As Good As the Legendary DN2, If Not Better

I've been a huge fan of the Deviate Nitro 2 and own three pairs, including the WTR version. The awesome PumaGrip makes Puma shoes ideal for running in rainy/wet conditions even though that isn't often in SoCal where I live. I wasn't sure if I needed to get the Deviate Nitro 3 when I still have plenty of miles left in the three pairs of DN2 that I've been rotating along with my other shoes. I also saw some mixed reviews when compared to the DN2, so I held off for a while. Eventually, the curiosity got the best of me and I decided to give DN3 a try and I'm sure glad I did because it is at least as good as DN2 although different in some ways. It is a bit firmer despite the increased stack height but the increased cushioning makes it better for longer efforts beyond 10 ... MoreI've been a huge fan of the Deviate Nitro 2 and own three pairs, including the WTR version. I don't consider this shoe a dedicated long run shoe like the MagMax Nitro. It's best for long mixed runs of easy warmups and cooldowns with tempo/threshold and intervals in the middle. It's very versatile like its predecessor but slightly more aggressive while being more protective for longer efforts. Overall, very happy with it and looking forward to more intense runs with the DN3. Built like a tank to last a long while as the DN2s have.

I really wanted to like these but 3 runs into them so far running 5ks each and they are uncomfortable and narrow for being true size. My legs felt fatigued quickly for doing tempo or easy runs each time I like to rotate shoes as I run. Current line up asics Sb2, Hoka Clifton 9, Saucony EP4, and Hoka Mach X. Unfortunately PUma DN3 just didn’t work out for me:(

Didn’t love last version, love this one

This is my new favorite shoe. The previous version didn’t agree with me (I couldn’t run very far in it without it aggravating sciatic pain). I really wanted for it to work because it was the best fitting shoe I’ve ever had. I don’t like the fit of this one as much, but otherwise the current version has been fantastic for me. It sounds like it’s not just me that finds differences between 2 and 3 - while the change was excellent for me, I know what it’s like to have a favorite shoe and the next version doesn’t work.

Fave shoe in my rotation!
5 August 2024

Absolutely outstanding for faster and even easy day runs. Fantastic cushion, bounce, and responsiveness; stable, very high level of build quality, and they look great also. I’m also running in SL2, Novablast, and Triumph as my rotation, but I’m reaching for Deviate Nitro 3 every time now. This is my first Puma running shoe in many years, I’m eager to explore the rest of the line; my understanding is Velocity Nitro 3 is also outstanding..

Great for a daily trainer
14 November 2024

I tried these shoes out for a trial run and put about 10 miles on them. They are comfortable all around with pumas great sole that provided plenty of grip during my couple of runs and the heel stayed put and I didn't experience any hot spots. These would work super well as a daily trainer/easy run shoe. They do have a modest spring to them but they just weren't enough for me since I am looking for a race day shoe with a lot of spring (just to note I weigh 215 lbs).

Great higher drop daily trainer.
8 November 2024

Very decent trainer. Fits slightly narrow but still tts. Can pick up the pace a little bit (strides work well) however, wouldn’t be my first choice for a tempo/track day. If you’re looking for a higher drop shoe for your rotation this is a great choice (10mm offset). Very comfortable at easy pace. Have taken 20k long run with no issues.

Liking it so far!
18 October 2024

Very Responsive, energy return is great but is quite firm unlike most other super trainers. No issues with stability or grip. Overall a good speed day shoe and looks pretty stylish. Fit wise, it is narrow but the knit upper can accommodate medium volume feet giving you a snug feeling, people looking at this shoe for their long runs may have to keep that in mind.

New favorite carbon trainer
13 November 2024

I’ve run in many carbon plated trainers over the years and this has been one of my favorites. The rocker is propulsive and hits my stride just right. Theyre not too soft but also not too firm that they cause foot pain. Love them!

Too narrow
25 October 2024

Bought these and had to return them because they were so narrow. I have never had a problem with shoes not being too wide and I personally enjoy my shoes to hug my foot a little, but I couldn't do it. With that said, the shoe felt pretty amazing other than that. I really wanted to love these but couldn't

What happened??
20 July 2024

I fell head over heels in love with the Deviate Nitro 2 early last year. It was my go-to shoe for everything but especially long runs. I was excited to try out the v3, but it is like a completely different shoe. Two miles in and the balls of my feet were killing me. Gave it a good week of all types of runs and it did not work for me at all. I’ve heard from heel-strikers that it’s an improvement over v2, but as a midsole/forefoot striker these were just little torture chambers for my feet. So disappointed
