Bottom line- if they changed the wheel design and kept the same warranty, this would be the best bag out there.

After having two carry-on bags disintegrate on me, I decided to up my game. Mostly happy with this Black Hole beast. The fabric seems indestructible, and the wheels and handle are super robust.The way the top flap sticks out around the edges will take some getting used to – I assume it is to protect the zipper. I am also not initially in love with how the zipper opening is smaller than the dimensions of the bag – – you certainly need to reach in as you pack.One review mentioned the handle is a bit short. At 5’8” I’m not having a problem.Even so, no buyers remorse.

Pack portion is decent enough and I have had it for a couple of years with a LOT of world travel. Unfortunately the axle design is not well-thought out for weight up to the allowed max on airlines. Yeah, I know... Not smart. As the customer service person told me, a better design are on other brands where the wheel is inside of a supportive sheel frame which houses the axle... so that the axle is not able to bend. "We get a lot of calls with people who have bent axles." There are plenty of other more thoroughly thought out bombproof brands with axles which are supported on both the inside as well as the outside.

However, this process also caused the handle to now be inches shorter. In the case of my old 40l roller by about 3". Coupled with the bag being wider, one constantly hits the heel on their trailing foot now. We are now selling it on Craigslist since she has vowed to never use it again also.
I pushed the limits of the Patagonia Black Hole® Wheeled Duffel Bag on my latest adventure. After landing at LaGuardia, I skated 5 miles on my longboard in pouring rain while pulling this bag behind me. Through puddles and all, this bag was able to keep up! The wheels glide smoothly and my gear stayed completely dry! Having a lighter color bag, it get a few cosmetic scuffs and scratches, but no true damage to report. After this I'm beyond impressed. I think this bag is going to last me a very long time! It's a solid 10/10!
This size is all I need for up to a week of travel for most seasons - winter might be tight depending on activities.I’ll echo what others have said about the handle length. Another inch/two would have been nice for those of us close to 6’.And it’s hard to tell from the pictures but the bottom of the bag is not flat inside. The handle rails are raised under the think liner material (for ease of repair I guess). Just an FYI kinda thing.I have an og black hole from their first runs and it’s still going strong so I expect nothing less from this version.It would be nice, as others have said, if it came with a nice luggage tag as it’s quite expensive.
Got this wheeled duffel last minute before a 2-week trip through Japan. It served as my carry-on, and exceeded all my expectations. It fits in the overhead compartments easily, but can hold SO much stuff. I am a self-proclaimed luggage Tetris queen, and have to say I was shocked at just how much I could pack in. The interior straps help you synch down your contents, and I never had a hard time closing the zipper despite how full the bag was. And, the wheels and handle feel extra sturdy. Looking at purchasing another in a larger size for check-in luggage for future travel. Highly recommend!

Most recently I had multiple bags on the roof of the car during the dry season in Costa Rica when an unexpected storm hit us on a 7 hour drive. The clothes in the regular suitcase were soaked. I felt it was time to peruse the 100L. I could not find the bag online so I ventured into the Austin store and they informed me there was a good chance that the 100 L roller was no longer available. However the team in Austin started their search and over the next several days (it was late on a Saturday so the Atlanta store was closed and I was traveling on Sunday) they were able to track 2 100L rollers down and they arrived last week. Love its simple gray on black design. Do not love that the wheel assembly is poorly designed.I've taken this on around eight international trips over the past 18 months. The design is poor -- the wheels are housed on the outside of the bag with no protection, exposing them to the whims of luggage handlers at the airport. They also are weirdly high and exposed--great for clearance but also providing a large lip on two sides (bottom and back) that increases likelihood of getting bent (most times on luggage you see only one side of the wheel exposed - the bottom of the wheel). And the bolt used to secure the wheel it too light-duty for a heavy duty bag likely to be pushing airtport limits of 50lbs; the bolts should be double the diameter with the wheels exposed as they are (and, while I'm at it, for the price of the bag; I'd love to see heavier duty zippers for the main compartment while we're at it).Really wish this were a 'buy it for life' type of bag -- but fearing that I'll be pinging customer support for new wheels every 12-18 months (and also thinking I should keep a spare assembly and tools in my pack going forward).
