I’m sharing my review, before I can fully test this, and plan to update. The system came with a faulty remote, it will not sure on. I called customer service this morning, they were very quick to order a replacement that should be here in 3 to 5 days. The man on the phone was very nice, and patient with me, the entire encounter was pleasant, and I cannot wait to try it fully, when it gets here. This system is extendable to 2 collars, allowing for multi dog training, on one system with the press of a button to switch it. The system is waterproof which is extremely convenient and has a 600 yard range which is quite impressive. I bought this collar before I became a chewy customer but decided to add a review here for dog owners who are researching training collars.I have been completely satisfied with my purchase decision.Support from the manufacturer is top notch. Replacement parts are easy to purchase from them and their customer support is knowledgeable and helpful about all their products. This collar has been helpful in training a surprisingly headstrong male golden retriever. We aren’t new to the breed. He’s the fourth over a span of 35 years, but... he’s very different from the previous ones. Smart and lovable but also surprisingly stubborn and strong willed to the point that 100% positive training methods weren’t quite enough to guide him to being a level mannered family dog. ... He’s come a long way with the use of this training collar. It’s important for a dog owner to understand dog psychology and be alert to cues such as facial expression and body language in order to be successful with any type of training or the use of a training collar. Static correction is to be used sparingly and never from the human standpoint of anger or frustration. If an owner is willing to invest the time and patience and calm temperament it’s a game changer in dealing with a dog who has a challenging personality.Although we *almost always* remove all collars from our dogs before allowing them to swim, this collar has *accidentally* gone in a pool many times without any damage.I would definitely purchase it again.

I decided to give it a try (a 'no brainer' with Chewy because of the fantastic way they treat us as customers (you know what I mean!).This collar loads with a small cartridge (so far it has lasted many weeks and no sign of running low yet....), and it is easy to pop into the collar and worked smoothly right away! The collar charged fast and stay charged for days (a good thing because I am always forgetting to charge it before going out and it says in manual not to let it sleep on the charger...so I am often having to wait for it before heading out. I'm on the sight now to try to buy a replacement charger so I can keep one in my car and charge on the way to the trail for the days I forget to charge it, but it does stay charged a long time). The look and feel is smooth and sleek on this new product.I have nothing but good things to say. It beeps, it vibrates and it sprays both low and higher volume spray (although really just a quick "shhhhst" to mostly remind them that "hey I am over here and I don't want you to pick up that thing on the ground so LEAVE IT!". It works! Every time!I read another bad review that said the product sucks and her dog "doesn't listen to the signals or even react to it"... I had to roll my eyes (sorry friend, I don't mean to laugh at you, but if you expect your dog to know what the signal means, you are asking too much of any product! ) It doesn't work like that. You have to train your dog to understand what the various signals mean. You first have to decide what YOU want them to mean.I decided - "Beep" means "Come to me"."Virbrate" means "Stop being so rough with your play" and"Spray" always means "LEAVE IT!" .... just like the spray bottle we have around the house to get her to stop "shopping" in near the trash can or 'table surfing' when we are eating.I worked with her to teach her each signal. I still work with her periodically to remind her what they mean. I would BEEP the collar at the same time I used my hand signal for COME! When we are training, especially at the beginning, I would carry amazing yummy high value treats (not just our daily's) and reward lavishly so that she always wanted to respond right away. I have since (mostly) phased out the treats and reward her with praise and pets and release.Working with a qualified trainer when you first start working on off leash skills is highly advised. It helps you be more confident which always translates into your dog trusting what you are asking and responding faster.I couldn't go the places I go and do the things I do with my dog without this collar. I am happy to pay the price for this re-worked and thoughtful design and I recommend it to everyone I see at the fun off leash places we go every day when they aren't confident enought to take their dog off the leash. If you aren't confident that you are IN COMPLETE CONTROL of your dog - then you SHOULD NOT have them off leash at all. You need to know that you can get them to come to you if there is an issue and that you are able to get them to disengage if they are having a problem with another dog, or person, or toy, etc.I will update this if I confront any issues in the future, but for now, I give this collar two thumbs up !

