I just installed this puppy, recovered my OS in less than 2 minutes (about 30GB compressed/100GB uncompressed) and I'm up and running. Ran CrystalDisk and it pegged reading around 6850 and writing just under 5000. I cannot get the theoretical fastest speed in the real world; copying from another NVMe only yields about 3000, which is still plenty fast enough (it might be a shared bus limitation or the speed of my other NVMe). I copied 50GB of large files (2-8GB each) to it in 18 seconds. Temps run around 45c idle, the max I saw is 56c under heavy load. The heatsink does a decent job, but I was hoping it would run cooler than my other NVMes that have aftermarket coolers. They all run between 42-47 idle. Overall, I have nothing to complain about. Finally got my hands on the Samsung 990 Pro PCIe 4.0 NVMe and I am super impressed! I have always been a huge fan of Samsung SSDs and use them almost exclusively in all my computers/laptops. So the first order of business was popping it in my external enclosure and getting an idea of the speed and testing it out, I loved what I saw so much I immediately cloned my main SSD in my new PCIe 4.0 capable laptop and swapped those drives out! As with any M.2 drive the install was super easy and is usually just popping it into the slot and screwing it down. As for setup, I used a cloner to clone the OS and main drive to the 990 Pro. The laptop was already fast before the Samsung 990 Pro but it's smoking fast now, probably the fastest laptop I have had to date! The Samsung ... MoreFinally got my hands on the Samsung 990 Pro PCIe 4.0 NVMe and I am super impressed! For me I am using this as my primary drive in the laptop going forward as that's where the video editing happens!

Now THIS is a drive. I've been a huge Samsung fan since day 1 and have their early 860 drive in my office PC. Well I really needed more space and this was a perfect upgrade. Packing and installation is simple like any other ssd, and the Samsung software you can use for cloning a drive is great. I could tell my bottleneck was my old SSD and once I booted up windows I could tell a difference honestly. I usually have multiple browsers open for monitoring and can use over 50gigs of ram between all my applications and this new gen 4 drive really made things feel snappy. Temperatures seemed fine as well as I moved data off this drive onto another drive. Copying files over 10gb ethernet from our backup NAS cluster was very quick and I'm excited to take advantage of this in ... MoreNow THIS is a drive. I'll probably pick one up for my home pc since I have an old mid tier pcie3 drive in it.
Samsung has hit yet another home run with the 990 PRO. This Gen4 NVMe SSD delivers top performance and reliability for gaming, content creation, or any other demanding use. Game loading times are blissfully short, Windows boots up in a flash, 4K video editing is a breeze, and browsing through my massive photo collection feels instantaneous.Samsung’s Magician software is easily the most comprehensive among SSD manufacturers, and the company has a long track record of updating their drive firmware whenever the need arises. This level of support gives me peace of mind and is something you just don’t get with cheaper brands.Overall, the 990 PRO is a premium SSD in every way, and I’d recommend it without reservation.
I have to admit I was a little skeptical with the hypes and must haves of getting an external memory for my PS5. Much to my surprise, the Samsung 990 PRO w/Heatsink PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD did not disappoint and exceeded my expectations in every way. I actually started to run out of memory on my console due to the next generation games that requires enormous amount of available hard drive space. Initially, we got this SSD for our gaming PC but decided to try it in our video game console as well. The results have impressed us so much that we’re now planning to buy another 990 PRO to get the best possible experience from both devices. It was very easy to install the SSD, only a matter of minutes from start to finish. After we powered everything back up, the system immediately recognized the new drive. The console's speed test showed the drive running at 6561MB/s, which is more than 1000MB/s faster than the suggested minimum. The 990 PRO works perfectly inside our console, and the massive 2TB capacity lets us keep all our games at the ready, with room to spare. For $199 plus tax, I would say the 2TB Samsung 970 evo plus is really good for it's price. It's a better value than sata ssd's of the same value and price. It's a couple less cables to deal with which is nice.Arrived pretty quickly and box was in good condition, barely any scratches or scuffs. Unboxing it, you get the drive itself; I was very surprised to see how small NVME really is compared to SATA.Installation was relatively painless; make sure your MB has an m.2 slot that supports pcie 3.0 x4. I used windows disk management to format the drive and used samsung migration to move OS and all my data onto this new drive, then downloaded samsung magician for further utility. I used windows disk management to format the drive and used samsung migration to move OS and all my data onto this new drive, then downloaded samsung magician for further utility. I recommend downloading the NVME driver from samsung's website as when you install the drive for the first time, it uses microsoft's nvme drivers. Downloading the samsung drivers provided a small boost to all stats as seen above.Drive runs relatively warm but not hot with my use. It idles around 45-52c and when gaming, it's between 55-65c without a heatsink on it.Gaming on it is a beast, load times are very fast and very little stuttering in games, especially compared to HDD's and Dramless ssd's. Downloads are very fast as well. One thing to note, it's been know samsung has made revisions of their 970 evo plus drives to have the elpis controller which is found on the 980 pro; that has slightly worse sustained writes when doing heavy workloads. My 2TB which has P/N MZVLB2T0HALB, has the old phoenix controller which is slightly better all round, drive was made in 2021 11 03 in Thailand.

I had to make the tough decision on which of my devices would get to have the latest Samsung SSD first. I have had all the previous ones and they're still rocking like the champs they are.I decided to add it to my gaming rig so I upgrade its other components to match up to the 990 Pro's prowess. If you want to take full advantage of its 'magic', make sure that you install a heatsink. Otherwise the label heat spreader it comes with should be well enough for non-heavy gaming/video editing.I have a few PC's with a 980, 970, and an 860 and I have to point out that even though the 990 is extremely faster than its predecessors, it is more power efficient.
