Orijen beats every other kibble in every possible metric. They have not had a quality recall ever. They use as few synthetic vitamins and minerals as possible, you won't have to worry about toxic levels of Vitamin D (look at the deadly recalls from 2019 from Hill's, and many other brands before and after.) They back up their primary animal protein source with MANY more, and always chock the food full of liver and heart tissues as well. Unlike other lines that use legumes to really beef up the protein analysis, they only use minimal amounts as a starch source. (If you're concerned about DCM, they have grain inclusive diets as well that focus primarily on oats and pumpkin vs sorghum, corn, or wheat, which tends to be more allergy friendly.) (If you're concerned about DCM, they have grain inclusive diets as well that focus primarily on oats and pumpkin vs sorghum, corn, or wheat, which tends to be more allergy friendly.) Orijen is, however, very high in protein. This may not be the right food for all older dogs (or cats, especially CKD cats) or obese pets. It keeps my three dogs at a fantastic weight (I feed less than the bags recommend as mine aren't as active anymore with the youngest being almost 7). They don't need much food to be satiated. They still have fantastic muscle tone, shiny and dandruff free coats, and great (but minimal) poop. My pickiest eater is my 15 year old Pomeranian, and the ONLY dry food he will touch is the Orijen Senior option. I also love the cat lines, wet and dry, as cats are obligated carnivores and you're hard pressed to find a dry food that has nearly as much animal protein and organ tissue as Orijen does. Many, many ferret owners feed the Cat and Kitten line for this exact reason. Of my 15 years working professionally with animals and following animal nutrition, this continues to be one my all around favorites. Oh, and unlike many other foods, their fish diets don't hide in chicken. Their red meat diets don't hide in chicken. Always read the ingredients if you have an allergy dog, and I i highly recommend the Six Fish or my favorite, the Tundra line (novel proteins) as a first line option when dealing with allergies before more prescription level options are required. You'd be surprised how much of a difference a very nutritionally dense and species appropriate diet can make for your pets.

Orijen takes care with their ingredient sourcing, quality control, and recipes. My 9 (10 in May) year old dog Gibson has dealt with hypersensitivity to yeast and allergies to lots of things (we've tried hypoallergenic, raw, dehydrated, food trials, kangaroo, you name it), and while I don't think he'll ever be 100% itch-free, he does well on Six Fish.I appreciate that Orijen includes only fish proteins (and grain-free plant/legume proteins) in this food; many other options also include other proteins and their derivatives (for example, chicken fat, porcine plasma, eggs), which Gibson has shown sensitivity to. It's also super helpful that Orijen provides the percentage of dietary starch and sugar in their recipes; when you're battling chronic yeast problems, you want to feed something low-starch. The starch and sugar content of this food make it a great option, and the fact that I'm able to easily find that information makes life that much easier! Most importantly, Gibson does super well on Six Fish. When he is on it, he has boundless energy and is extremely playful. My parents remarked several times - almost every time they've seen him since he started eating it - that he was "like a puppy" and that I should keep doing whatever I'm doing! It's clear the food is the reason for his behavior; I've recently changed foods just to try some other formulas, and his energy level has gone down, he's sleeping more, and he just seems more "senior". I'll be putting him back on Six Fish ASAP so I can have my youthful dog back. While he doesn't do great on the Amazing Grains version of this food (digestive issues), he has no problem with the grain-free version; stools are solid and he is not gassy. The kibble is big enough that he has to chew it, not swallow it whole, and it's nice and moist (not dry and powdery). Overall 5/5!

They explained that my kitty would definitely sense any changes in food and he may not like that bag, but they’d be happy to give me a coupon for another one! I was flabbergasted at their positive response. I didn’t expect anything of it but soon I was expecting a coupon in the mail, but I received a curated care package for my cat with treats and a sample of the Six Fish food instead! Hands down the best food
8 May 2024

I've always owned pitbulls. I've had 7 in total. I lost my 1st 3 to cancer. Before learning about orijen I fed my dogs whatever they wanted. Whatever they liked. I bought mainly Purina brand dog foods, but would switch it up every few bags to kibble and bits because they liked it. I had no idea I was slowly killing my dogs. I decided when Titan was born that I was going to do an experiment with his food. Zero milk bone dog biscuits, only orijen food and pig skin chews. That boy thrived. At 11 yrs old he had hardly any gray hair. He was super solid with muscle. He didn't have 1 lump or bump or weird growth on his body. Everytime he seen the vet they all said it's so hard to believe he is 11 yrs old. I rarely had to bath him. His coat was always amazing and he never ... MoreI've always owned pitbulls. Everytime he seen the vet they all said it's so hard to believe he is 11 yrs old. I rarely had to bath him. His coat was always amazing and he never smelled bad. I got compliments always on how nice it was to pet him. He was so soft but not greasy where it left a film on your hand. I sadly lost him last year to someone in our neighborhood putting rat poisoning over our fence because they didn't approve of his breed. They ended up killing both of my dogs, his little sister Nahla was only 6. I have 2 rescue boys now and this is the only food I will ever feed my dogs. I switch up between original, 6 fish, great grains, and fit and trim. If you take the time to compare any other brand dog food out there, you will not find a dog food that even comes close to being the quality orijen offers. For the people that say it causes bad gas, none of my dogs have ever gotten bad gas from this food. My dogs hardly ever fart where it's noticeable. The 2 rescue dogs I have now were severely malnourished when i got them. 25lbs soaking wet. They were horribly gassy at first but I think that's because they were getting used to eating. They gained 50lbs in 6 months on orijen original and they don't have any gas anymore. Just the 1st few weeks of adjusting to it. I highly highly recommend this brand

