I was excited to try my first MSR product. I bought the mug together with PocketRocket 2 mini as a set. I'm glad I tested it out before heading out backpacking for more than a week. The grip started sliding down while cooking. I guess the heat expanded it. I'm glad it didn't go all the way down, otherwise, I could caught on fire. I definitely wouldn't recommend this product to anyone, specially for the price tag and that there are other alternative more reliable products on the market.

Excellent except for that clear plastic bowl - also cooked mine

Looks like everyone else who’s reviewing this has had the same issue! Love the set, great for backpacking and for making coffee while camping. However, because we often use it for making coffee (and therefore haven’t had our coffee yet), we also melted the plastic bowl. Would love to get a replacement for it - it’s an important part of the set - but can’t find it in stores either which is disappointing for sure. To the product engineers, definitely change the colour of the bowl!

I just received the pocket rocket delux kit along with this pot set. I'm bored and quarantined to the backyard, so I tried the stove with this pot along with the the larger version. I boiled water a few times to get an idea of fuel consumption and time to boil. Boil time for .5 liters on a breezy 60 degree day, 150 ft above sea level, is around 2:45 mins. Used 16grams of fuel up to boil. I allowed everything to naturally cool and I warmed the canister up to room temp each time(really bored). On the third try I boiled eggs. The silicon sleeve fell down which I removed before it melted. I had a feeling this would happen as this is mentioned in other reviews. I feel this sleeve is unnecessary anyway. While the sleeve was still attached to the pot it was hot to the touch minutes after being removed from the stove. I was expecting cooler temp. I'm not disappointed though. This is a great pot that holds a 3.9 oz/110g canister along with the handle and pocket rocket deluxe. I would give it 5 stars, but it did fall apart. The sleeve will slide back on, but I assume it will quickly slide down again. 2 hard boiled eggs consumed 54g btw.

Great set up with 2 details to note
11 July 2021

I just used this for a 2 week bikepack trip. It worked great to make coffee, oatmeal, noodles, etc. Packed nicely into bottom corner of my frame bag. 2 things though, like some other reviewers I ended up torching my plastic cup before sunrise one morning in a stupor to make coffee and wake up. Would be good to make another colour and or sell these as replacements. Also need to really dry the inside and gas canisters or store upside down or it will corrode and leave rust in pot, even 1 day to next. Otherwise super solid set up. Despite these issues, still highly recommend and will have this a staple for my bikepacking kit.

Great size, ok quality.
4 May 2023

Size is awesome when you want to pack small, I prefer the size of this one over my previous GSI Pinnacle Soloist set. Quality on the other hand is just ok, the cup is really thin and the pot is fragile, it gets easily scratched by the included lifter or the PocketRocket 2 stove if you choose to store it in the pot. It's kind of a puzzle to fit the fuel canister, the stove and the lifter in the pot but it fits, the folding foon I have from the GSI kit does not fit with all the rest though.

I too, spaced removing the translucent cup upon arriving at Grizzly Lake in Tombstone Pk, Yukon. It's not just me! Having a good giggle w Y'all!
28 July 2022

My husband and I have been enjoying the dual for years of backpacking, but since his ankle injury a couple of years ago...I'm a solo gal so downsized to this little one. OMG! There I was, last year about this time of summer..early up @ 5am..under the short ceiling cloth alpine cook tent provided at Grizzly Lake in Tombstone Territorial in the Yukon. There were flames all around my stove..liquid plastic oozing while I quickly grabbed the flaming apparatus to lower it outside of the wooden & cloth structure to ground. Yikes...scraped off as much of the coagulated goo as possible so it didn't stink up the place for the next few coffees &. meals. I will now reach out to the parts dept, as was suggested by the responder. I do love this item's simplicity..Cheers IMG_1321.jpg

MSR's Trail Mini Solo cookset
3 March 2020

Fantastic. Great unit for light-weight carry. Enough water to boil for noodles, rice, dehydrated pouch meal, or a generous coffee or tea. So very light, it rivalstitanium - it's actually hard-anodised aluminium. One thing to be aware of is in the use of the provided metal pot gripper. DO NOT use this on your pot rim as it WILL leave marks. As good as this light-weight pot gripper is, use it on something else and instead buy a plastic one by Optimus (which I'm sure Snowys would have)Overall this is a good purchase and I'm well pleased with it. By the way Snowy's indicate that their stock is getting low, so get in there and buy this. It wont be regretted, I'm sure.

