Bad. Didn’t get expansions

So I paid for the version of the game that comes with all the DLC and it got here and I saw it was a separate download from the game. That’s fine I can type the code into the PlayStation store that’s not a big deal. And then I see the code expired in 2017… for a game I bought in 2023… and paid extra to receive this added content. I don’t see how you can get away with selling this and labeling it as the full product when it clearly isn’t. I understand Bungie was the one that put the expiration date on it, but you as Walmart are selling them as if the code isn’t expired.

It is said this game cost more than half a billion dollars to make. That is an incredibly massive investment for such a really short game. Honestly, I still can't believe how short it is. It can't be this short, can it? The maps for each of only 4 planets (yes, only 4) are medium to big but are barely used. There are only a handful of core story missions for each planet and even these missions feel repetitive because they make you retrace over the same places you've already been. The core story makes it sound like you are embarking on a super big, long journey. Unfortunately this is not the case. You power through the few core story missions and after a few short hours find you have actually beat the game. Now all you can do is grind in the same areas which already felt repetitive way before because you've already retraced your steps there. It's pretty much like a small sandbox, and you keep grinding within this small sandbox, repetitively doing very similar things. The fun ends way before you realizedit. It really leaves you in shock and awe as to how a game this expensive can be so unbelievably short.

As you may or may not know Destiny was released a year ago with much hype and praise, the game was made by Bungie and released by Activision companies that brought us Halo and many versions of Call of Duty. The game itself is an online first person shooter and sees you and other players take on aliens gain loot take on more aliens get better loot and so on and so forth. At the original release the game was criticised for its rather lacking campaign/story and hugely repetitive mission structure, I had been expecting a space opera similar to the Halo campaigns and the multiplayer appeal of Borderlands but maybe I expected too much. That said the gameplay and the soundtrack was excellent, the graphics also fine but like the game Rage it did not offer much interactivity. The Taken King Legendary Edition contains the original game the two expansions (The Dark Below & House of Wolves) as well as the next chapter of the Destiny saga The Taken King. This version aims to improve the overall experience by reducing the amount of grinding that you had to (something that caused me to stop playing the game), change the levelling system back to the traditional method of gaining experience through missions/quests as opposed to mixing and matching your wardrobe to gain levels and provide more variety of opportunities to gain that experience by introducing more bounties, NPC quests etc. Now unfortunately I have not completed the game mostly because I have not reached the max level cap which introduces further challenges and quests and I'm far too anti-social to form a fireteam and attempt the raids (multiplayer events that involve up to six players taking on some of the more challenging enemies and levels). The gameplay mechanics themselves remain the same and is still very enjoyable and with the matchmaking system which can help you form smaller fireteams to attempt strike playlists (more challenging versions of the 'story missions') adding more ways to enjoy the game, the one wrinkle is the player vs. player component of the Destiny experience the 'Crucible'. The crucible tries to even things between new and existing players by negating levels however this does not affect the skills or item abilities you or the other players have gained, so newer players will struggle against those that have played regularly. Now is the game worth buying? Well if you enjoy the online experience of games like Call of Duty and Borderlands than yes especially if you have not played the original than yes; you are getting a lot of content, great gameplay and fun multiplayer component (if you can build the right skills and equipment). If your looking for a solo experience, great story and memorable characters than not really I would recommend Borderlands 2 it has similar gameplay and memorable characters as well decent humour (this along with the first Borderlands are now available for current generation consoles) or Dishonoured for its more engaging campaign and more varied gameplay. Thank you for reading and I hope you found this useful!

Time toilet of downloads and other issues!
19 March 2016

This has been the worst XBOX game I have ever bought. We bought this for my 11 year old for his birthday. My son opens the game and ecstatic about it. Put it in the Xbox, and guess what? Downloads needed. Not one download, but 10. Yes I said 10 downloads and updates- 3 hours later- which is a conservative estimate- the game was FINALLY loaded and ready to play. But wait, it gets better. You MUST have an XBOX live account to play this game. No big deal, I have endured two days of my 11 year old begging and pleading with me to help him play this, why not log in and get him to blasting evil alien bad guys. Another hour later, finally it loads and he is playing. But wait it gets better- My 2 year old turns off the console while they are playing and then the XBOX wont ... MoreThis has been the worst XBOX game I have ever bought. Several hours later digging into my XBOX and repairing the issue leads to "unrecognized disc" after reboot and hoping to play this game. I have tried all of the fixes- clean laser, clearing the queue, etc. etc. Nothing will work. Long story short- our XBOX works fine on every other game but this one. I have tried deleting all of the updates and starting over- nope, nothing will work.Overall impression: This game is ridiculously riddled with bugs, updates and problems- save your money for something else worthwhile.

