I completely deleted the device and reinstalled the app, even after that trying to add the glasses again kept failing right after Bluetooth connection. After numerous attempts it suddenly worked. And man these glasses are ugly like hell! (Not Meta's fault, rather a Ray-Ban thing indeed). I am used to sports sunglasses for hiking or biking so maybe I am biased, but really sports sunglasses are so much better looking and much more comfortable.* Functionality is also a problem. Yes these glasses do everything promised and do it well. They play music surprisingly well given the design. You can take phone calls and participate in meetings just fine. They take reasonably good pictures and videos (slightly odd aspect ratio though, and they take too long before actually taking a picture, so if you try to snap a picture of a car crossing the road you will most surely miss). They can answer simplest voice assistant commands. But that's it, really. That's not a lot of use cases but could still be fun.I bought the Transitions model to have glasses that could adjust to lighting. This doesn't work well - the glasses never become dark enough to compensate for a bright sun in California.Bottom line - if these glasses were looking better (like sports sunglasses), had better dynamic sun protection, and were more comfortable for long time use, I would be a happy user!

I had great hopes for these glasses after reading the review on them in the WSJ. Unfortunately they have some deficiencies that fail to make them as useful as I had hoped. The biggest issue is that they will not consistently attach, or stay attached, to my iPhone 15 during phone calls. I had very much hoped to be able to use them to stay hands free during phone calls, but they drop too often to be reliable. The photo and video feature is cool initially, but the focal point is very much "instamatic/point and shoot" and cannot be adjusted in any way. If the subject matter is a person no more than ten feet away, it's a fine picture. Further than that, not so much -- a huge portion of the picture is foreground and there's nothing that can be done about that. Further than that, not so much -- a huge portion of the picture is foreground and there's nothing that can be done about that. Even editing/zooming/cropping once the photo/video is downloaded is unsatisfactory as the image is of such low quality that it quickly bitmaps. On the plus side, the WSJ's review's focus on the music/sound is spot on -- the quality of music listening is even better than AirPods, which is amazing since there is nothing sitting in my ear canal. Also on the plus side, the battery is very long lasting, and once low, charges very quickly in the case -- I had it down to 18% charged, put it in the case, and it was recharged to 100% in 7 minutes. I have no idea how many charges the case supports -- I've recharged the glasses from less than 20% up to three times without also recharging the case, and still did not seem close to discharging the case. All in all, I'm not sorry I have them, but they are more a novelty than a reliable tool at this point. Hopefully subsequent additions will improve things, especially the ability to attach and stay attached to my iPhone.

If they can pack this functionality into a smaller frame that fits my massive head they would be 5/5 for comfort.

These were pretty cool while they lasted, which was less than a month! The concept itself is cool, in theory, but the app is clunky and the functionality is limited ...unless you are willing to let META process all of your data, which I am not.The photos and video quality are great for any vertical format social media assuming you have plenty of light. Low-light situations are less than ideal but will work in a pinch as long as you're ok with grainy content. It's a little hard to get used to the camera being on the left side, but you'll get used to it, and framing can easily be overcome by simply closing your right eye when you start the videos. The durability isn't great, and I noticed a lot of scratches on the lenses and the frames with light use. I did drop them off the top of my head twice when leaning back. Unfortunately the 2nd time the glasses no longer worked and will not connect to the app anymore.I have ordered two more pairs to do some testing with over the next couple of weeks, so I'll update my review if things change, but at this point, I'd probably recommend waiting for someone to do this with onboard AI and all the processing performed locally so it's more private, which will probably be Apple. If Meta updates their software over time or improves things I'll let you guys know....The bottom line, it's not a bad deal for the price, assuming you're ok with the limitations and how fragile they are. I'll let you guys know if Ray-Ban or Meta replaces the broken pair I have now. I tried to file a claim on their website, but of course, I get an error when I try to enter the serial number that was entered directly from their app.

[Rewarded Review] Great glasses, needs improved Battery life

I have been a tech nerd for bluetooth sunglasses for a few months now. I bought some online from Amazon and was very pleased. When I saw these I geeked out and bought them. I then had prescription lenses put in them. I am very happy with them. I've tried to manually turn them off when not using them but it sucks to have to remember to do this all the time. I would sit at work listening to music with these only to have them remind me of low battery after a few hours.Overall - fantastic glasses but hopefully later iterations will have better battery life.

