NiSi 55mm Nano IR Neutral Density Filter ND1000 (3.0) 10 Stop

The NiSi 55mm Nano IR Neutral Density Filter ND1000 is specially designed for landscape photographers. This filter is made from high-quality optical glass with nano coating to prevent losing any single bit of detail. Neutral density filters do not affect the coloration of the image and the 3.0 density provides a 10 stop reduction in light from entering the lens. Attaching a neutral density (ND) filter to your lens uniformly reduces the amount of light entering the lens. The ND filter is helpful when the contrast between the highlights and shadows is too great to get a quality exposure. The ND Filter also can enable greater motion blurring and image detail by allowing a large aperture and/or a slow shutter speed to be used. A variant on the ND filter is the graduated ND, in which there is a gradient that affects the reduction of light in a graduated, neutral level from 100% to 0% across the length of the filter. The Graduated ND is recommended for shooting landscapes and seascapes because you can reduce the brightness of the sky (for better contrast) but still maintain an affecting exposure of the land or water. By using a neutral density filter the camera is vulnerable to infrared light which will cast the unwanted red color to the photos when shooting at a small aperture. The added the infrared protection coating layer to this filter which helps to eliminate the infrared light through the lens to bring back the natural color.

Awesome sunset photos

I cannot believe the depth and saturation of color of my sunsets using this filter. NiSi also has a free APP called NiSi Filters that helps you chose the correct shutter speed. This takes some of the mystery out of using it.

The NiSi 6-stop Nano filter lets one prolong the exposure speed. When mounting a camera on a tripod, one can use long exposures to flatten the appearance of waves on a lake or harbor, or give clouds in the sky the appearance of movement. The filter is well made and fits well to Nikon lenses.

Good Quality - Expensive
21 June 2018

NISI 180mm filters are glass and not resin or other plastic material. High quality glass and coatings on NISI filters. Recommend using only NISI 180mm filter holder (s). Filters are fragile and slippery and could be difficult handling filter in the field / outdoors in cold weather. Move slowly. Filter comes with its own pouch with magnetic flap which should be sufficient if careful how you carry it such as in a photo bag, backpack, etc.; be sure other items are not pressing against the filter pouch as that could cause this expensive filter to crack.

Great filter!
15 October 2017

This is a awesome filter to add to my collection. This was the first filter purchase for my Nikon 14-24, so there was a little bit of a learning curve for me, but I love it. I took it with me on a photo shoot in West Virginia to capture the fall color and it was great for waterfalls. I won't use this all the time, but when I need it, it will be great. A little costly, but it will be worth it.

Great for slow shutter speeds.
2 June 2020

I purchased this filter to help produce slow shutter speeds for water fall photography. The NiSi reviews I have read show their filters to be upper tier. This filter seems to be neutral with no color cast. I am very happy with this product.

Long exposures in full sun

Awesome ghostly pictures of the ocean. This effect can only be achieved directly from the camera with long exposures. NiSi also has a free APP called NiSi Filters that helps you chose the correct shutter speed. This takes some of the mystery out of using it.

Solid performing ND filter
9 November 2017

Purchased the NISI ND 10 stop as an upgrade from my Hoya ND 10 stop and it has outperformed the Hoya in every aspect. The performance throughout different lighting is impressive with a perfect balance of highlights and shadows. The lens also has a higher tolerance to dirt, marks or drops of water on the lens whilst shooting. My kit will soon be filled with nothing but NISI filters!