[Rewarded Review] A fun but flawed MMO FPS Shooter

I first played Destiny when they released their open beta years ago and I really enjoyed it, but when the game was actually released I only heard negative to mediocre reviews about the lack of story and unpredictable, inconsistent loot system. After The Taken King dlc came out though, I heard it was the content that revived Destiny and I grew interested again. So I played the demo again and decided to buy the game. While TTK does improve on Destiny's story, add more cutscenes (but really only to the taken king missions), add more activities, and from what I've heard improved the loot system. That being said, the story is still pretty lean, the loot system is still weird (like being the highest performing player on your strike team but not getting anything after the mission), and there's still no matchmaking for Raids which require 6 people to complete. There are communities, websites, and apps to find other players to help find raid parties, however it's kinda sad that the Destiny community needs to do Bungie's job for them. It's not all bad though, there are a lot of grear points of Deating that make it well worth your time. Gameplay is amazing; music, sound effects, and graphics are incredible; I like customizing my guardian and have fun using the different subclasses, and the story though very barebones is still passable and opens to really cool lore, which you can learn more about if you read the Grimoire (codex that can be found through the game and viewed on Bungie's website or Destiny's app).Overall, I think Destiny is a grest game with flaws that Bungie is working hard to fix. Bungie knows shooter since they rewrote the book on FPS shooters with Halo so the mechanics are solid. It's kind of fun meeting other Destiny fans and playing with or against them, so if you think you would enjoy what I've been talking about then you should play it. Download the demo and play it for a few days to see if Destiny is your type of game, just realize that early story questions will not he answered in this game, but maybe in the sequel.

[Rewarded Review] Definitive Version - Cash Grab

I originally bought this game when it first came out (Vanilla Version). Then, the game had so much potential and was a little annoyed to learn that I had bought what felt like a bare bones game. Don't get me wrong, the game worked (you could play multiplayer, the missions worked, etc). The Vanilla Version also had some weapons that were only specific to that erase that can no longer be purchased, however the developers have tweaked those weapons to the point that they've become useless. It definitely makes the initial purchasers of the game feel betrayed when they've stuck with it and played those grueling hours just to get a randomly generated special weapon.I would only purchase this game when the price point drops below (I did through a price match). Then it makes a little more sense considering I also get the other 2 DLC that were overpriced ro begin with. Although it's an addicting game before this expansive edition, it doesn't justify paying ANOTHER $60 just to play it.

Even if you have more than one controller, the game only allows for one person to play. You need to have more than one console (Xbox or Playstation) to have more than one person play. A definite down-side in a house with multiple players. Also, this games takes a large chunk of console memory. If you have the opportunity to purchase an external terabyte drive rather than a Kinect or additional games, it would be worth it in the long run.Full review (for Xbox One)This is the second release in the Destiny title. The rating is Teen and it is a First Person Shooter (FPS). However, the violence is fantasy based where characters are killed using guns and special abilities. As a parent, I would say this is no more graphic than a TV show. Definitely appropriate for a Teen and even some pre-teens and more entertaining for the adult than some other game titles. The graphics and story is better this time around than the first. That may in part be due to the fact the foundation for the universe was laid in year one. If this is your first time through, you will be playing year 1 story and missions working to level your character up to the point you can play the newer missions. Depending on how much time you wish to spend, it could take a while to get to the new content. But, there is an option…New players and those with characters below a level of 25 can instantly level up one character to 25 to allow access to the newest content. This level up mechanism is a “Spark” which is made available to you in-game. Note, however, that your character will not have all the abilities unlocked that they may have gained through the traditional “grind” method of completing missions, bounties, strikes and raids. But, if you want to get right into the latest action with friends, this will get you there.Elements of the game include missions which advance the story and provide rewards the first time you play them to help you with the next story mission. Strikes are side missions focus on killing a specific target and don’t advance the story but give you a reward the first time you play them. These strikes are included in a special menu called “Strike Playlist” which will randomly pull from the strikes and set the difficulty for that strike according to the level listed in the play list. These offer a different set of rewards which are based on the difficulty and are known to you prior to selecting the strike. You can play it as many times as you like. There is a daily story mission and weekly missions that also provide rewards for the first time they are run. The daily resets each day, the weekly each week. Raids have a specific agenda like a strike and do not change. They advance the story to a degree in that the results of the raids play a role in future story. The rewards are given the first time you run it for the week and reset each week. If you need to leave a raid before you are finished (raids can take a while), your checkpoint progress is saved and you can enter back at that checkpoint any time before the next reset (thank you, developer Bungie!).The Crucible is player versus player multiplayer shoot to kill matches. Some crucible games are objective based, other are deathmatch where the objective is to kill the most players. There is no requirement to play any of crucible, though it does help to level up your character and it allows for a larger group of friends to play together.Bounties are tasks to complete that will gain experience points (XP) to level up your character. They often include some other rewards like glimmer (a form of game currency), weapons or armor, or the materials needed to level those items up.The game refers to fireteams which are 3 character teams. You can play with alone or with 3 friends. Strikes require a team of 3 and most will match you randomly with other members if you do not have 3 players. Raids and Crucible require 6. The crucible will match you with others to fill a team, raids will not.Overall, year two adds interesting story, strikes and missions to the game. If you are into science fiction you may find this enjoyable. The download content game additions that come over the course of the year help to keep the game fresh and interesting.