[Rewarded Review] Modern Tech Hidden in an Iconic Classic Style

I’ve had a few pairs of Ray Ban’s including the previous Ray-Ban Stories Smart Glasses. The quality has come a long way since the Ray-Ban Stories, which I was not very impressed with. These Meta glasses now have a metal hinge that works smoothly and holds their position. There are no mold parting lines that you can feel or visible. I am happy to say that the quality, look, and feel are now on par with your traditional Ray-Ban glasses. The Meta glasses look nearly identical to your classic Ray-Ban sunglasses aside from the thicker arms, which are needed for electronics, speakers, and batteries. I am happy to say that the quality, look, and feel are now on par with your traditional Ray-Ban glasses. The Meta glasses look nearly identical to your classic Ray-Ban sunglasses aside from the thicker arms, which are needed for electronics, speakers, and batteries. The arms are only slightly thicker, and the glasses are slightly heavier than standard Ray-Bans. Truly amazing considering all that they do with a battery no less. The engineers and designer did a great job on these. In use, it’s liberating to go for a walk listening to music or a podcast while still being aware of the dangerous world around you. I use my ear buds at home and in the yard, but I never like feeling isolated out in public. While the Meta glasses do not have the bass punch and sound quality of my ear buds, they are very good and so much safer. I feel it’s well worth the tradeoff. Unless you have the volume turned up, no one else seems to hear them. You can also take a call with glasses. And it works well. The touch controls respond perfectly. The only time I had a problem was when my hands were very dry on a cold day. Perhaps my skin was too dry to conduct well perhaps. The voice assistant works well and makes their use easy. The microphone always heard my commands without an issue. The camera works well with surprisingly good pictures and videos from such a small lens. The video is limited to 60 seconds unless you live stream. The microphone records all the sound around you and sounds very good on playback. The case is very nice, and the clip holds the glasses in place. The integration of the charger in the case is clever, no careful placement, fiddling or extra thought needed, they just lock in. The case also has its own integrated battery so you can charge the glasses with it on the go about 7 times before you need to plug the USB-C jack into a charger. The button has a color LED to show charge status. However, it is too large to comfortably carry with you in a pocket, you need to have a purse large enough. The batteries last longer the I recall on the last version, good for 4 hours of music with some pics and still going. However, a live video stream really impacts battery life. From the bit I did, I estimate the battery will provide about 45-55 minutes of live streaming on a full charge. More battery life would always be better. But the downside is the extra size and weight for larger batteries. The case provides a quick recharge time. They will fully recharge over a leisurely lunch. I think they found a good balance here with today’s battery technology. The Meta Wayfarers are surprisingly comfortable and light considering all the tech and battery in them. The battery life was decent at 4 hours, and they fully re-charged in a bit over an hour. These are much improved over the last version called ‘Stories’ which felt very beta. But unlike the stories, the meta version looks and feels much more like a polished product. I really like these and would recommend them to anyone interested in these features. These are fascinating gadgets that I find useful and fun to have on walks or sightseeing. I can envision using these on a recorded self-guided tour like, they have at Alcatraz in San Francisco.

[Rewarded Review] Smart glasses that don't make you look like a tool
6 September 2024

I recently purchased the Meta Ray-Ban Wayfarer Smart Glasses and I couldn't be happier with my decision. I am generally the guy who keeps everyone waiting on family trips or events as I take my pictures on my camera to preserve the memories. These glasses are a game changer as they allow me to take 80% of the random "everyday life" photos without having to pull out my camera. They have the iconic Ray-Ban design, and I appreciate how seamlessly they integrate with my daily activities without feeling intrusive or looking like a total tool wearing them. The Bluetooth audio is surprisingly good and clear. Look I'll be real with you. Are the pictures and video going to beat my DSLR camera - or even a high-end smartphone camera with someone knowing how to take great ... MoreI recently purchased the Meta Ray-Ban Wayfarer Smart Glasses and I couldn't be happier with my decision. No. Is the Meta AI going to blow your socks off with what it can do? Not yet... However, for what they are: Smart glasses that can take everyday photos (especially for social media) videos, with decent/capable audio stereo speakers, and AI capabilities that can respond to what you are currently looking at, their performance has exceeded my expectations. These smart glasses are definitely something to consider. 8/10

