The perfect warmth for just about everything, Patagonia's classic Down Sweater is lightweight and windproof with a 100% recycled polyester ripstop shell and 800-fill-power Traceable Down (goose down traced from parent farm to apparel factory to help ensure the birds that supply it are not force-fed or live-plucked). Everyone else flocks to warm rock, relishing the T-shirt weather in the sun, but you're busy chasing early-season snow and ice. The Down Sweater's featherweight, superbly compressible warmth is for you. The 100% polyester ripstop shell on this down jacket does more than look sharp; it's snow-shedding and windproof. Details include 800-fill-power Traceable Down (European goose down traced from parent farm to apparel factory to help ensure the birds that supply it are not force-fed or live-plucked), stabilized with quilted-through construction, a contoured fit, a drawcord hem that tightens from inside the zippered handwarmer pockets and an interior chest pocket that doubles as a zippered stuffsack with a carabiner clip-in loop. Nylon-bound elastic cuffs seal in heat, and the DWR (durable water repellent) finish sheds moisture.

Wonderful jacket. Love the warmth, weight, and warranty on this jacket. Pockets are deep and has an inside pocket (stuff sack) as well. Long enough to keep your butt warm, doesn't ride up. It is true to size for the fit. This is my second Patagonia Down Sweater jacket as I hiked the AT with my first one and beat it up; sent it in for repair and was too damaged so they sent a credit to get a new one. Great company! Will always own a Patagonia as they put people over profits!

I wanted to hate this; the last thing I needed was another Patagonia jacket, but I loved it. Actually fits great in my usual Patagonia size. I didn't experience the "Michelin Man" effect some of the others have. I'm far from stick-skinny and it zipped and fit just fine over my hips. Perfect fit, in fact. Very comfortable and plenty warm today (low 30s, heavy clouds & rain). Packs down super small like all Pat jackets.

I love this coat and the color. Fits like a glove but I am a tall woman. The sleeves are long but perfect for me. My only concern is the fabric is thin and already got pulled from a buckle of my bag. I am losing some feathers. I'm uncertain of the longevity of the coat. I also wish it were warmer for colder months. It makes me nervous to get caught in a rainstorm too. So be prepared to carry a shell with you just in case.

I have had a down sweater for years, wore it almost daily in the winter and loved it dearly. It was a small , just like this one, but it fit better. It was shorter in the torso and slightly looser around the hips, more comfortable because you never felt you had to tug it down. Its pockets didn't have loops for tightening the jacket bottom in them. They were a better place to tuck you hands into. The zipper was sometimes unreliable, though. It's only fault. The new replacement I just bought does have a better zipper, heftier looking, but stronger and I am sure more trustworthy. The shoulder and arm fit is still wonderful but the longer and tighter hip fit makes me miss my old down sweater. I still love the overall feel, softness, weight, and warmth of this jacket. ... MoreI have had a down sweater for years, wore it almost daily in the winter and loved it dearly. Just sorry that Patagonia felt they needed to make changes. Sometimes a classic shouldn't be messed with.
Patagonia totally screwed up this version of this jacket. Used to have a previous version and it has changed a lot. The arms are SO long! They went past my hands by about 3-4 inches! I’m not going to keep pulling the sleeves up, so annoying and bizarre to make the sleeves this long. The torso also was really tight in the hips making it puff out in the chest area. Too bad this has changed so much as it used to be my favorite go to jacket for many types of activities. I returned the jacket.
On their website, Patagonia notes that this jacket "now has a trimmer fit through the waist, body, and hips." This is not true. It fits normally through the body and is weirdly, abruptly tight on the hips. I had to size up for my jacket to fit over my ski pants, so everything above the bottom four inches or so is baggy and puffy and weird. I don't know what fit models Patagonia is using these days but they must have uncommonly narrow hips and small backsides. In conclusion: the new fit sucks, change it back.
I had originally purchased the hooded version of this product in an XL (snychilla XL is perfect) but found it was just too snug, like it zipped but definitely was not comfortable. At the time Patagonia still had not expanded the sizes of the hooded version to an XXL so I ended up purchasing this product (which at the time was kind of a bummer). For reference I am 5'7" and 200 lb but I'm pretty athletic. I live in MT and the hood is gladly needed when that wind starts blowing. I will say though that there is a bit of a difference between the XL and the XXL. The XL is SNUG on me and the XXL is loose (I could wear three sweaters under it and be fine). That being said I was excited to see Patagonia finally expanding/dip a toe into the "plus sizes". That being said I was excited to see Patagonia finally expanding/dip a toe into the "plus sizes". As a woman on the thick-ish end of the spectrum it's always so disheartening to love a brand, their products, quality, see friends who love products, and be excited about them but then see them cut off at a Large or Extra Large. There are so many brands I completely avoid because I know their sizing will not include clothes for my body. We play in the mountains just as hard and enjoy/want the same quality gear. I wear this as my around town coat through most of the shoulder seasons and the winter as well as camping in the summer for those chillier nights. It can be not quite enough when temps get down to the teens but nothing a few under layers or shell can't help. I also wore this as my mid layer for skiing last season under a shell I also purchased from Patagonia. The combo kept me very warm for someone who constantly says "I'm freezing" on the lift although I will probably go with a synthetic for this season. Overall this was a good buy and I look forward to loving this piece for years to come.
Very happy with this purchase! I got this jacket before going to Colorado. I'm someone who finds 70 degree weather chill, so I was nervous I was going to freeze for a Peak hike we planned. We started before dawn and the weather was below freezing and very windy. I stayed warm the whole time, even at the start of our hike before exerting ourselves. If you're someone who gets cold easily, the down jacket over synthetic is the way to go!Also, I'm 5'7" and 115 and took a chance with the extra small. I'm happy I did because it's a perfect fit. Still room to layer too.
What I like is the bigger sizes which is useful when layering and needing to put on something warm for breaks. It seems few down jackets have offset baffles anymore, but I'm told to use an anorak to stop the wind. The zippered chest pocket is on the inside, which means you have to open the main zipper to get at it. Being used in quite cold weather, it would be nice to have the hood, so will be exchanging for the hooded version. Very nice blue colour. It compresses nicely to put in the backpack.
This is a phenomenal jacket! it is very durable out lasting a majority of my gear the newer version has more down and bigger baffles. I find mine keeps me warm without a sweater down to about -5 and with a sweater -10. Going in and out of stores and running errands this is a great jacket and it also does great on long hikes and trips. It packs down really small so you can keep it in your pack while moving and when you stop just throw it on to stay warm. Honestly cant recommend enough it withstood 5 years of absolute abuse from me and I just got another!
