A good shoe for a select set of people and specific settings

I am flat, but wide footed with a high instep. Basketball shoes, primarily Jordan’s, are super comfortable for me because they meet all of my foot requirements. This shoe is definitely not a Jordan and for someone like myself this shoe is uncomfortable. The shoe has a low instep and is designed for a narrow to average foot. I took a picture of how the shoe expands whenever I step down because of the wideness of my foot. The thin soles also don’t provide a ton of padding and the hard plastic heel cup is also very unpleasant whenever I step. I also noticed the shoe doesn’t have a ton of arch support so flat footers like myself may find this uncomfortable to wear for long periods.Design - the design is awesome. The simple black and white colorway is versatile and easy to wear. The upper is made of knit and is super lightweight and breathable. Although I have a high instep, the knit upper allowed for a slightly comfy fit on the top of my foot. The logo design on the side wall of the shoe and the ribbed look in the middle of the shoe also provides some character to the overall look and feel of the shoe. It’s a simple yet innovative designFunctionality- I’m a big believer that a shoe should be versatile. For a shoe like this I feel it could be used for weight training, jogging, and indoor soccer. I’ve tried to wear this for other sports like indoor soccer and jogging but the shoe wasn’t able to support either of these activities. First, the knit upper is extremely thin so whenever jogging in cold weather or playing indoor soccer you can feel all of those elements like the coldness of the weather or the hardness of the soccer ball. Second, the padding in the soles provide no support for running and the impact all goes to the knees. I can say it was painful getting up the next morning. But as a weight training shoe, the product does its job. Since weight training is primarily a sedentary activity, there doesn’t need to be a ton of foot support. But anything outside of this is extremely painful. In conclusion, this shoe does the job it was intended to do: weight training. It’s not entirely versatile and can’t really be worn for people with wide and flat feet but for people with narrow width feet wanting to do some weight training, this is the perfect shoe. I can’t say that I would recommend this hands down since I’ve observed that the use case is for specific situations and for a specific group of people. If it had a wider width with more support, I would definitely recommend in that case.

An excellent gym shoe

I did a lot of research on the best cross trainer shoes (I wanted a shoe that was good for my calisthenics at the gym) but wouldn’t break the bank. Metcons were well regarded and often are in people’s top 3 gym shoe. Having tried them for a few weeks, I can understand why. They have excellent grip, breathe well and are fairly low/flat for balance. The downside is they run a little small/narrow. It’s in line with Nike’s usual shoe size but there is a slightly more narrow arch. If you haven’t worn Nike’s before, it’s worth trying a pair on before buying.Lastly, you won’t be able to run in these comfortably. I 'upgraded' to a pair of custom Metcon 8's straight from the website after having the Metcon 4's and being absolutely in love with them. The Metcon 8 turned out to be a disappointment. They are VERY different from the Metcon 4. To start, they are very narrow - especially in the toe, and the heel plate is rigid plastic which makes them feel really weird. There is no cushion or spring that I could feel. I did find that the rigid plastic heel plate gave me good stability when doing heavy squats, but they are so uncomfortable that I can't wear them walking down the street. The rigid heel plate makes them bend in a really odd way at the midpoint of the shoe. I haven't worn them to the point of wearing them out, but I bet that will be first point of failure down the road ... MoreI 'upgraded' to a pair of custom Metcon 8's straight from the website after having the Metcon 4's and being absolutely in love with them. I gave them a solid try, but I ended up going back and buying another pair of Metcon 4's. The 4's are fantastic across everything I do in the gym as well as on the sidewalks and streets. I'm sure this is a solid shoe for some people, but definitely try them on in-person and give them a walkabout before committing.

Designed for limited applications ONLY for soft surfaces

Bought a pair on September 4th because they seemed cool, light and confortable; I truly didnt need them and the local representative recommended me them for training. On the other hand, I was not ware that the shoe was not designed to be used on hard surfaces like asfalt, concrete or sports courts.I probably used them no more than 15-20 times until I had an accident at the basketball court. It seems that the soft layer wore out quickly while training on outdoors.A couple weeks ago while training indoor pickleball, I extended my leg and the hard material (red/orange) came in contact with the surface (floor). I slipped badly hitting the ground with my elbow/hand. I thought I broke it but it was just a hard land on the wood-surface.The shoes are visually cool and ... MoreBought a pair on September 4th because they seemed cool, light and confortable; I truly didnt need them and the local representative recommended me them for training. I slipped again and at the point I decided that I should retire them.I wore them now on my errants to match my jeans. These are expensive shoes for daily basis usage. Only recommended to be used on soft surfaces (rubber, wood, etc.). These shoes were only used for training since I have my running and tennis/pickleball shoes designed for such sports.

