If my dogs enjoyed the food, I would probably give it 5 stars. I bought this food because I like what the company seems to stand for, and it’s superior clean ingredients. I was coming from using Farmer’s Dog, and was hoping for a slightly more affordable and convenient option. Unfortunately, not one, but both of my dogs (Aussie/Great Pyr/poodle mix 6m old, and a Border Collie mix 2.5 yrs) will not eat the food unless I put something else on top of it… and even then, it is only if they are SUPER hungry. I was really bummed. It happened with both the ancient grain high-protein for puppies variety and the Ancient Grain Salmon Adult variety. I am cautious about trying another flavor since I am just not sure they will like it.

My new puppy loves his food and so far, so good. He's had reactions to another brand, so I went back to Open Farm (I had previously purchased for my beloved past dog, Harley, who always did well on the Catch of the Season kibble and Wild Caught Salmon Stew). So, now, my new puppy is on the puppy kibble with grains. Doing well and I just purchased a new bag. As he grows, I plan on introducing him to the gently cooked and some of the other products that Open Farm offers. I feel good and more importantly, my baby is doing well on his new food! Just purchased the Cod Skin treats for him, too! So many good, wholesome products to fit all needs!

We love Open Farm food and have had only good experiences feeding it to our dogs. The puppy food has been no exception. It has high quality, recognizable ingredients that our dogs love to eat. We rotate through the different flavors of Open Farm to add variety and they never cause stomach upset. We also found this brand because the humans in our house have severe food allergies. We love that Open Farm has no dairy or added probiotics, making it safe for our family.

I wish there was a different puppy recipe available - without chicken? We went through a miserable time of endless diarrhea until we finally figured out that our pup cannot eat chicken. She no longer needs to eat puppy food and has been eating a variety of Open Farm non-poultry kibbles (with healthy toppers) without any issues. (We did try the adultChicken & Turkey recipe once, just to see - and immediate tummy troubles again. Exchanged that bag for Beef & Salmon, and no issues.)It would be great if Open Farm offered a fish and beef or lamb puppy kibble.
My puppy is excited about meal time again! The small crunchy pieces make for little mess & an engaging meal time. Their size also makes it easy for us use as reward during training. Our last kibble brand contained nearly a pound of crushed bits + dust at the bottom of the bag and I’m happy to report this does not, at all. It was an easy transition for him over the course of 1.5-2 weeks, no upset tummy or other GI issues. In fact, he is more regular, has a shinier coat, and has more energy. I really appreciate the ingredients being so high quality, we plan on keeping this little guy around for a while & what’s in this food while help him stay healthy to achieve that. Only downside is that it is a bit smelly, but he’s obsessed with it & that’s really all that matters.
My 4 month old Golden Doodle, Simba, was no longer interested in his baby blue puppy food. We first switched him to single ingredient treats and wanted to also give him the best quality food since standard kibble has crazy fillers and unneeded ingredients. I was so happy to find that Open Farms ingredient list is so clean and it also gave me peace of mind to know that they work HARD to keep up with ethical and sustainable standards which is a plus. Our first order was a HIT! Simba gets super excited about meal time now and can’t stop staring at his bag. He also loves his Calming supplement chews which have helped make training easier for those long car rides. I’m placing my second order this week and will be looking into someBroths and toppers for him. I promise ... MoreMy 4 month old Golden Doodle, Simba, was no longer interested in his baby blue puppy food. During transition onto open farm, puppy developed dry, itchy, flaky skin. The more the open farm percentage, the worse his scratching and gnawing became. Reached out to OF for assistance as we had experiences this with other brands, but only experienced great coat, gut and energy with our other dog when eating OF. Open farm has not responded, leaving us to beleive they no longer stand behind the quality we are used to recommending to everyone who cherishes their animals health. Devastated to report we will be cancelling our subscription and going to back to the food our puppy our was thriving on prior to the transition to Open Farm.
We transitioned our black labrador to Open Farm's Puppy Dry Food around 3 months of age. We did a slow transition (15 days) since I had a small bag of the first food to go through (we were switching to a food with grains). Our puppy had no issues. No negative bowel changes or anything. He likes the flavor. It has a slight fish smell based on the ingredients, but not bad. We also received the Gently Cooked food and he loved that. I use this as a topper, mixing it with his dry food and some additional fruits and veggies for breakfast. I've read some reviews that people didn't do a slow transition and their dog's tummy's became upset. Definitely do a slow transition to avoid this. I've read some reviews that people didn't do a slow transition and their dog's tummy's became upset. Definitely do a slow transition to avoid this. Our puppy's coat is so shiny ans healthy since being on this food, we definitely noticed that difference. Our Vet even commented on how healthy his skin and coat are. I'd recommend this food to any puppy owners that want a clean option for their furbaby. I went down a lot of rabbit holes researching food and was scared about what is in some brands. I feel comfortable giving this food to my puppy and will continue to use it as he grows.
Our puppy had bad gas, which is unusual in the breed so we were pretty sure it was the food. We changed over to another brand and the gas continued. Before determining that this is just the way his system works, a friend recommended Open Farm Pet. I immediately felt aligned to your values and practices and ordered the Ancient Grains puppy food with my fingers crossed. After the transition period, the gas has almost completely resolved. We are now looking to transition our older dog to Open Farm because the quality is so much higher and want her to have these benefits too!
My puppy LOVED this food for the first part of the bag, but then towards to middle/ bottom of the bag she stopped wanting to eat it. At this time she was also having some stomach issues and blood in her stool. The vet did an xray and showed wood pieces in her stomach. Now she does eat mulch occasionally but now I am super worried as I looked in her bag to find THIS!! Giant piece of wood in her food. I live in an apartment and her bag stays in the bathroom so there is absolutely no way this wood chip would ever be from myself. Check your bags very carefully