Loose stools
8 June 2024

I wanted to love this food. The ingredients and quality are fantastic. However, this gave my doodle loose stools. This lasted for the duration I fed her this food. So much so, that I switched her back to her previous food. I assumed it was my doodle’s sensitive system. The problem stopped within a day of feeding this. I gave the reminder (3/4 a bag) to a friend. It gave all three of his dogs loose stools and horrible gas. Both my doodle and my friend’s dogs are used to switching between quality foods without any issues.

Makes my dog sick

I love Chewy. I have fed this Orijen six fish food to my dog for 6-7 years without any issues. He used to love the taste and never had any issues whatsoever. Now he eats the food and has severe gas, belches, diarrhea, and loose stools all at the same time. When he's not doing that he's throwing up. When he goes to his bowl he turns away from it. He won't eat it anymore. Orijen are you not reading these reviews? There is a ton of critical feedback over the last few months of dogs, vomiting and being severely sick because of something you have changed in this product. Did you put in more beans, more lentils or what? Speak up, be responsible and change this formula back to the way it was. You're causing animals to be extremely ill and you are not taking responsibility ... MoreI love Chewy. I have fed this Orijen six fish food to my dog for 6-7 years without any issues. Which has made me and Vet very happy because the Siamese has been under 10 pounds. So yes, I will continue buying this product for my cats and I will continue shopping at unleashed on Huntington Drive in Monrovia California. I wish this brand of food had a rewards program for every so many bags you buy you get either five bucks off or you get a small free bag, maybe you guys will consider that

Review of ORIJEN Six Fish Cat
12 September 2024

We got a small pack to try for our extremely fussy cat, who either tries something once and then leaves it or simply throws it up, so we had no expectation - wow he loves the origin Six Fish!He really seems to be completely addicted to it!So checked the recommended portions and we decided to put a small portion in his feeding ball - two weeks later he stills loves it, eats every spec, goes round the floor checking in case he's missed any (never seen him do that with anything before) at the same time he also doesn't overeat it, seeming to be satisfied & satiated - although if he runs out of them I'm the middle of the night causes a case of the worse noisy nagging. So we've tried out some of the other flavours and likewise he's very happy with them, tending to leave ... MoreWe got a small pack to try for our extremely fussy cat, who either tries something once and then leaves it or simply throws it up, so we had no expectation - wow he loves the origin Six Fish!He really seems to be completely addicted to it!So checked the recommended portions and we decided to put a small portion in his feeding ball - two weeks later he stills loves it, eats every spec, goes round the floor checking in case he's missed any (never seen him do that with anything before) at the same time he also doesn't overeat it, seeming to be satisfied & satiated - although if he runs out of them I'm the middle of the night causes a case of the worse noisy nagging. So we've tried out some of the other flavours and likewise he's very happy with them, tending to leave his previous dry food completely aloneMost unexpected and we're so happy to have found something he really loves to eat, and seems to be much happier cat

Six Fish Dog Food
5 November 2022

I got my Golden Retriever from a backyard breeder where she was living in a garage during the polar vortex when she was only 9 weeks old. Since the “breeder” didn’t know what they were doing, she is plagued by such a multitude of allergies that it took me literally years. She’s 3.5 and I’ve tried everything under the sun and finally had decided I was going to have to make her food for the rest of her life. But this Orijen Six Fish dog food works. I still have to give her Zyrtec, but that’s because she’s allergic to grass and other plants outside. But she is allergic to all meat of mammals and poultry. And I have tried novel proteins like kangaroo and alligator meat. She is like a different dog now. She has filled out and she is calm. She used to just whine and jump ... MoreI got my Golden Retriever from a backyard breeder where she was living in a garage during the polar vortex when she was only 9 weeks old. She used to just whine and jump incessantly because she was miserable. She used to scoot and lick her bottom and I’d even have to wipe her. Now she can poop like a big girl lol - on her own! No more stinky dog and no more getting violated at the groomer! Fish breath and fish farts are now part of my life but I will take them gladly because my pupper girl is no longer suffering!