I bought this collar in June for my 90lb dog. At the time it was the only collar pet smart had, $190 and I needed it that weekend so I bought it. When it's charged it works well but it doesn't hold a charge for more than 2 days, even without use. Also, the device itself is coming unattached from the collar. I have a much cheaper version of a petsafe collar for another dog. It stays charged up to 2 weeks, depending on how much it's used. I would not recommend this to anyone. It was 4 times the cost of the cheap one that always works. I have a 90lb shepherd and a 90lb pit bull. Both are friendly but when you need the collar to work and it doesn't it's very frustrating.
I struggled with getting a training collar. I've trained all my dogs without the help of food or anything more than voice commands & praise. I have a super smart, eager to learn, and normally, very obedient Springer Spaniel. She is 3 years old and we now have jack rabbits, cottontails, deer and quail running through our yard. This is our 4th Springer so I completely understand running & hunting are in their DNA, but I needed her to return to me quicker than she wanted to lately. This collar is great! I needed confirmation on how to operate it before testing it out on myself or my dog. Customer service explained everything clearly so I was confident on using it. My dog responded to the "beep" by stopping immediately, looking down at her chest, then back at me. I ... MoreI struggled with getting a training collar. The 4th time I had it on her, I had the "vibrate" set to "1" and although she wasn't running that far from me, I pressed the button. It scared her badly. I haven't used that feature since. She responds excellent just having the collar on 😊
When I got this remote trainer I looked over all the contents and read though the instruction just to still be confused on what the weird black shaped object was for (I now learned it’s called Test Light tool). I figured out what the other items where that were supplied like the extra rubber charging covers and the longer points (which I assumed were for longer hair dogs) but the instructions never said anything about how use the test light tool nor how to change the points (even though it’s kind of obvious, others may not know that the points are not permanently fixed).I liked the colors and the smoothness of the remote but wished that the buttons were more prominent or raised up so that I could feel them better instead of having to look at them. I’d maybe also would like the buttons to have some indication of what they are for, like T for tone, V/S for vibrate/static correction, the bottoms on the sides either up/down arrows for increase/decrease levels and the other side button to show 1 / 2 so that I know that would be the button to use to switch to the other collar. I eventually remembered/learned which button was which though.I LOVE that it’s rechargeable. Years ago I had a different one that required batteries and every time I turned around I had to buy new batteries. The charging cord is all in one. Plug it in and it splits farther down the cord so that you have a connector for the collar and another connector for the remote to be charged.I do wish the correction box itself was a little smaller for smaller dogs like my Pomeranians.I like the option of getting another collar for my other dog and using just the one remote.I read the instruction and put two fingers on the points and tried it myself so I know what it feels like. I tried the tone, vibration and turned it to 1 static correction, it was a little stronger than I thought it would be and surprised me so much so that I dropped it into the sink….so I guess I tested the waterproofness at the same time. It works! ;) I would really like the tone volume to be louder. I could hear it but I’ve had an older dog that couldn’t hear that well and wouldn’t have heard it.As I put it on one of my Pomeranians, she held still but I kept clicking her hair into the clasp. I know they have to make the collar that way in order to adjust it for any size dog but I might figure out how to switch it to an elastic band so I can just slip it over her head to put it on or take it off.She handed everything pretty well. She acted nervous to move around and do anything for quite some time. She eventually got use to having it on and even laid down to sleep with it. I used only the vibration at first and then used the static correction only when she was so excited that she didn’t feel the vibration. She now mostly always responds to the vibration unless the doorbell rings.I like this form of collar vs a static correction bark collar because unlike this one the bark collar gives the dog a static correction anytime she barks but I allow them to bark only when they are playing around and their playing around is so spontaneous that I would hate for her to have a bark collar on vs this one so I can tell her when it’s inappropriate to act a certain way, even though it is a pain sometimes when I’m working all over the house and forget to bring the remote with me.We have not had the chance to test the distance it can reach since it has been an average of -10 degrees with wind-chill so we haven’t been outside but for the few minutes it takes for them to go to the bathroom. In spring/summer I’m sure I’m going to love using this as we go for walks and such!I have an advantage when it comes to this collar….if the main dog doesn’t do it, the 2nd dog then doesn’t either. So if the lead dog doesn’t bark (because I corrected her with the collar) the 2nd dog doesn’t bark either. Following the leader sometimes is a good thing.
