The pants held up well when there was a downpour of rain on our way up Mt. Snowdon. It was easy to put on / wear over my hiking pants. It continued to rain until we descended and my hiking pants were dry. The fit is perfect as an overgarment. It is not restrictive at all. I love the snap button on the lateral hem and zip for ventilation in case you get too hot. There are 2 zips. Opening the sides are bidirectional depending on how much ventilation you need. I’m 5’6” tall and is slim built. I got the XS size.

I am really liking these pants so far. Have worn them on multiple walks in the rain and they have kept me dry. I love the zip leg with the snap buttons on the bottom. I feel they do fit true to size, though I do need to use the drawstring to tighten them at the waist. But at 5'4" and ~135-140lbs, I feel that the extra small would be too small for me. My only complaint about these pants is the lack of an inside loop to hang the pants on a hook to dry them (I am forced to throw them over a door, or hang just from the back waistband, which i feal will wear the inside material after repeatedly hanging them this way)

These pants are a perfect inseam length (short) fit my legs exactly! The full length leg zippers allow for putting on and taking off, while wearing hiking shoes. I wear them over jeans so I ordered XL and they fit just right. These rain shell pants are the ideal complement to my Torrentshell jacket. The only thing I would like to suggest are riveted suspender buttons; 2 per side on the front and 2 centered on the back of the waistband. This way one could use any Y-yoke suspenders. The drawstring is a weakness, in my opinion. I had a hard time keeping the pants from sliding down as I walked. In wind and rain these pants, coupled with the Torrentshell shell jacket keep me dry as I walk in the Oregon rain.

I get it Patagonia is not a golf company, but these pants are way better than to $300 pants they sell to golfers.

I golf and coach golf in all conditions. I needed something to pack in my golf back that fit over my pants or shorts for when to weather changes quickly. These do an amazing job. They easily pull over my pants with my shoes on, and have great venting. I'm headed to Ireland for some golf there, so the real test will take place there. Thank you Patagonia for another great product.

Major leaking in crotch area.
10 June 2023

My first Patagonia product so I had high hopes. Purchased last year and had some light use. Finally wore them in some actual rain today and within 15 mins my crotch was uncomfortably soaked. Was not even doing any activity just standing. Basically useless as a rain pant given this experience. Fine for light mist I guess. Hopefully a one off. On an up side I contacted the Patagonia store and they said to return them for a refund or replacement. Hopefully just a defective pair. I will send them back for a replacement and report back but certainly disappointing as a first experience.

Men's Torrentshell 3L Rain Pants

These rain pants helped me to have a great trip to Alaska. It rained everyday except for one. They keptme totally dry in the zodiacs and on the hikes on different islands. The zippers made it easy to have some ventilation on the hikes. They were easy to put on and to take off. I highly recommend them.I had followed the size chart and ordered an XL but they were way too large so I exchanged then for the large size.

Not fitted for a tall slim person
24 May 2024

Only adding some comments here regarding size, in case it helps someone. Will update later once I try them in the rain. Only rated 3/5 due to poor fit (lack of a tall size). Will bump it up a star if they keep me dry.I'm 6'2" and 200lbs, usually wear 34x32 jeans (waist x length). The large was gigantic, way too big on the waist and very baggy in the legs. Exchanged for a medium, which are the right waist but too short. When my knee is bent 90 degrees, half my calf is exposed above my hiking boots. Expecting that water will get in and soak my socks if I'm caught in a downpour while hiking. If just standing or walking then the pants do reach to my hiking boots and I expect would keep me dry. Definitely wouldn't work for biking in the rain. HTH.

Not sure if they are really waterproof
9 November 2023

I bought these pants for my bike commute to work this fall. I rode to work in the rain twice (45min ride) . First time, I was dry but second time (very heavy rain), my dry-fit leggings i was wearing underneath were wet. It was 6-7C degrees outside so maybe it was sweat? Otherwise, the small fit me perfectly, i am 5'8" 140lb with very narrow hips. When i peddle the bike, the pants ride up a bit, I would have prefered a longer length and I have to tuck the bottom of the pants in long socks. They do make a swishy sound like other reviewers mentioned but it doesnt bother me.

Patagonia Torrentshell 3 Layer Pants
27 July 2024

I bought these pants for hiking in rainy conditions in Newfoundland, and they worked as promised, keeping me dry in heavy downpours. The quality is excellent, as with most Patagonia items I have tried. Sizing is generous enough, and the long side zippers makes it really easy to put them on and take them off while wearing hiking boots. They seem durable so far, and the outside pockets are also useful. I would definitely recommend these quality rain pants if you need protection in heavy rain.

Simple no frills pants that do the job

Was excited when Patagonia went to 3 layer construction - more durable, more comfortable, more breathable. And at this price point you'll be hard pressed to find anything else in three layer.I'd call them mid weight - still quite packable but not ultralight and also not super heavy for extensive deep backcountry useBut again they aren't designed with either use in mind - just a good daily driver.Fit is good I'm 30-31 waist and went medium which is about perfect for layering and movement. Again 3 layer, to me, is always the way to go and this makes it easy without breaking the bank.
