I needed a more durable shoe than the Alphacross 5 for work so I purchased the XA PRO 3D 9 Goretex. This is the durability I was seeking, the ankle stability it great and I love the quick lace. No more having to tie my shoes all day. I think the fit and over all comfort is superior to my Alphacross as well. I’m super happy with these!

Great shoes out of the box, well designed, not flashy, super comfortable. Got these for a trip to Europe which would involve a lot of walking, city streets, gravel roads, trails, etc. They were awesome for the first few days, I could walk in them all day in total comfort, and they looked good! Then one day on an early morning hike I walked through some wet grass, just dewey morning grass, not full soak water crossing, literally a damp morning dew on short grass...and within a few minutes I could feel the moisture seeping into the shoes. Not a ton of moisture, but my socks were definitely wet when I took the shoes off later. That was not a big deal to me. They were still comfy and looked good, I could deal with some moisture in my shoe. But then the smell ... MoreGreat shoes out of the box, well designed, not flashy, super comfortable. The thing that makes these unwearable is the smell that occurs after any moisture enters the shoe.....a horrendous ammonia/cat pee odor!! Like wow do these shoes STINK!! I can no longer wear them, they just REEK of cat pee, I've tried cleaning them, removing and replacing the insole, nothing works. They just STINK. And this is not the first time this has happened with a pair of Salomons, I have thrown out another pair that also suffered from this cat pee smell issue. It's definitely NOT my feet, or my socks, or anything to do with my own personal body odor, it is these shoes, something in them just REEKS of cat pee after any kind of moisture enters the shoe, and no matter how careful you are with drying them out or cleaning them afterwards, they will continue to STINK FOREVER! This is the last pair of Salomons I will ever buy. Just not worth the money for less than a week of wearing. BUYER BEWARE!!!!

Been wearing XA pros since their inception; as a running or adventure racing shoe I prefer the newer speed cross, or x-ultra 4 mid for burly mountain sections, but these in jet black are the go-to daily work and office shoe. Comfy, breathe well, and the all black lets me get away with them in the office. 4 star as I feel the sole is a bit flat and harsh if wearing as a runner/fast hiker.

I bought the shoe a month ago. Really comfortable once they are on!!! What struggle to get them on. Can only be done with a shoehorn. I have had 5 pairs of Salomon shoes and they have all been great except for the way the tread wears out quickly. The new ones are almost impossible to get on. Such a shame you changed the design so much.
I've had 4 different shoes from Salomon over the years, I think the first pair I got was back in 2011 or so? I've always loved them. I wear size 10 in EVERY shoe...except Salomon. I've always worn a size 10.5. At my mistake, I threw away the packaging for these shoes before I could even think about a return. The shoe looks GREAT (in blue) but after a day or so of wearing it, there's just too much movement. It's almost like it's a size 10 and 3/4? Is that a thing? It is now. Ha! I don't mean to bash but just being honest. It's my fault but pretty pricey mistake on my part. I wish I had tried on the size 10's but again, I've never worn that in Salomon. I might try & sell on FB marketplace. I dunno. Thicker socks in the summer are never fun. Been through 4 pairs of these over the last 20 years. Recently Ive tried newer brands with fancier soles, to find them wear out too quick or turn my ankles with sponginess.Spotting the yellow XA’s,I found them irresistible. Beautiful. Done deal.Within days of being reminded that Salomon fit my feet perfectly, the utility (walking, cycle commuting, not muddy offroad running, hill walking with sticks, tramping around ski resorts) I ordered a second more sensible black pair.
I bought these to replace my beloved, very comfortable Ultra 3. Unfortunately, these shoes have a narrower tip, meaning my big toe was squeezed despite the wide fitting. The shoe seemed to push my feet forward, creating a tight uncomfortable feel at the front while the back was flopping. These are very sturdy, perhaps a tad too much - absolutely no flexibility or shock absorption on the soles which felt like they were made of wood. Luckily, Salomon provided excellent, exemplary customer service and agreed to refund. The shoes are high quality, well made with excellent materials but really did not fit at all with my unique shape of feet and did not compare well in terms of comfort with the Ultra 3 which had a roomier toe box even in the standard fitting.
I've worn numerous Salomon trail shoes, road shoes, hiking boots, ski boots for 23 years. Quality has always been good and fit has been reliable until the last year or so. Unfortunately the new XA Pro 3D V9 runs about a 1/2 size small. This is no problem for most-just order up a size. But for me and other bigfoots it's a problem. I wear a 13 medium. There is no 13.5 so I'd have to go up a full size. The 14 is too large so I'm out of luck. It's already a challenge to place these battleships on ledges, steps, rocks ,etc. Imagine adding 1/2" of space in front of your toes. Otherwise the V9 is more flexible than the V8 so needs no break-in. The lace garage is generous and easy to get the lace in vs previous versions and other models of Salomons. Can't say that it will ... MoreI've worn numerous Salomon trail shoes, road shoes, hiking boots, ski boots for 23 years. Can't say that it will stay in as I only walked around the living room for 90 seconds. Tread is standard Contagrip. Cushion feels moderate. Support is good w/ minor lateral twisting. But they are too short! I'm stocking up on earlier shoes and hoping that Salomon goes back to previous sizing or introduces a 13.5.
I bought an older version of these shoes about 5-6 years ago and loved them. These newer ones feel like they don’t have the same grip the earlier versions had. That said great toe protection, strong shoe, and still one of the better shoes for hiking out here in Colorado. Built well and will last many years.
After having hiked only 40 miles on the Timberline trail in Oregon, holes started appearing in the creases of the outer fabric. After a total of 150 miles after doing the TMB, the proprietary shoe lace started to fall apart and cut into the shoe lace loops. I won’t be wearing these anymore and having spent $160 for a hiking/trail running shoe, I’m extremely disappointed. I have owned a lot of Salomon shoes, , including several X Ultra 3s that are still usable after 3 years/450 miles. When I first received the shoes, I had my reservations about the outer material as it’s stiff and not flexible in the areas that bend a lot and form creases. Never had a shoe fail like this on me.
