I’ve heard a lot of hype about Olaplex (both bad and good), but never gave it a try myself until recently. I used the No. 4 Bond Maintenance Shampoo in conjunction with the No. 5 conditioner. I was a bit wary given all the news about hair loss, but am happy to note that I didn’t notice anything abnormal while using this – I experienced the same level of shedding as I usually do and really didn’t notice anything of note as compared to other shampoos that I regularly use. The ingredients list is large – there's no way around that – it's massive, but contains some natural ingredients (banana fruit extract, rosemary leaf extract, sunflower seed oil, etc.) as well as biotin, panthenol, and glycerin. I found that it lathered the same as any other sulfate-free shampoo and rinsed out easily. I felt comfortable using it on coloured hair and didn’t notice any stripping or fading. My goal was to see my hair look a bit more rejuvenated. Recently, it has been dry and dull, with a lot of split ends and heat damage. My hair is just naturally on the drier end and prone to frizz, simply the way it’s always been and likely genetics. I also do heat-style my hair 1-2x a week, which doesn’t help the situation. After using this consistently along with the No. 5 conditioner, my hair felt softer to the touch and appeared to be shinier (and as a result, healthier). It didn’t magically “heal” my split ends, but it softened the look of them and made my hair look more cohesive, rather than looking like a bunch of distinct, ratty strands. I don’t know if the difference was dramatic enough to justify the high price point of this shampoo, but it’s a very nice luxury to treat your hair to occasionally. A small amount does go a long way, so it may be more justifiable to splurge on a bottle.

There was a great promotion going on at our local hair salon supplier store so I purchased both the shampoo and the conditioner from Olaplex in the salon size, which is 2000ml. I had received also samples of Olaplex No. 4 in the regular size in the past. The great news is that both 2000ml products lasted me for over a year. Please note I am not a hair stylist, I purchased both for personal use. Now the bad news is, I was never impressed with these two products. I have colored hair and I just don't feel Olaplex in general ever improved my hair in any way, whatsoever. I never felt my hair was healthier or moisturized with Olaplex, actually quite the opposite. I am still happy to give Olaplex a second try if the brand will be coming out with new products in the future, but I am not a fan of their perfector, shampoo, and conditioner hence the 3-star rating.

I will leave this review on all the products I used that caused HUGE CHUNKS of my hair to fall out on wash day after using them as instructed.I get a silk press about 2-3 times and year and before using their products my hair was mid-back length, thick, with voluminous layers. However, due to low porosity my hair would feel dry very quickly and needed lots of moisture and oils to stay hydrated. The least manageable part was how the dryness let to many split ends despite regular trims. With static due to dryness, the ends would get knotted even with wide tooth combs or brush detangling brushes. And because of those small knots, certain hair strands would snap or get tangled up even more.Even though I had lots of volume and long hair, the bonds were weak and i ... MoreI will leave this review on all the products I used that caused HUGE CHUNKS of my hair to fall out on wash day after using them as instructed.I get a silk press about 2-3 times and year and before using their products my hair was mid-back length, thick, with voluminous layers. And because of those small knots, certain hair strands would snap or get tangled up even more.Even though I had lots of volume and long hair, the bonds were weak and i wanted to strengthen them. Therefore, I purchased Olaplex hair kits that would help with the issues I was experiencing. However, Olaplex [Falsely] advertised their bond repair products, saying that it will support strengthening hair. But the absolute opposite happened. Their products as a whole dried my scalp so much that it looked like I had psoriasis. After the first application, of numbers 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, rinsing when the instructions said rinse, and leaving-in the products that were marked as leave-in, I would have never guessed that the moment I rinse my hair, so much would be just dropping off my head.I thought, maybe it's the weather, and went on with using the products. But by the time i made it to wash day #2, my scalp had gotten SOOO much more dry than it has ever been before. And it itched like crazy. Again, I thought it was the weather, and kept using them in the prescribed order from the instructions on each bottle. But before i could even realize that the products were killing my hair from the root, my scalp had become so irritated that it had dried into extremely huge flaky layers. And no matter how much I washed and scrubbed my scalp, it didn't help. I have never had issues with dandruff and now suddenly from the nape of my neck to my front edges, it was hard cakey dandruff.I had to clarify my hair from their products with warm white distilled vinegar water. Only then, the the flaking stop. What's even worse is the state of my ends, they look fried and feel even more brittle. they snap immediately just combing through with my fingers.I kept losing so much hair that I now have BALD SPOTS.My hair is so light it's traumatizing considering how much body and life there was to it before I started using Olaplex. It has now been 3 weeks since I stopped the product and went back to my old routine but every time I go under the showerhead, I still shed like cat's fur in spring. My hair is fried an unmanageable. I have no other option but getting a bob chop at ear length. The damage is ridiculous.I am convinced 99% of positive reviews were PAID for, and many are bots!!! There is no way this product is not killing people's scalp. They're trying to induce dependency and LIED through their teeth about their products being for all hair types.A LIE, it's all a LIE!! DO NOT BUY!Especially if you already have dry hair, low porosity, frizzy hair, thick coils and dense volume.Their products might work for straight and overly oily scalps, but it was in no way tested on people with my type of hair and dry scalp.
I was gifted by Olaplex the No. 4 Bond Maintenance Shampoo for free, in exchange for my honest review of the product. As a first time user, of the Olaplex product line, I was not quite sure what to expect. My hair is very long, frizzy, and naturally wavy. I use heat on my hair as part of my daily hair routine. So I am always worried about damage like split ends and breakage. I was pleasantly surprised to find, that after using this product for the first time, I could see and feel a difference in my hair. I instantly could feel and see a difference in my hair. It was overall smoother and had a nice lustrous shine. My hair looked overall healthier than it has in a good while. Best benefit of all, is that my split ends were not extremely visible. I am extremely satisfied with this product, and I am looking forward to trying other products from this brand.
I’ve been using the Olaplex range for several years and it’s completely changed how I care for it. I don’t need to wash it as often as I did and it feels stronger, looks shinier and feels amazing. If you’ve not tried Olaplex your hair will thank you as makes brushing and combing so much easier, mine doesn’t tangle as it used to before. It was an absolute nightmare. It would tangle and be painful to comb out and even using a tangle tease brush it would still hurt and I’d lose so much but that changed when I started using the shampoo and conditioner. They both are thicker products and if used correctly a bottle can last an awfully long time.Do yourself a favour and buy the Olaplex range and use religiously and you’ll find you’ll not need to wash it so often. (They use RedKen in the salon but I take my Olaplex to use) I will continue to use Olaplex as it’s completely transformed how I treat my hair. I don’t need to dry with a high heat setting and if I’m straightening I can do my whole head in less than 5 minutes. (My hair is about 16” long and layered)I cannot recommend Olaplex enough and urge everyone to at least try it out.

