Best Hiking Boot!

Anyone that has travel Europe extensively knows the roadways and walkways are frequently cobble stone based or other materials that make walking somewhat difficult and hazardous at times. I had about two weeks of everyday wear to break them in prior to my departure so I was a bit concerned that I might experience discomfort from wearing a new boot for the 28 day trip. After weeks of walking tours, trail hiking in some rainy conditions I am pleased to report that they were the most comfortable boots that I have ever owned. I fully expected to have a blister or two and I did not have a single blister through the tri[p. This is a very comfortable and durable boot and should be on your list of considerations.

Highly recommended for general walking.

I am now on my third pair of Moabs and they have been an excellent and very comfortable set of boots having used them daily and walked around 9000 km in them. Being able to tie them up around the ankle ensures they are tight, support my ankles and do not rub and I have never had any blisters, even when new. As will be judged from the number of boots purchased and the km walked I tend to wear the soles out in around 2000km per pair, which is one downside, but I am walking on a mix of hard concrete/tarmac/gravel and soft surfaces. (I now use the old ones for knocking around in the garden!) If you were always on softer surfaces I'm sure they would last longer, but I am happy to put up with that for the comfort they provide and I don't have any discomfort when walking ... MoreI am now on my third pair of Moabs and they have been an excellent and very comfortable set of boots having used them daily and walked around 9000 km in them. They do claim to be waterproof but you certainly couldn't wade through water or boggy tracks in them but dampness from rain or walking in grass is no problem and they do dry overnight. If you just want comfortable secure footwear for general and mainly track use these will be ideal.

Looks good. Very uncomfortable though.

Was hoping to make these my everyday hiking and working boots, but everytime i put them on I keep thinking about the time that I would take them off in the end of the day. The arch is short and is not supporting the foot. The top of the boot is rubbing against ankles. Driving the car in these is very unpleasant. I am a lifetime Ecco boots and sneakers owner, always had an amazing experience with the show fit, size and experience. Just needed a rugged everyday boot with GTX protection. I may have got simply unlucky this time.

Love the new Moab 3
4 June 2023

I’m really impressed with the new Moab’s. I had an old pair for the last ten years and needed to update. To start with the entry and exit is so easy. Always a struggle with mid and high boots, but these are so easy and natural. The greatest thing about the Moab’s is that they are so comfortable to wear all day and yet great for hiking. I finally got in a rocky hike last week. I found the new Moab’s to be a big improvement over the old ones. The soles were supportive, comfortable and I didn’t feel the rocks through them like my old ones. Also great traction uphill and down with no slipping. Very confident all around.Very happy I got these and would give a high recommendation to anyone.

New to the Moab, but Already Hooked.
18 June 2023

I picked up 2 pairs of the Moab 3 Mid, one with Gore-Tex and one without. I had bought a cheaper pair of Merrell's at a discount store years ago and wasn't impressed, but my coworkers swore by the Moab and I decided to give them a try. So glad I did. These were purchased primarily for work, where work is mountain maintenance - dirt trails, erosion ditches, single-track courses, water run-off systems, rocky scrambles - I get through it all in a day. I get a lot of all-weather exposure, too; and sometimes it feels like I see all four seasons in 24 hours. But I'm putting in miles on pavement, mountainside, and at the office for the last few weeks and man, I love these boots. The pair with Gore-Tex are noticeably heavier in hand, but once they are laced up on my feet ... MoreI picked up 2 pairs of the Moab 3 Mid, one with Gore-Tex and one without. The pair with Gore-Tex are noticeably heavier in hand, but once they are laced up on my feet they don't feel heavy at all. Although I bought the two pair so that I could have hot day and wet day options, more often than not I just end up taking the waterproof ones out on the hill with me. It's so nice to not even have to think about soggy feet and where I'm stepping. I would recommend some upgraded insoles, but the boot itself is just an excellent piece of equipment, and I'm already thinking I will buy them again.Plus they're great-looking. I might have to grab the low-top for excursions into urban settings.

Noisy, but comfortable
15 January 2023

Lifelong wearer of Chameleons and thought I would give these a try. Comfortable out of the box, true to size and look good, but every step I take is accompanied by a noticeable "Thwup" sound coming from the front of the left shoe. The sound seems to come from the fabric at the top of the toe box springing back into shape after being bent when taking a step. I disproved the theory if the sound coming from the insoles by powdering, and then replacing them with a gel insole, but the sound remains. If you bend the shoe by hand, you can hear it from the toe box. My hope is that it will go away after time, but another review I saw said that they still got the sound after a couple of months of wear. It may be okay on the trail, but in a store I announce I am coming to ... MoreLifelong wearer of Chameleons and thought I would give these a try. Really the best hiking shoes out there
6 March 2023

Still the best hiking shoes I've tried. Switched to another brand last year and was completely let down. There's really no reason not to go with these. I got 1/2 a size up from my normal shoe size and they're perfect with thick hiking socks but also work fine with regular socks. No sliding issues so far and the extra half size always seems to help with decline damage on your nails. I've put at least 40 miles into them so far with no discomfort whatsoever. Confident I'll continue to buy these in the future.

Somewhat Disappointed
4 March 2023

This is my 3rd paid of Merrell mid-hiking boots. I currently have 2 pair of Moab 2 mid boots, waterproof and non-waterproof, and I alternate wearing them depending on the weather and time of year. I purchased the Merrell Moab 3 Mid Gor-Tex for better waterproofing. While the construction of the boot is excellent, I find that the boot length is slightly smaller than the Moab 2. The bigger issue I have found is the comfort of this boot. My other Merrells were comfortable out of the box. I can and do wear them all day with any issues, not so with the Moab 3. I have been breaking them in over the past few weeks and they are still somewhat uncomfortable. I think Merrell boots are an excellent product in general, I am somewhat disappointed with the Moab 3.

Time Will Tell
25 April 2023

First of all, I have always liked the looks of the Merrell Moab. And I have never had a problem with the shoes being comfortable right out of the box. I hike mostly in redwood forests so there is minimal hiking on rocks, thus I never have an issue with the vibram sole. And I hike 4-5 miles three days a week. My biggest concern is how well the waterproofing holds up. Before I got the GTX boot, I had the "Waterproof" version. And as I have seen in other reviews, and my situation is the same, the "waterproofing version" does not last that long. So I'm trying the GTX to see if the waterproofing will last longer. So right now, I have to give "good" ratings on some of the questions until I determine how well the waterproofing holds up.

Very Satisfied

This is my second pair of waterproof Moabs. First Gore Tex. My first impression was that they were a harder base insert, but the thinking today that prevails is that our feet don’t necessarily need more cushion. Even the Superfeet sole inserts are surprisingly hard. I have not broken them in on the trail yet, but they are so much cooler than my last pair. I had them on all day for two days out of the box, and I could not believe how comfortable they are and my feet breathe so much better and are cooler in temperature. I wore out my last pair often having to reglue the soles and I am hoping these last longer. Next time up the Mt. Elinor trail or the Colonel Bob trail I may revise my opinion but for now excellent.
