The Beta Fuel gels each provide 40g of carbohydrate with an enhanced 1:0.8 ratio of maltodextrin to fructose. This new and improved formula increases your body’s carbohydrate usage efficiency, and limits gastrointestinal discomfort to deliver a scientifically superior fuel. Directions for Use Depending on your sport or event, you should aim to consume 1-3 gels every hour during exertion to reach an 80-120g target intake. In some circumstances, such as cold weather, it may be necessary to consume more. Simply tear off the top of the packaging and squeeze the contents into your mouth as and when required.

Highly recommend as a fuel source for any endurance activity. This is a great way to get clean carbs and nutrition into your system very quickly without having any sort of stomach issues. I used a mix of these and regular SIS gel packs during 150 mile gravel race And I was completely nourished the entire time. These jaws go down a lot smoother than any other towel companies as they are a liquid-based formula and they taste pretty good.

We use this stuff for fuel, and not flavor, but I like the flavors. The texture works, but I prefer the Maurten. As far as fuel, I feel that I have good energy for the ride, but I come back feeling a little "off." As a reader of this review, one should place limited stock in my evaluation as I am hypoglycemic. To make things worse, I typically do not eat breakfast before my early morning, long rides. Finally, there is the economics of the SiS Beta Fuel that I think is very high.Overall, I am pleased with SiS and will continue to explore different fueling strategies using the SiS Beta Fuel to dial in towards optimal success.

I would use these more but they are expensive. They are also a huge mess. Every time I open one it ends up all over my hands. The package design kind of sucks - the top doesn't open smoothly, ergo I always have a sticky, sticky mess. BUT they taste good and are carby. Needs paired with an electrolyte source. And wet wipes.

I have been trying to find a gel that works well for my stomach for about there years. I have tried most of the major brands, and thought I would give this gel a try based on the high carb content and reasonable price. I've been primarily focused on marathon training this year and I definitely felt the benefits of this gel during both training runs and race days. Would highly recommend!
These strike a great balance between high carbs and price. Both flavors are good - especially the strawberry lime. The size is great given the amount of carbs - it seems to be the same size as the SiS Go gels (which are huge for 22g). The texture is really nice - they are pretty drinkable and don't leave your mouth dry and sticky like others. I don't think they are isotonic and I've always taken with some water, but I've had zero GI issues with them. I usually take one every 25-30 minutes. My one complaint, which applies to the Go gels too, is that the tabs are nearly impossible to pull when your hands are even slightly sweaty. Given the target group for this product, you'd think they would make them easier to open. I either have to carry small scissors or use my teeth. As a result, I'll never use these in a race and just use them in training, until I'm sure I'll actually be able to get them open easily.
I am still figuring out how to use some of these higher carb gels and drinks. For mountain bike races, which are generally under two hours I’ve just been having one right before the start. That plus Skratch in the water bottle seems to be enough to keep me fueled and hold off bonking. I wish there was more information about best usage especially for shorter events like mine. They aren’t cheap so I would like to maximize effectiveness.I like that they offer a neutral flavor as the artificial flavoring of gels can get a little strong.
I don't normally have thoughts one way or another about gels, and they don't tend to bother my stomach, but once or twice I've felt weird about having to taste something rich while racing. This is by far the best tasting gel I've ever ever had, and I genuinely looked forward to finishing it, which has never happened before. It's somehow so refreshing, tastes like candy but not in a sickening way, and it kept me going while on a 12-mile run. Only drawback is that it's big, and on a race it would be kind of tough to draw out eating it over a period of time (since its 40g), but I will definitely continue to use for training at least!
I think that the gel consistency is great--pretty watery and goes down super easy. But oh my gosh, I had the hardest time ripping the tops off!? By my third one (consumed during the same run) I botched opening it so bad that the packet ripped down the side and my hands got SO STICKY...and I still had 5+ miles to go. I can't imagine trying to use them during a hard effort, I would have to stop every time.Pros: great consistency, no stomach issues, 40 carbs/packet (!!)Cons: hard to open, flavors are very sweet (even the neutral flavor)
I was trying this because I have such a hard time tolerating bars and chews and flavors during long rides/ runs. These did not hurt my stomach or make me nauseous AT ALL! Then the info email on hypertonic gel helped me understand how to use these. Thank goodness and Finally Ive found something I can actually look forward to using. A+.
I ordered a few flavors but have only tried the strawberry lime so far. It wasn’t bad honestly. It has a slight aftertaste of some childhood medicine, but it’s not overwhelming. I’m interested to see if the other ones have this as well. Maybe it was just the lime part. But a smack in the face of 50 grams of carbs gave me an out of body experience towards the end of my 16 mile run so I’ll probably buy more just because of that. No stomach issues, good texture.
