Amazing Shell!

I experimented with layers and can comfortably wear my Nano Puff with a base layer under this shell with no restriction of movement. The body is cut a little longer than the 3L Torrentshell, but I appreciate the extra length- especially in a downpour. My favorite features are the 3L Gore-Tex Active construction, the light weight and breathability- partly due to the pit zips and also the hood's adjutability. The chest pocket is nice, but the zipper opening is a bit small. I managed to get my large smartphone in there by angling it just right. The interior stretch pocket will be useful to hold gloves or a beanie. Though the jacket doesn't pack into itself, it does roll up nicely into its hood and since it's SO light, it hardly takes up space in my backpack and I don't notice it's weight at all. I got mine on sale so that was awesome. Also want to give a BIG shout out to Patagonia's AMAZING customer service as always! They are very responsive, friendly, and knowledgeable which is one of the multiple reasons I continue to buy their products. Keep cranking out the awesome clothes and gear!

Love my raincoat. I usually wear a S or M in clothes, but I chose an XL because I wanted to wear it as a rain COAT, not as a short fitted jacket. The small size did not cover my bum or hips from rain or cold, and did not have room for layering.I can now wear my XL with layers underneath in wet winter storms and be warm and dry. The hood fits well with a tab adjustment at the back to make it fit protectively around my small head. There is some sort of pull tabs inside the seam of the hood (near my face) that I can't figure out how to access or what it is for. I might have to take it back to the store and ask them how to use it! If I can make a suggestion for your next design of this coat: put a pocket or two on the inside for money or phone. Lovely coat. Thank you.

Wear a Patagonia small but sized up to a M to layer underneath on colder days. Bought the yellow for myself, the green for one daughter, and the light blue for my other daughter, and we get compliments everywhere! The yellow is Man with the yellow hat classic yellow. The light green is a very happy color. The blue is nice, too. These jackets have kept us very dry on dog walks during this usually wet CA winter! Zip pockets keep phone securely dry as well. The hood brim is also secure in the wind when adjusted and low enough to keep my glasses relatively dry is calmer rainy conditions. Arm pit zipper is excellent for ventilating when temps move into the 60s. 5 foot 6, athletic build. M fits with room to layer and sufficiently covers my bum.

Excellent jacket for rain both light and heavy.
15 May 2022

This is probably the best rain jacket on the market. My partner and I both have torrentshells, and they are true staples here in the PNW. Rain here tends to be light and mild, but when it's extra intense and just going on forever, our torrentshells are the only appropriate jacket. This jacket allows us to go on very long walks with our active dog while staying warm and dry the whole time. The hood is particularly effective in keeping rain out of the face and hair. It also checks the "incredibly affordable" box. It is our most important jacket we own. Thanks for another awesome product, Patagonia.

Loud, Narrow Fit, not for curvey women
23 April 2022

If you can move past the hideous sound this Jacket makes, it might be ok if you're a tall bean poll with no curves whatsoever. This is not made for normal women who has hips, a larger chest and a rear end. I have muscular thighs, and am a D, I purchased the Large, all measurements fell within my own measurement parameters, but the fit is way too narrow. The arms are too long, the bottom is too slim fitting, and the noise it makes! It sounds like you are walking on a mound of plastic bags! Very disappointing, and, they take $5 to ship it back? Patagonia, please research the average American woman and adjust sizes accordingly. This is shaped for a man. New favorite jacket!
23 November 2022

Jacket wicks water away and it rolls off and the jacket stays completely dry. It is thin, so great for a humid rainy day or to put layers underneath. Cons is only two pockets, wish they put at least a pocket inside, and it is a little noisy but not like your elementary track pants. The "noise" and slight stiffness of the fabric is worth how waterproof this thing is for how great it looks. To get this same type of waterproof quality you would be wearing those $5 rain ponchos that make you look like a trash bag. I know this will last me years and worth the purchase

Pit Zips are Useless
1 January 2022

I really can't understand how this jacket even made it to market because it's obvious that it was never field tested. It is nearly impossible to open or close the pit zips when the jacket is on. The zippers don't move smoothly and most of the time pulling the tab just tugs the fabric without the zipper sliding at all. The zippers are positioned toward the back so it's not possible to see the position of the zipper.... are they at the top the bottom.. the middle? Did it close all the way or open at all?Under ideal conditions - standing in my living room using both hands and with a little bit of luck - I can occasionally manage to open or close one of them. If wearing gloves or a pack or in windy conditions, forget that this jacket has pit zips or make sure a friend is always nearby that can zip them for you. It's not just me...I asked two other people to try using the pit zips. It was a frustrating and ridiculous for all of us.How does Patagonia miss such an obvious flaw? How can they charge five hundred dollars for something that lacks such basic functionality?I give it two stars because the material and cut is good. It did cut the wind and is breathable. Just make sure you have a friend around when you want to vent the zips. Or just pay half as much for a jacket from OR or REI that has similar materials and working zippers.

So Dry!
16 April 2023

This jacket is fantastic! I lost my old rain jacket and had to buy a new one for a concert at Red Rocks that was supposed to rain all night. This jacket kept me so dry! My friends with me were all jealous. In the past I had gotten <$100 jackets, I was reluctant to fork over the cash but it was so worth it. You definitely get what you pay for with Patagonia. I have two complaints, I wish it had the double zipper. I have wide hips and hate going up to the next size because then my upper body is swimming in the jacket also an XXL was not available at the store I was at and I needed the jacket immediately. I find Patagonia stuff is pretty straight and doesn't have much curve which is unfortunate for us curvy girls who want great gear. Curvy girls enjoy outdoor activities too and I think Patagonia can do a better job accommodating that. The quality of the jacket is superb, I just wish it had a better fit

Super Waterproof
16 April 2023

This is my second Torrentshell jacket. My last one was close to 7 years old. I'm an avid walker in the Pacific NW so rain is always imminent. I sized up because I usually wear a vest underneath for added warmth when needed. I love that this jacket covers my hips and that this newer version uses a heavier fabric. This jacket is well-made as well. I can tighten the hood and lower hem to keep the rain away from my body. I also appreciate and use all the pockets. In addition, the side vents are fantastic too, to allow for air circulation if I get too warm.

Women's Torrentshell 3 Layer Jacket XS
19 March 2023

Comfortable, light, high quality entry level rain/wind shell. Nice shape and does the job well. Highly modifiable hood, hem and cuff features to reduce entry of the elements. It only has the two low pockets; it would be fantastic if it had a chest pocket or internal pocket. The top of the central zip doesn’t have an internal soft-feel lining so can be a bit scratchy on the chin with long walks if zipped up the whole way.Love the Borealis Green, true to online stock photo colour.I’m 160cm and 48kg, XS is perfect with space underneath for a puffer jacket or extra layers with no restriction of the arms/chest.
