Length is good, but the finish is rough and rubs the skin off my lips. It's pretty uncomfortable to use. A friend of mine has a very similar version with a rough, matte finished handle, but the spoon portion is polished smooth. Look for one of those instead.

I purchased this product with the hopes that it would eliminate the food getting on my hands when mixing/eating my backcountry dehydrated/freeze dried meal. When using past backpacking type spoons, I would always get food on my hands when stirring and eating the meal. Typically the handles of many back country spoons are so short that when reaching into the bag to get a spoon full would always end with food getting on my hands and knuckles each time. My hopes that this product with having such a long handle would eliminate that. This product exceeded my expectations.

Every backpacker should have a long spoon. They are so convenient for eating food straight out of the bag. After doing some research online I found this one to be the sweet spot combination of light weight, durability and great price. I picked one up for everyone in the family to share the joy! The carabiner is a bonus. You can never have too many small carabiners hanging off your backpack.

I've used this particular spoon for every meal I've eaten for the past 9 months while working at an outdoor program. The long handle is wonderful for getting into the bottom of just about any peanut butter jar, freezer bag, or stirring a drink. Rest easy thoughts of dirty hands—and by association, dirty food. The spoon itself is very lightweight but strong. After 9 months of religious use, it has a slight bend right near the carabiner hole, but that's it! I lost the carabiner almost immediately, as I found it to be more cumbersome than useful. A true gear innovation.
I've bought several items from S2S and everything has been great quality. I love the long handle for digging into a bagged food without getting your hands dirty. The spoon is super light and having the carabiner to attach it is key to not losing it on the trail. Would highly recommend just like all their products.
Long enough for the freeze dried food and super lightweight - some titanium spoons are heavier.More suitable for freezer bag meals than its sister - long spork - no worriers about puncturing a bag.Altitude sports was the only shop I could find it - everywhere else only spork is available.
I have a few comments in response to all of the negative reviews I've read for this product. A large number of the reviews mention that the texture of this spoon is horrible because it feels like sandpaper? I have to say I disagree. It's obviously not the texture of a metal spoon you'd get at a restaurant, but it's an ultralight spoon? I wouldn't think twice about it if I hadn't of read anything. Unless you have major texture issues when it comes to food/utensils, I wouldn't worry about it. I also read about it being too flat that people couldn't use it? The actual spoon part is angled from the body so it's easy to scoop, especially from the bottom of a bag and especially while wearing gloves. I think this product does everything you could possibly need while being ... MoreI have a few comments in response to all of the negative reviews I've read for this product. Have had this spoon for 3 years and it is my official go-to, even at home.Bueno:1. It is solid and stable enough to handle hard frozen gluten-free organic ice cream; because let's face it, that's what you're craving after 12 days on the trail eating nothing but nuts, bars and freeze-dried preservative salty blah2. Size is perfect fit in mouth without stretching out your cheeks like a rabid squirrel3. Angle of spoon is excellent - a bit steeper angle than a standard spoon, making scooping easy (~45 degrees)4. Easy to eat straight out of backpacking meal bags without having to fold sides of bags or getting your fingers messy5. Safely stir meals in pots thanks to long handle (steam won't roast thy tender fingers after a long day at the crag)5. Easy to hand wash ... MoreHave had this spoon for 3 years and it is my official go-to, even at home.Bueno:1. The carabiner is unnecessary and prone to breaking/disassembling. The spring flew out off the carabiner after about a month while I was camping because it does not have hammered ends that fit in either slot on the carabiner, which allows it to spring out if lateral force is placed on it. While the spoon wept, I just added utility cord and attach the end to a bigger biner on my pack. The spoon seemed happier after I reassured her this would be a better fix in the long run and we still get along just dandily.Eat up and enjoy - you'll be the envy of all your trail friends ravenously staring at you while you devour a meal. Especially the squirrels.
Purchased for its light weight and long-ness. Wasn't disappointed :) Have more than one of these spoons. Only improvement would be a slightly deeper spoon volume and a more mouth-ergonomic shape, with little bit more of a point to it. Nice that it comes with free mini clip.
HelloI just wanted to congratulate you on the perfection of the spoon. For the longest time I thought that a spoon was a spoon, it was merely a utensil to transport food to your mouth. And then something odd happened.Eight months ago my Dad bought your Alpha Long Spoon and took it on a week long backpacking trip in Joshua Tree. And he wouldn't shut up about it. From the shovel-like shape with corner radii that perfectly match the curvature of a peanut butter jar. Or the straight edges of the spoon that allow for optimum scraping of bowls, mugs, and backpacker's pantry bags. And even the long handle so that your fingers don't get goopy from eating out of a backpacker's pantry bag. At first I thought he was full of s***.And then I got one of those spoons. And everything he said was true. The evolution of the spoon had culminated in this perfect utensil. An object that excels in every task it was designed for. An object that should be talked about in engineering design classes as a case study of optimum design. And this is the spoon I took with me on my thruhike of the Colorado Trail. It was a critical part of my kit and I loved it.Thank you for creating the best spoon ever made.Sincerely,"The Whistler"
