MSI MAG 401QR UWQHD - Disappointing | Avoid | Waste of Money

I was excited to receive it, yet after plugging it in I noticed a couple of significant drawbacks.(1) Screen brightness and contrast is too high(2) Text and images grainy.Despite spending hours using monitor calibration tools such as those in native windows 11, EIZO, LAGOM, I can't find the correct settings for this monitor for brightness, contract and image quality. It's not the cables, they work fine with my other monitors, and nothing wrong with my graphics card and its running the latest drivers. All I can say is this monitor is the worse I've ever purchased. Hope PC Case Gear help me find a replacement or reimburse me.

Perfect for WFH or casual gaming

Spent many days looking at other monitors in the 38”-45” range that were all 900$+ CAN.Not wanting to risk testing adapters to connect my macbook to 2 external displays, I decided to make the upgrade and am LOVING it.I can easily fit 3 windows side by side for quick and efficient work.Lots of settings to ensure the screen is not strenuous on the eyes. With a proper Mac adapter to HDMI the quality is perfect.Although a “budget” monitor compared to others out there, this is just what I needed without breaking the bank.

Poor QC, low quality electronics.

Great monitor ... when it works. The 1st one had a cluster of dead pixels in the middle and after an hour of work started to blink and show white horizontal stripes. Replaced it.The second one was fine for 2 weeks. After that the screen started to blink and stay black for 20-30 sec. Was even not showing OSD. Turning monitor on/off was fixing the problem. This was happening under no load - just in windows.Looks like there are either design issues or poor quality parts.

[Rewarded Review] Amazing monitor
19 July 2024

Where this monitor shines is the value you get for all the monitor real estate. This monitor will compete with the LG and Dell ultrawides which cost more than DOUBLE what this is. Offering the same and more features. This is an excellent monitor for those working from home ( USB C video input, USB A ports, and no power brick!!!)I love that they went flat with this monitor on top of not requiring a power brick. Making this a massive space saver.Price to features ratio, this monitor destroys everything in the 38"-40" monitor market.

This is just what i needed to fill in the gap of games that dont fully support surround mode gaming. I did do some tweaking to the nvidia settings when hdr was enabled but it has made my games look amazing. I havent tried it with a console yet but my 4080 super works well and i am able to turn on all the eye candy. Currently i am only using it on hdmi because i allready have all the display ports on my card being used. Capped at 100hz is fine though. Ive been playing Returnal and Ratchet and clank rift apart. Both look amazing and play flawlessly. The picture quality is on par with my Acer predator 27 inch displays. I would reccomend this to anyone looking for a 1440p monitor with 144hz or higher expectations in theor games. Text also looks crisp and movies as well. ... MoreThis is just what i needed to fill in the gap of games that dont fully support surround mode gaming. So I got this monitor to replace an old 32 in 4k monitor that would not display past 30 hz on my macbook, I was hesitant to get it because I wasn’t sure it would work and would get the 140hz or the 155hz overclocked dp mode. Well let me tell you that not only runs at 155hz at its full 3440 x 1440 resolution, its color is great. When you first set it up you will have to use an hdmi cable to get it to work but then using an apple thunderbolt cable and changing the monitor to usb c works like a charm. You will have to set the monitor to overclock dp mode to use the 155hz but I recommend setting R and G to 90 and B to 100, contrast to 60 and brightness to 80 to get a very nice picture. This rivals my studio display and I think this will be my main display and have my ... MoreSo I got this monitor to replace an old 32 in 4k monitor that would not display past 30 hz on my macbook, I was hesitant to get it because I wasn’t sure it would work and would get the 140hz or the 155hz overclocked dp mode. [Rewarded Review] Lesson to stick with LG
22 January 2024

I bought this monitor in late November. I did research. Reviews were majority promising.A few days ago it started having issues. I thought it was just related to my system being in sleep mode at first.Nope.It has issues. It was shutting on and off. As well as menu popping up and moving on its own. Yet it wouldn’t acknowledge when I pushed on the menu. It’s out of the return period by 10days. I don’t buy bestbuy warranty because they’ve either NEVER honored it or they put up a huge fight, catch them lying etc etc. Online and in person. I’m not paying for disrespect.I have other MSI products. They’ve gotten better (motherboard impressed me) so I decided to go with this monitor. The warranty isn’t the best. To get to MSI customer support is a journey. It’s better than what it used to be, still messed up. I got unnecessarily bounced around a bit. Last person did guide me to the rma slip, so that’s good. I’m going to have to fork over some money to ship and who knows what else. The rest of my monitors are LG. And has lasted years. Even through storages, homelessness etc. The main driving point on this for me wasn’t just the cost but the quality and LG is making some questionable decisions so I don’t know if I want to stick with their stuff.I wouldn’t mind paying out twice the amount for a quality 40in instead of possibly half that and then another 100 and a bunch of time for

[Rewarded Review] Nice image quality, half-baked software and KVM
29 August 2023

I just want to first say that the image quality is very nice and as a monitor, it works well. However, the KVM function is flaky (limited USB), there is only ONE DisplayPort input, and I just confirmed with MSI support that it is not possible to change inputs if the monitor is in standby. Why might that be an issue? Consider this situation: I have my desktop PC connected via DisplayPort (because I want the fastest refresh rate for gaming). I turn that off and the monitor goes into standby. I later decide to plug in my work laptop (fresh Windows install, latest display drivers) into HDMI 1. If the monitor's Auto Scan setting on the source is set to "off", the ONLY ways to wake up the monitor to switch it to HDMI 1 are to either send a signal over DisplayPort (e.g. ... MoreI just want to first say that the image quality is very nice and as a monitor, it works well. I have never used a monitor that you couldn't manually wake up and change the input. For size reference, the photo is with two 24" 1080p monitors.

Great monitor at a great price. This is about the least expensive wide monitor you can get with all the "bells and whistles" for this price. It has the FreeSync that allows game play, can be set to quick response time with some setting in the menu, lots of color adjustments, and so much more.I have this connected with a USB4/Thunderbolt cable to my laptop and it works perfectly. If you do not want a curved monitor, this is the best deal.My only "gripe" is the stand. With the included stand, the back of the monitor is about about 5 or 6 inches from the furthest back you can place the stand on the desk. Not a huge gripe, but keep that in mind when selecting this. you may want to get a different (VESA compatible) stand so you can move the monitor further away ... MoreGreat monitor at a great price. The monitor would be great, except it goes blank for a few seconds every few minutes. Iy was faulty right out of the box. I waited more than a month for it so I tried MSI support and message board troubleshooting and none of the steps helped. Now I have to cover the cost to ship the screen to MSI to fix on a screen I received just over a month ago and reported issues with immediately. I won't buy their products again, and I'm not certain I'd buy from best buy again. Other retailers have better or longer return policies.
