The XA PRO 3D are trail shoes which have been designed for running in harsh conditions and wetter trails. The SensiFit upper comfortably encloses the feet and is made of durable material which can take a beating. The upper is highly breathable and knows to wick away moisture from the inside to the outside. The Quicklace system ensures an excellent fit and ensures that the laces don't loosen up during your run. The EnergyCell midsole is made of EVA material. This cushioning material effectively attenuates shocks and divides the pressure over the feet. It also returns energy with every step you take and offers resistance to impact shocks during trail runs. The Ortholite sockliner offers extra comfort. The 3D Advanced Chassis, found in between the midsole and the outsole, offers a lot of protection and stability to the feet. The Contragrip MA outsole is very durable and offers excellent grip on wet and loose undergrounds as well as on dry and hard surfaces.

I'm an ex-football, ex-triathlete (think Clydesdale) weighing in at 235lbs. and 6'2" tall. I've had four knee surgeries (due to mostly to football, but the ultras didn't help). I need a shoe with both great stability, but also cushiioning and comfort. I currently use the "mid" version of this shoe (my personal preference), but the low top meets all the criteria above. If you are a big person, or even small one who needs truly great stability without sacrificing comfort, this may be te answer to your prayers?! BTW, I've been an RRSports fan since it's inception, yep 1983, and yes, I'm old too . . . "When I get older" OLD!

I bought these to replace some X Ultra 3 shoes on which the laces kept on pulling through the front eyes. So far the XA Pros with a different lacing are not showing signs of that. These are as comfy though could do with being a bit wider. As with other Salomon shoes, a half size up from normal is needed.

These are the second pair of these shoes I have bought. The first were Gortex waterproof. I didn't feel I needed these for the second pair. They are a little lighter and cooler than teh Gortex pair so good in the heat. That said I walked the Camino in the others and they were fine.Very comfortable, good grip on wet and slippery surfaces and firm sole to prevent sharp stones/rocks pressing through the sole. They support the sole well and are a good average width fit. They do come up a bit small as I am normally a 8.5 but have gone for a size 10 this time.A good colour and style and can be worn as a casual shoe/trainer as well as a functional walking/trekking show. Would wear on tough trekking such as Snowdon.

I bought these to use mainly as a light weight summer trail walking shoe (as my Salomon 4d Gtx boots are too warm in summer). The XA Pro is a good quality trainer, with grippy sole, a snug fit and nifty quick release laces. My feet got quickly soaked on a damp morning woodland walk through long grass, maybe the gtx version would’ve faired better- but hey, you expect to get wet on a drizzly walk! After a couple of 6 or 7 mile trail walks, involving some stoney sections, I realised Ineeded something with a bit morerigidity/protection in the sole than the XA prohas - but that’s on me.
I bought this a month ago, and I really have enjoyed wearing this shoes. It fits very well. It feels like that I am not wearing shoes. I may overreact, but I used to wear cheaper shoes, so my impression on this shoes is just perfect for me, and the best shoes manufactured for me. One thing I am worrying is that the shoelaces seems weak, so I am gonna keep watching it whenever I tie it up.
I have just bought my 4th pair of these. They are the most comfortable hiking shoe I have ever owned. I currently have these and the GTX with the GoreTex lining which gives some water resistance. These ones are not waterproof but much more breathable however if you walk in soft sand they will fill up with sand! They wear well in the UK but less well on abrasive surfaces. Grip is excellent on all terrains. They are a narrow fit and I need one size larger in EU size than my usual shoes.
I wear a size 9 but bought a 9.5 locally because I am wearing liners with my hiking socks. Felt great but I was worried they might be too tight a week into my 500 mile hike due to swollen feet. So I ordered another pair from Moosejaw ($30 less than I what I paid locally) but this time in a size 10. I immediately noticed the arch support felt like it was too close to my heel, there was some pressure in back portion of my arch that I did not feel in the 9.5. After buying these I realized breakage of a lace in the middle of nowhere could be a bad thing. There are examples on the web of people breaking these "kevlar" laces. There is a repair kit (new laces for two shoes and the parts) for $8.50 that you might want to get if you will be using these in places where ... MoreI wear a size 9 but bought a 9.5 locally because I am wearing liners with my hiking socks. So after breaking the shoe in, the arch discomfort is no longer noticeable. When I complete the 500 mile walk I will add another comment if there was anything I was unhappy about regarding this shoe. My order was processed and shipped quickly and accurately, Moosejaw is a good company to work with and I like the little "dividends" I get with each order.
Just received and completed first hike with these, my first Salomons. Great looking. Appear to be very high quality. Modern lacing system real nice.I did fast five mile hike for initial break in. Shoes seemed very very stable and breathed well. Comfort seemed great. They are a bit stiff compared to a soft running shoe, but they are new and heavy duty for trails. More later.
These are my fourth pair of Salomon XA’s .......there’s no need to own another outdoor adv. / hiking shoe for me. Most shoes I’ve tried in this category are toast before the first year is up. My last pair still have a pulse after a year and a half, they’re just cosmetically challenged after a hoise painting project . Time for a fresh pair !
This is my 5th consecutive pair of XA Pro 3Ds, and there is simply no other multi-use shoe for me. Hiking, trail running, around town, this shoe can do it all. I've also fund that Salomons tend to run more narrow than other brands, which fits my foot well. I've typically gotten 1.5-2 years out of each pair of XA Pro 3Ds. Excellent shoe!