I use it in every wash, massaging it into my scalp and throughout my hair, allowing it to sit for a few minutes before rinsing. This routine has become an essential part of my weekly hair care, and the results speak for themselves. My hair is now more manageable, healthier, and looks fabulous with minimal effort.

I have used two litres each of this Nº.4 Bond Maintenance Shampoo and the Nº.5 Bond Maintenance Conditioner and notice absolutely no difference. Granted, my hair is not easily prone to breakage, but there is some frizz from mid-length to ends (see "Context" below) and there has been no noticeable improvement in either the strength or appearance of my hair when using Olaplex products. (I tried several Olaplex products during the same time period and used them *exclusively* to control for other variables and objectively judge whether there were any benefits. There were not. During the trials of 2L each of Nº4. shampoo & Nº5. conditioner, I also used multiple containers of each of the following: Nº.0 Intensive Bond Building Hair Treatment, Nº.3 Hair Perfector, Nº.6 Bond Smoother Leave-in Styling Treatment, Nº.7 Bonding Oil, Nº.8 Bond Intense Moisture Mask, Nº.9 Bond Protector Nourishing Hair Serum, and the Volumizing Blow Dry Mist.)Context:My hair is very fine/thin but there is a LOT of it, about three times the average number of follicles (according to multiple hairdressers/stylists and one dermatologist) and takes about five hours to go from towel-dry to completely air-dry in ~60% humidity. It's about four inches past my shoulders and is largely straight with minimal natural body waves. It is not damaged but for a few years now it's been mildly frizzy from mid-length to ends. (Am in my early 50s and I, my GP, and hairdresser/stylist who is the same age as me, suspect it's probably hormonal.) Have tried numerous products to reduce the effect and smooth it out. Not found a solution yet. Not prone to breakage easily but will not hold an up-do when clean and dry because it's too slick; it has to be dirty or coated with dry shampoo and/or a sticky product first. But, bizarrely - and impossibly - if you so much as breathe on it the wrong way when it's dry, it will tie itself into knots. Literally tiny knots and no one ever believes me until they see it for themselves. Windy weather is painful to recover from if I wear it down and free-flowing. I have almost no grey hairs; my natural color ranges from medium-light to medium-dark brown hair. I get a professional cut with some lowlights plus a few highlights around my face done every 10-ish weeks. I wash and condition it almost every morning since just one night's sleep causes it to look greasy regardless of pillow type or covering. I blow dry about 75% of the time (with a Harry Josh dryer) but not all the way dry every time.
Unfortunately, I am a product junkie and I jump from product to product regardless of how effective the previous one was. I also have terrible-quality hair (extremely fine, thinning, coarse, freezy, etc) which drives me to buy even more products. Bond builders have been a game changer for my terrible hair and I can safely say I have tried them all that are out there. Nonetheless, this shampoo I keep returning to as I feel nothing can beat this. I used Olaplex products almost uniquely for 2 years and they saved my hair. However, because of my hair texture which needs both intense protein and also hydration/moisturisation after two years of intense use, I noticed a lack in hydration and moisturization. However, because of my hair texture which needs both intense protein and also hydration/moisturisation after two years of intense use, I noticed a lack in hydration and moisturization. So I moved to use the Olaplex shampoo and conditioner on the week I die my hair and moisture or the equivalent of 3 washes and then another shampoo and conditioner/hair mask that are mainly moisture focused with min protein. After every 3 washes, I also do a deep clean and use a bond builder (separate review). The tow years of use of solely these products and then moving to this combination doubled my fragile hair that are now far stronger.
