I was amazed at how comfy they were straight out of the box. I broke them in on a 2-mile initial walk and they felt well-formed to my feet in just a short time. Very good arch support too - I’m confident that they will hold up against whatever I require. My only negative - and it’s a slight one - is that they seem roomier than I expected. I just worry that the Novas will loosen up even more over time.Nevertheless, I’m very happy with my purchase…Merrells have yet to do me wrong!

It fits a bit looser than the Nova 2 and consequently I think it will give me a longer wear. My wide foot pushes out the sides of the shoe, and in the case of the softer fabrics my toe will find a way to create a hole at the side. That's my only concern for the Nova 2. What I like:This shoes is super light and very comfortable. The soles are well insulated against small rocks and rough surfaces. It is definitely waterproof as well. What I did not like so much:Definitely not for cold environment. My feet were cold, with the temperature in the low 40s to high 30s. Now granted I was wearing a regular socks, but I never had any issues having my feet getting cold in my Adidas Terrex, with the same socks on. Traction on wet surfaces, is another issue for me. Sticky enough, but definitely not for climbing wet rocks.Overall, I love this shoes. The comfort and lightness are enough for me to like it. Definitely a great daily shoes for me, except during winter time.

Great look and better feel!

I always wear Merrell Shoes! For 10 years now I’ve gone through maybe 3 pairs l. Only upgrading when I need to. I push these shoes hard, at 6ft 250+ lbs I wear the 13 wide. Perfect fit and very comfortable! By far the most solid and supportive sides and bottom I’ve had out of a pair of Merrell’s. Will have to see how this Gortex waterproof membrane works, I work in textiles and am interested to say the least. I live in MN and it’s winter currently, have walked through average snow/slush so far and have had no issues. My feet always feel cool inside, and they have done great keeping them warm outside as well. All around very happy with these Merrells! Great shoe, but not waterproof.
5 January 2023

I bought these shoes for the winters where I live. It's very, very wet and rainy. These shoes are comfortable and stylish, but unfortunately they are not truly waterproof. I would describe them as water-resistant. You can walk around in the rain for 30 minutes or so and they will stay dry, but if it's truly raining consistently and the pavement is wet, your feet and socks will eventually get wet (I'd say after about 30-45 minutes of walking). I'd give these shoes 5 stars if they were truly waterproof. I'm keeping them for light rain or summer use. They also worked well in some light snow out on the trail. The build quality seems excellent -- again, just not waterproof, therefore only 2 stars.

Hiking review
14 August 2023

Bought the shoe’s for a first time trip to Iceland with plenty of hiking in mind. Wanted waterproof shoes for the waterfalls and grass. The shoe was excellent for being waterproof while wearing full rain gear, I was absolutely drenched but stayed dry. The tread was tough, durable and provided great grip/traction. Wore onto a glacier for a short hike and never felt uneasy. The salesman directed me to a 10.5 instead of going to an eleven and that extra toebox room was key.The only dislike of the shoe would be the arch support, I’m accustomed to wearing Asics running shoes and this shoe didn’t provide the over pronation I needed. Although this was corrected with an arch support insert.Overall this is a great shoe and I would recommend.

Hit it out of the park on this one
16 September 2022

I bought these shoes over the weekend and they arrived Wednesday. I had a rather big hike the next morning (Thursday) and even though I knew it was taboo (ie not smart), I decided to risk hot spots and wear these shoes on the hike. Semi gnarly trail (Mineral Creek Trail up to the Pacific Crest Trail in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness, WA). A LOT of chunk rock and soft dirt (our state trail assoc "reclaimed" this lost trail this summer, so a lot of loose dirt as we haven't had rain (yet) to tamp/pack it back down from the new edge work. That is the background. The shoes were rather unbelievable in their traction. It was all dry, but so much rock, dusty rock, and straight up dirt on angled slope and not one slippage. Over 3000 feet of vert and not one skid... Mind blown. ... MoreI bought these shoes over the weekend and they arrived Wednesday. Zero hotspots despite no break in and a worthy arch support in the midsole that it deserves mentioning. I still replaced the insole with my favorite aftermarket insole...but still, I could actually tell the shoes had arch support!Great job Merrell...and keep that gum rubber colored outsole in the stable (love it).

Merrell Nova 2 GORE-TEX
19 June 2023

I am "over 60" and have used many, many different types of athletic/running shoes. About twelve years ago I developed plantar fasciitis and it was awful. Although I have not had any recurring symptoms (fortunately) in more than ten years, I am always looking for comfortable running shoes that have a firm midsole. This shoe is absolutely perfect for anyone because it's comfortable, light, has an excellent midsole, grips really well, and performs with excellence on short or long runs and on a wide variety of terrain (smooth to technical). I hardly ever take time to provide my response to products however, this is an exception because the performance of these shoes is truly remarkable - I feel I have finally discovered "trail running shoe nirvana" (ha). Reserving Final Judgement
26 July 2023

My Merrell Nova 2 Gore Tex shoes arrived today. I am a bit disappointed at the offset due to the condition of the packaging and the fit of the shoes. When shopping for these, I first measured my feet and then went to the website for sizing. The size chart on the site is useless and I ended up contacting customer service. I was assured by the representative that these run large. He recommended a size 10.5 and I decided on a 11.5 wide as that was the extent of my selection choices. I would have chosen a size 12 or 12.5 if they had been available. The representative was very courteous and seemed eager to be of assistance. I am hoping that they loosen up as I break them in as I am wearing them over my bare feet as of this writing and I eventually hope to wear them with ... MoreMy Merrell Nova 2 Gore Tex shoes arrived today. I was also concerned about the quality of the shoes as around 19.2% of the reviews are reporting poor quality conditions. I must say that they appear to be a quality shoe (other than the shoddy packaging they arrived in) but only time will tell, therefore I will reserve final judgement until I have had them for a while. I hope I am not disappointed as I want these to be a good shoe. I like the style and color selections, but only time will tell.

These shoes are trash, leave Vibram in the enviro.
7 August 2023

Maybe this show is good to wear to the mall, but they aren't any good on the trail. The Vibram sole comes off pretty much immediately. I bought a pair, was stoked to try them, and after the first hike the Vibram "teeth" around the outside of the show started to flake off. Not cool as it makes the shoe unbalanced, plus I most definitely left Vibram out there in the mountains somewhere...Well, I got in touch with customer service, they said "sorry, we'll send you a new pair". Cool, maybe I got a lemon pair to begin with. New pair comes and....exactly the same issue is occurring. Now I have two pairs of garbage shoes which actively put Vibram into the environment and aren't really wearable anymore because the sole is unbalanced and actively tearing.
