (different color).

Reliable, comfortable, and durable
29 April 2022

I have been wearing moab shoes for years now. Ive had many many pairs. They fit well, and they tend to last for a long time. I motorcycle, bicycle, hike, walk the dog, and offroad in them, wear them to work, apart from house slippers or boots for mud, they are my primary shoe. Ive had some where the rubber became smooth on the bottom. Others where the toe box unglued from the rest of the shoe or had rips in the sides develop. One pair failed in a particularly annoying way and I warrantied the shoe wity Merrel and they replaced the shoes no questions asked. Shoes are wear items, they dont last forever, and my experience shows me that as long as you dont have a physical problem they just keep going. My #1 biggest complaint is they just get smelly/fungusy and there doesn't really exist any product to fix that. I usually change my insoles when this starts to happen and that buys me another few months of toleration, but it isn't fool proof.

Super comfortable Moab Ventilator shoes and boots!
9 August 2022

Fantastically comfortable walking and hiking shoe. I recently bought my first pair of Merrell shoes and wish I had discovered them years ago. I purchased the Moab 2 Ventilator wide width shoes and they are incredibly comfortable! I wear size 9 EEE wide dress shoes and have a high instep and the Merrell wide width in a 9 1/2 fit perfectly. I immediately ordered the Merrell Moab 2 Ventilator in the hiking boot and they are equally comfortable. I will wear Merrell shoes for hiking, exercising, and walking from now on.

Who's up for a 3000 mile walk?

That may be awhile.I cannot possibly reduce my review to a five word one-liner and have you understand why I believe what I think about these shoes, accordingly, I make no apologies about the length of my review because I have so enjoyed and appreciate what's being reviewed.About 40 years ago I was employed by a worldwide footwear manufacturer, working at its local production plant in the product development department, where, as a footwear stylist and technical designer, I became acquainted with just about every type of shoe and boot style one could imagine. More common and popular styles included CVO (circular vamp overlay), Gibson, Lace To Toe, Pumps and the style upon which Moab 2 Ventilator is fashioned, called U Throat. Why U Throat? Because when you look at such a shoe from the front, the opening which provides adjustability to accommodate a wide range of the same sized foot is in the shape of the letter U. Despite my knowledge of footwear, years later there was still more for me to learn and I did so with my 1st pair of shoes from Merrell. I've included 5 photos, each numbered for easy identification to illustrate what I learned.Walnut is the color of my 1st pair with Beluga the 2nd, explaining why the colors don't match in the side by side photos.I suppose most manufacturers would prefer to see pictures which put their product in a good light which is why I hesitated to include Photos 4 and 5, showing how the toe cap / mud guard of my 1st pair became warped and split. Look closely at Photo 5, the mesh above the split has torn as well. Understand this image does NOT depict a product that has failed or worn out, but rather depicts how I damaged my 1st pair of Moab 2 Ventilators.Have a look at Photos 1 - 4 to compare how repeated upward lace tugging changed the size of the U Throat opening and its shape, so much so that the toe cap / mud guard permanently buckled and warped. Also note the difference between the lace in Photo 3 and Photo 4. One is relaxed and loose while the other is tight and taut. By not relaxing the lace at the throat base of my 1st pair I effectively removed width from across the toes of my Wide Width Ventilators and in time, that created friction against my foot, stressing the materials literally to the breaking point.I average no less than 3.5 miles a day walking for fitness on a local Trail so it would have been easy enough to go looking for a different style of shoe, perhaps one made by a different manufacturer to replace my 1st pair of Ventilators given how they broke down and wore through... but I'm glad I didn't, after all, repeat business is how a company builds its reputation to the good, isn't it? I may have never learned what I discovered had I switched to another brand and in the process, walked away from a really great product (pun noted). When first time customers don't return you have to wonder why. Price? Quality? Value for the money? Truth be told, 'value for the money' is price and quality rolled into one, isn't it? This little discovery I made about lace relaxation made all the difference and made me a repeat Merrell customer which is why I believe the Company will have no problem publishing my rather long and visual review.Long story short, from the moment I put on my 1st pair of Merrell Moab 2 Ventilators, even before I laced them up they just felt right. Effortless to walk in, obviously comfortable to wear, they keep my feet dry and given the number of miles I got out of my 1st pair they are well worth the money. That's my story. I learned my lesson and now routinely loosen lace tension at the base of both shoe's throat openings so that the same thing doesn't happen to my current pair. And like I said, I have another pair ready to go when the ones I'm wearing eventually wear out... but that probably will be when this pair has more than 3000 miles on them.