Over the years I've owned 4 different remote trainers from PetSafe and while one would assume a product will continually improve over time that's sadly not the case here. For this particular unit, the battery life of the handheld controller is great but battery life of the collar itself definitely has room for improvement. Also, shock stimulation levels differ GREATLY from prior collars. I almost returned this collar because I didn't think the shock stimulation was working, it was only after attaching it to my leg and testing it that I discovered the shock IS undetectable until you reach level 5 or 6. With previous collars you could feel a slight tingle straight out of the gate at Level 1. Having said this, I'm not sure how the shock at the high end compares to the ... With previous collars you could feel a slight tingle straight out of the gate at Level 1. Having said this, I'm not sure how the shock at the high end compares to the collars I've had in the past because my dog is trained well enough by her previous experience that she quickly complies so escalation of shock level hasn't been necessary. If I were advising a friend or family member, I'd tell them to go to Amazon and see if they can find one of the older units for a reasonable price (i.e., no more than you'd pay for the current version). Specifically, look for the "Elite" or "Deluxe" training collars that have controllers resembling shrunken down walkie-talkies. One controller clearly looks like it's made of higher quality material (two buttons on the front - both buttons are the same color and one diagonally above the other with a dial to the right hand side that is used to increase correction level) and the other controller is mid-grade plastic (LCD window centered at the top tells correction level. Below the LCD screen are 5 buttons (1 green and one gray on one level, one yellow and one gray on next level, a red "+2" button centered below the other four buttons). There's also one other older version that has a really low quality plastic controller (sorry, I don't recall exact button configeration but can tell you there's a button to the left of the LCD and other buttons are below the LCD) and I don't recall the specifics of it's performance because it gave up the ghost almost as soon as the warranty expired. Wiped most of the memory of that one from my mind so can't tell you how it compares to the newest product, but I can tell you it was nowhere near as good as the two collars/controllers I've described in the previous paragraph. If you are unable to find one of the older versions, you could still make due with this one...it's just not the best they've ever offered.Good luck and I hope whatever you end up with you're pleased!
I pretty upset right now. This collar put my pup in danger. First let me say this is not my first Petsafe training collar. Thankfully I managed to get his attention otherwise and got him back. This collar states that it works as an add collar for all the different training collar including the 900. The number refers to the range. Collar has no range. You need to be right next to the dog for it to work. That defeats the purpose for range work. Second it states it's for large breeds yet the prongs are small. I feel this is not for larger dogs. This was definitely a waste of money. I have compared this to my other petsafe collar and it is clearly inferior for the job. I've included pictures of the comparison. The new collar is on the right. I've glued my old one back together hopefully it will hold for now.
We have a 5 month old beagle that is VERY rambunctious! She was all but uncontrollable when we walked her with just a collar and leash when we went for walks, even breaking a collar. We had to find something to help train her because all of our other methods were not working. My daughter recommended this training collar after she bought one for her 7 month old lab. We gave this a try and within a week, it proved an excellent tool to help her and us. Before, if we opened a door to go outside, she immediately ran to the street. Now, with this collar, a couple of beeps gets her attention and the word "Come," causes her to run right back to my feet. As much as I hated to do it in the beginning, a quick shock on number 1, taught her to not go beyond a certain point. I take it off each time we come inside and turn it off to conserve battery power. This charges quickly and has great range. Before using it, make sure to charge it for a couple of hours (the collar and remote). Also, before ever putting it on our dog, I tried it on myself to see how it felt. I used a number 1 and worked it up to number 5 and it will make you taste the shock. I highly recommend trying it on yourself so you know how your dog feels. Now, when I take her for a walk on my property, a quick beep gets her attention and she comes to me right away. I highly recommend this to anyone having a difficult time training their fur babies, especially the ones that are hard to handle.
I wanted to use the “tone feature” but it’s not doing the trick and I don’t want to electrocute my dog. Will try continuing training but I’d rather invest in a fence than shock my dog. Also… the company’s new policies are absolutely unacceptable and corporate should be ashamed of themselves. Enjoy the slow decline in sales, TS. More and more of my friends are farming these days and our business is going elsewhere.
