I bought this bag to do a hike in the Alps where I planned to sleep in huts and therefore didn't need to carry cookware, food, or a tent. It performed marvelously on that hike, but what I wasn't prepared for was how many other contexts it would come in handy. I most recently took it on a four day coastal walk. The climate was temperate enough to only need a sleeping bag liner, and with a friend carrying the tent, I was able to fit everything else I needed in this guy with ease. It makes me feel silly for how long I was relying solely on a 65L. Also, at one point something sticky was spilled all over the bag and I machine washed it out of necessity, and it bounced back 100% after the experience which I was thrilled by. Super happy with this purchase.

All the technical features make me feel a bit intimidated. I have no idea what all the little hooks and crannies are for. All this being said, the biggest game changer for me was its back frame.

Although the size XS/S overlaps with M/L on the size chart we had to return and order the larger size. The backpack arrived quickly so hopefully the second one will too and it’ll fit better!

Make sure you measure based on the size chart recommendation (measure from the nape of your neck to a spot on your back, about where your hips are). I thought the womens large would have been big enough for me, but the back was designed pretty small. I ended up going with a different Osprey pack in a mens large.
I was looking for a larger day pack so I could have one pack for bat research and devote my old Stratos 24 to SAR. The Tempest 30 is much lighter empty, but has a few nagging design flaws. The lid design does nothing to close the area from the harness to the main compartment. When bending or crawling in rhododendron, the lid flops and hits me in the head, even cinched all the way down. For lacking a frame like the Stratos, the Tempest back panel breathes pretty decent but is impossible to clean. I had so loved the idea of an external hydration sleeve! But this design never secures that space. The tiny fiddly strap that is supposed to secured the bladder is poorly located. It catches hemlock needles, dirt and sticks all day.
I was initially hesitant to buy this bag because it is a little expensive, but I have no regrets! It is a great bag. It's very comfortable and falls nicely on my back. It's a perfect bag for day hikes. I'm not sure it's big enough for an overnight trip, but it's definitely large enough for a day hike. There are many pockets and features on the bag that make it easy to use and very convenient. Overall great bag and worth the investment.

I use this as an everyday bag to replace my worn out Black Diamond 32L pack. I feel futuristic with this baby - I didn't realize backpacks were so fancy nowadays.Love: hip pockets. zipper pulls. easy-open pull tabs on the bungee cord. comfortable shoulder straps. adjustable back portion.Not a big fan: the top section of the adjustable back portion, where it rests against my neck, digs in uncomfortably when I'm biking. wish there were some small bungee clip mechanisms to keep water bottles from sliding out of the side pockets when I bend over.

The size is perfect for a bigger day pack and yes I do find myself bringing more with me.But it's perfect for when you need to bring extra layers on the trail. Excellent for work, cycling, traveling. For me, it's enough room for one overnight with everything, 2 nights making some sacrifices. Super comfy for biking although I wish the 30 came with the helmet strap.Love the hip belt pockets although the zipper is very sticky on those so I usually need 2 hands to open.The XS fits wonderfully (I'm tall but short torso) and I appreciate the modular fit with with the velcro. It is a very good backpack. It has space for everything, it is super adjustable and the back is wonderful! I am 1.59m tall and weigh 45kgs and chose the size ML. Super recommended, the color is very beautiful and it is specially designed for the anatomy of women.