[Rewarded Review] Stylish and Nerdy
8 December 2023

I mostly purchased these glasses to solve two problems for me:(1) Have a quick and easy way to take pictures/videos of my toddler whenever he's being cute. Cause a lot of the times when I struggle to get my phone out of my pocket the moment is already over. These glasses allow me to accomplish this with a quick press of a button on the side. Although I must admit that picture quality does not compare to a flagship phone.(2) Have the ability to listen to music privately wherever I am without having to remember to bring earbuds. I already carry my phone, wallet, keys. I don't like having to remember to bring earbuds with me. So when I am in the waiting room of a doctor's office, I pleasantly remember I can start listening to music just from wearing glasses. I already carry my phone, wallet, keys. I don't like having to remember to bring earbuds with me. So when I am in the waiting room of a doctor's office, I pleasantly remember I can start listening to music just from wearing glasses. Sound quality is surprisingly adequate for being glasses and not requiring to insert anything in your ear. But my wife does tell me there is some sound leakage.Because these glasses allow me to accomplish these things, I'm happy with my purchase. And I have always liked the Wayfarer style. However, for being the Large size, I was expecting them to be a little bigger. As for the Meta AI, I really don't use. The mic allows me to communicate with the Google voice assistant on my phone, so if I needed to use any voice assistant it would be Google and not Meta. The only thing I really ask Meta is battery percentage.Speaking of battery, I'm a bit disappointed. As I mentioned above, I wanted these glasses mostly for the two things I mentioned above which are situational. There are some days where I don't come across these situations, so I don't take pictures nor listen to any music with the glasses. Yet the battery is constantly draining throughout the day. It would also be nice if there were more options to charge them other than having to buy an extra charging case.

[Rewarded Review] Terrific Audio. Great for sensitive ears
31 July 2024

I have major ear issues and get multiple ear infections a year. Gaming headsets and ear buds make this happen more often. After seeing reviews from people with sensitive ears, I decided to try these out as an option for when I'm gaming with the kids on their twitch streams. While recording with the glasses, ambient sounds around you are freely picked up. As a microphone and sound option, they act as they do for phone calls and only use the nose piece microphone. The sound isolation created by that is insanely good. The kids can now hear me on stream clearer than with any other audio solutions we've tried in the past. I can hear them and the game audio clearly, while still hearing stuff around me.My family is so impressed by how well done the audio is that one of ... MoreI have major ear issues and get multiple ear infections a year. Only negative is they are HUGE on me. This is not unexpected as I wear just barely above a child's size in glasses, so most sunglasses and "standard sizes" are much too big for my face. They're still comfortable, if not a tad bit heavy, at that size. Battery life could be a bit longer, but they do recharge quickly. If you're on the fence, I highly recommend trying them out.

[Rewarded Review] The perfect smart glasses reviewed by an Optician
25 April 2024

Let me start by saying I am an optician with over 20 years in the field. These are first and foremost, a high quality pair of glasses before you even address the smart features. The sizing, fit and style is not much different than the traditional Wayfarer, which is already a beloved and classic style. The temples are a bit thicker, and it weighs a bit more - but all of this is forgivable when you consider what else it is packing! I sell sunglass frames for twice as much as these with less style and ZERO tech features. A non-smart Wayfarer sells for $180, and for ~$100 more you can turn them into a computer for your face! The value here is unreal! It is prescription lens compatible with a wide range of prescriptions as well, however please be aware that you will void ... MoreLet me start by saying I am an optician with over 20 years in the field. The value here is unreal! It is prescription lens compatible with a wide range of prescriptions as well, however please be aware that you will void your warranty if you don’t get your lenses from an authorized retailer (Lenscrafters). The features are wonderful, and although I dont use the camera for much more than pictures of my kids and dogs, the audio and AI features are incredible. The AI is top quality compared to the competitors, and interacting conversationally rather than by text is a game changer. The audio quality is very good, but not as good as a nice pair of earbuds, but having open ear audio available in your glasses is amazing and does not isolate you in the same way as your earbuds would. Overall, a great product, with nee features being added all the time, and a solid step in the right direction for wearable tech! Can’t wait for version 3 in a few years and to see where meta and ray-ban take this partnership in the future!