Torched plastic bowl
11 July 2022

I cooked some food, put the plastic bowl on to retain heat. After I finished I wanted some coffie, because the plastic bowl is transparent, and I was tired after long day trailbiking. I managed to put it on the fire and burn the plastic. I know now that I could have spray painted it to make it easyer to see. But honestly MSR should have improved this long ago as many people have had issues with this. Allso theres not spare cup in stores :(Please reach out to me if you have a solution MSR

Weak Design
4 December 2022

I give it 2 stars for the light weight and the gripper. Sending back. I was trying to beat out my GSI Minimalist Kit for a very slight weight advantage. I love MSR stoves and have had several of their cook kits over the years so I was surprised to see how poorly designed this item is. I venture to say that anyone that loves this kit has never compared it to the GSI Minimalist Kit. Virtually the same size and weight but so much more functional. Pot versus Pot (GSI is lighter). Lid versus Lid (GSI Lid flips to turn the pot to a drinkable cup...once slipped into the neoprene cozy. MSR pot would burn your lips and the provided cup is only cold rated and would burn your hands). Rubber Rand versus Neoprene Cozy (MSR rand could melt if stove flares up and is so narrow ... MoreI give it 2 stars for the light weight and the gripper. Sending back. Lid versus Lid (GSI Lid flips to turn the pot to a drinkable cup...once slipped into the neoprene cozy. MSR pot would burn your lips and the provided cup is only cold rated and would burn your hands). Rubber Rand versus Neoprene Cozy (MSR rand could melt if stove flares up and is so narrow there is only a small safe spot for your fingers. The GSI pot is removed from the stove and placed into a full coverage neoprene cozy the keeps one from burning their hands and functions to keep the contents hot). Metal Pot Grabber versus Neoprene Gripper (MSR wins this one. The GSI gripper is virtually weightless but awkward to use and one could find hot liquid steaming their fingers. The MSR gripper is far more functional). Cup versus Cup (The MSR cup is cheap flexible thin plastic that will roast your hands if it has hot liquid in it. It also kind of disappears when stored on the bottom of the pot and people forget about it and melt it on their stove. GSI does not have a separate cup. The pot double functions as a functional insulated cup when placed into the cozy and when the lid is placed on top. For those that think that MSR wins in this area because of a separate cup, you will be disappointed. What are you going to put in it other than a cool drink? It is basically only a measuring cup. Some might not like that you do not get a separate cup with the GSI. If that is important to you, for what it is worth, the included cup that comes with the GSI Soloist Kit, slides right onto the bottom of the Minimalist pot. When this is done, I believe the difference between the two kits is about 2 ounces). I count ounces but 2 to 3 ounces for a fully functional kit versus one that is fraught with issues is a win for me. All GSI needs to do is create a decent pot grabber and it will be a complete Game, Set, Match. NOTE: Do not buy the GSI stoves. They are junk. MSR wins the stove battle at every level. So, in my opinion, MSR Stoves and GSI Cook Kits.

great set but the plastic bowl..
1 September 2021

I agree 100% with all that has been said on the positive things to this set. great performance, great compactness - perfect for bike packing. I used it on many trips. One of the main reason I bought it: the extra plastic bowl. I thought this was a neat feature that no one else offers.Same as a bunch of reviewers here, I torched the cup on one of my trips early on.Apparently this item can not be sold separately as a spare part for a few dollars - what would be the solution to these mishaps.I did reach out to MSR a few times.. never a reply.Great product that can be improved on the details - semi great customer service.