A new expansion to this game comes out in September called Destiny: Rise of Iron. If you are thinking about buying this game, I would buy the Destiny: The Collection for $60 and it will give you every map and be current with everyone who purchased Destiny a few years ago. I paid $37.00 for Destiny: The Taken King and just recently pre-ordered the expansion Rise or Iron for $30. So look at all your options before purchasing the game.

Actually, I would have given this 2.5 stars if I could.Bungie knows how to make a fun to play shooter, it looks great and the mechanics are fantastic. But that's not enough, there are two points I'd like to address.First, if you like a good, or even competent story in your AAA games, walk away from Destiny. Yes, the Taken King edition has added some late game story elements that are interesting, but it's all to brief, and if you want to get the most for your money and play the game from the beginning you are still stuck with the original story which is painfully bad, when it's even there at all.Second, since the story is so bad the game lives and dies on how much fun it is to play. The great mechanics make it a blast for the first two thirds, but they are hampered late game by the fact that you need to participate in multi-player raids and PVP to advance. If you don't have friends playing this game good luck with that. Bungie has done a horrible job in assisting "noobs", there are no chat channels, or in game areas where a first timer can go to start his first raid. Oh, you can use matchmaking to jump into one, but be prepared to have the more experienced players get angry at your lack of knowledge, or drop out because why waste the time explaining anything to the new guy. That is not fun, it's embarrassing and frustrating. The PVP Trials of Osiris is even worse in that you simply can't play it unless you have friends playing the game so they can form a Strike Team with you.I guess I'd recommend this game if you have friends interested in playing with you, you'll still be frustrated by the story, but at least you'll be able to participate in the full game. Otherwise, there are much better games, and specifically better shooters on the market.

[Rewarded Review] Well Done Game

I started with the FPS genre back in 1994 with Wolfenstein 3D. I haven't played much in the last 10 years though because I was getting bored with so much of the some old thing and the military FPS wasn't my interest.Destiny has brought me back to the gaming community. They have tried something incredibly difficult; merge the MMO and FPS genres into a unified experience. IMO they have done an excellent job. Whether you want to work through one of the several storylines, work on team play through quests, match up against other players in arena play, or just vent out the day's frustrations by making things go BOOM! then Destiny has you covered. It's probably the most fun I've had with a FPS since Quake II.The gameplay is smooth and the graphics are excellent. The ... MoreI started with the FPS genre back in 1994 with Wolfenstein 3D. It's probably the most fun I've had with a FPS since Quake II.The gameplay is smooth and the graphics are excellent. The servers have seemed reliable for the 6-8 weeks I've been playing. The developers have been good about fixing glitches. Because of the nature of the PvE and PvP styles, there's some "learn as you go," regarding game balance. However, looking at the (sometimes passionate) debates on the Bungie forums, I'd say they are doing pretty darn good.If you're new to the game and you need a strike team member to help on a mission, then my nickname is my xbone gamertag.
