But if I'm filming something that needs to look sharper and less filmic, then I can use it as-is.The Samyang would suit some circumstances, but not all - and right now, working in the field as a one- or two-person crew, without a massive budget, I'm more inclined toward versatile gear.

This tally light can be helpful with professional talent, but with documentary style shooting, it can be an extra intimidating factor. So, just make sure you have the Lens Station to provide the proper adjustments and updates that these lenses really need.

I purchased the first three lenses in this line with an eye on using them for gimbal work with the Sony FX3. They have not disappointed. Their uniform size, color cast and weight, combined with their solid optical quality and AF capability (more on this in a second) sets them apart from a crowd of what I can only judge as poorer choices. I'm often on this focal length for walkaround gimbal work, but I know that I can quickly change lenses at any moment without having to re-balance. I have also found that stopping down to T/4 or so results in very crisp images, so I tend to aim for that when situations allow, but they are still fairly good wide open. Now, do they suffer from some imperfections? You can Google 'em yourself. But, I'm not bothered by any of that for all of their many strong points and real-world shooting performance in my experience. Basically, they all look great to me, and the 24mm is especially so.Importantly, I do recommend getting the Samyang Lens Station to be able to upgrade their firmware, which does change regularly. You can also use it to deactivate their onboard tally lights individually if you'd like. It's a cheap accessory, and it's pretty important if you have these lenses.So, about that AF... A lot of folks online seem to think it's too slow. I disagree, as these are intended to mimic manual focus pulls out of the box, but that's really neither here nor there if you get the Lens Station. Because you can adjust focus speed using that accessory, too. So, consider that a tuning device to adjust things to your liking with these lenses. Since being able to do that is not something that's typical of most lenses out there, I think it's important to mention and suggest.If you're a Sony FX3/FX30/A7SIII user, or even a user of other E-mount models, and you find yourself on a gimbal regularly for your work, these lenses are uniquely capable of improving your workflow and consistency. I'm glad I have them!