Good shoe, but could use some improvements
2 December 2022

The Metcon 8 is another shoe within the Metcon line. I used the shoe as both an everyday sneaker and as a gym sneaker to lift weights in and do some cardio.I got the shoe in my true size (8.5 M) and found that they fit almost EXACTLY as my true size. I will say that I prefer my shoes to be a little snug, so if you like some room, go half a size up. Because they have a mesh upper, they will expand when you wear them a bit, which is nice but takes some time. The Nike React foam is indeed comfortable. I felt that I could move around as freely as I needed to, especially during work outs. It also keeps it lightweight, a good characteristic of a training shoe.Overall the traction does what I need it to. The rubber utilized at the sole of the shoe is good and hardy; I feel it can withstand a lot of wear and tear.I did notice that some of the craftsmanship wasn’t up to par with what I would expect. I noticed some small glue stains by some of the paneling. This is absolutely not a deal breaker for me, but could be for some.Design-wise, it’s a very fine and sleek shoe. My pair comes with some writing on the side that says “Engineering to the exact specifications of championship athletes”, a nice little feature detailing Nike’s commitment to athletes. I also just generally love black and white shoes.Overall this is a good shoe especially for working out. I decided to give it four out of five stars because while I like it a lot, some of the craftsmanship issues and break-in time knock it down a little.

Nice looking, stable, grippy, but odd fitting
26 February 2024

I love the looks of the shoe and how stable the heel fits. The hyperlift piece gives me a secure feeling while performing the exercises. My only complaint is the fit and the lockdown. I think the shoe would do great with an additional laceloop to fit the heel better. In regards to the toebox, it feels rather spacious, a bit too much really, but I would not size down because then the midfoot would feel too tight. Overall I like how the shoe feels while hitting the workout, but the fit and lockdown do not convince me that much. It might be my foot shape though, so it might fit great for others

Shoe Is Good

Upon wearing these shoes, they seem to be pretty light on your feet. I did have an issues with the sizing. I typically wear a size 11 but I would say if you are serious about getting these shoes, I would go a half size up to make it feel comfortable to perform well in. To me, my feet felt too snug with my true size, so to make sure your feel comfortable and movable, go a half size up. Overall the shoe looks good and definitely light on your feet as I stated as a person who is into cross fit, they will do you well. You cannot ask for a better, lighter, breathable shoe as my feet tend to get sweaty when I am really working out, so the mesh on these makes it easier on your feet to not feel like they are being overworked. Sturdy performance

Starting with the design of the shoe, it is subtle and sharp. The shoe lines are simple making the shoe appear supporting and solid. And then just a slight pop with the wavy lines of the check part of the swoosh. The fit itself is nice for the purpose of working out. The heel feels solid and really supported when you need to push through that squat. The mid foot is locked in with the outer side extra support making the foot feel locked in. The toe section with a durable mesh and extra grid support on the outside ready for a solid push off with out feeling like you might blow out the pinky toe portion. The toe box was definitely stiff at first but after a solid few workouts it was much more flexible. The lace lock technology is great to keep those laces in check while doing a lot of movement. The shoe is a great workout shoe, although I do not think I could wear the shoe all day long due to the fact the mid foot is so locked into the shoe which is great for the workout but the mid foot needs a little breathing room for comfort throughout the entire casual part of the day. What I like most about the shoe is the adaptive balance of the shoe which provides a collaboration to be able to do any type of training in just one shoe. If I were to try something new with the shoe I would test bringing the rubbery grid all the way around the big toe side of the toe box as I imagine it would feel more supportive with out giving up flexibility or breathability. Overall impressive good looking training shoe.

Well Rounded
3 December 2022

Started getting back into my routine of working out and needed a shoe with good support for cross training. The shoe felt great from the moment I put it on. The material was flexible and provided me with support during my workout. Squats were an ease. The shoe accompanied my foot very well thanks to the material and design of the shoe. I could honestly wear this shoe for all my workout needs. What I liked the most about the shoe was the support I received without the heavy feel. The shoe was light and durable which made it easier to move and train. I do wish there was more ankle support. I would recommend to my workout friends.

zero cushion or bounce.
7 April 2023

These are not for running or walking. These are purely a power lifting training shoe. If you want to lift weights get these. They have good ankle support and stabilization. They have zero cushion or bounce . I wanted more cushion in my step so I will be returning these . The tongue has a Velcro for the laces which is cool. The tongue is super tight so if you have high arches like I do may need a different shoe. They have a wierd plastic hook in the back but not strong enough to pull shoe up with , purely decorative and kinda ugly imo. See pics. Over asthetic gets a 9. Comfort gets a 3.
