Sea to Summit Traverse Synthetic Sleeping Bag - TVIII Long

Whether you hike through snow to sleep in an alpine hut or camp out after a summer storm, the Traverse won't let you down. Our unique WaveLoft construction uses thick layers of THERMOLITE insulation looped together to gain extra loft and trap pockets of warm air, providing increased warmth in colder conditions. The baffle construction also eliminates the frustration of getting tangled in loose lining as all lining fabrics are attached to the shell fabric. The Free-Flow triple-zip design ensures your sleeping bag retains maximum warmth and efficiency when needed and multiple ventilation options when it's not. The half zip on the right side of the bag provides freedom of movement for both arms, additional ventilation and means the top third of the bag can be folded down as a mini quilt. The full length, two-way left side zip and separate foot zip transforms the bag into a full quilt for when the mercury climbs higher than expected.

I was struggling to decide for a week on which sleeping bag to get, the TREK 3 or the TRAVERSE. In the end I finally decided that the TRAVERSE made the most sense for my needs. I wanted a warm & reliable bag that was reasonably light weight & comfortable and one that could ESPECIALLY handle the wet ( just in case of a flooded tent or environment. I've been blown away by the quality again as I always am with SEA TO SUMMIT GEAR and this bag was a more affordable option as well. I love the fact that it feels like a down bag as well despite being synthetic y& the inside is so soft to the touch. The only downside for me was it wasn't quite as lofty as pictures suggested but that's ok really as it compresses by around 30 to 40 % which is also handy for my motorcycle ... MoreI was struggling to decide for a week on which sleeping bag to get, the TREK 3 or the TRAVERSE. Just finished doing an overnight gear-test. I was testing a new sleeping bag (this one!), sleeping pad, tent, and thermal sleep clothes all at once. I know, I know - true scientists only change one variable at a time. In any case, when I set up camp it was just below freezing, with about 4" of snow on the ground. The tent was a three-season, with more ventilation than recommended for winter. The pad is also sold as three season, with an R-value of 3.1.Wearing socks, hat, and thermal long johns, I was a little too hot at the start of the night but cooled off quickly and zipped up. The zippers and drawstrings are a little tight, but I prefer that over ones that come undone. The temperature continued to drop to about 24 degrees, at which point I woke up a little cold. ... MoreJust finished doing an overnight gear-test. I put a second layer on my upper body and was warm for the remainder of the night.I sleep primarily on my side, and had plenty of room to move as needed.I came to leave a review that 15 degrees is optimistic - and realized what I should have already known. The comfort rating is actually 27 degrees. I'm quite impressed - that means that my test, flawed though it may be, confirms the temperature ratings listed for this product. I'm looking forward to more nights in this bag, although I am getting a silk liner for warmer weather as I'm sure the material will stick to bare skin somewhat.

I would actually rate as a 4.5. my only issue is the zipper when you unzip the sleeping bag altogether is hard to reconnect. But otherwise amazing. Well worth the money. Warm, comfy and it has now become my favourite sleeping bag. I'll definitely buy another sea to summit sleeping bag if I ever find an excuse to .

Love this sleeping bag
1 October 2024

I bought the tall and wide version because I like my space. It worked well in summer and also on our latest camping trip with temps dropping to -3 celsius over night. I don't go much colder. For the lower temps i use a reactor xtreme liner and will get myself a pair of down booties. My feet are cold at the best of times and the down jacket around my toes kept slipping away.

Very warm. So far have tried it in 2 degree nights and it holds up nicely. Haven’t used it in 0 or below yet, so can’t vouch for that. My partner also approves; We traded sleeping bags and he slept in this for one of the nights - no complaints!

Ok for a synthetic, not quite warm enough
24 April 2024

It's alright. Comfortable, light for a synthetic, but I was cold with a low of 43 in a very sheltered tent with an insulated pad. And getting the thing in and out of the stuff sack is really a challenge. One of my gear pet peeves is when I need to use all kinds of energy just to get things put away. Not only is the sack really too small, it's coated on the inside with a sticky vinyl type material. Presumably that's to help with waterproofing but it really grabs onto the bag and makes both packing and unpacking prohibitively difficult. I haven't decided whether to keep this one yet (and just buy a new stuff sack) - there are SO few down alternatives and this is the lightest I've found, though still seems too big for backpacking.

Pretty, Very Comfortable Surface and warm
18 October 2023

I have been using this sleeping bag for a camping trip in Switzerland for half month in September. There is occasional rain but the bag can still keep warm. The lowest temperature at night I tried was 2 degree celcius. The bag and I performed well because I also wore enough clothes and sock when sleeping outdoor. Overall, I am very satisfied.

Roomy and comfy NOT suitable for cold weather.
19 June 2024

This bag is very comfortable! It is very roomy in the long size. I love these two features. You do not feel bound up in it. I found this 25deg bag cold on a 55deg night on top of a premium Sea to Summit pad. I feel this is only a late spring and summer bag. The zipper snags often.

Solid synthetic bag
11 January 2021

I’ve only had it out on a 45* night so far but within 10 minutes of getting into it, and several times throughout the night, I had to vent it because it got to be too warm. That’s not the bag’s fault; all the bags I’ve had until now are 10-15 years old so I’m used to having to squeeze every bit of insulation out of them that is possible. What I should have done is open up the zipper and perhaps every use it as a blanket instead in warmer weather like I had.The construction of the bag was very well thought-out; especially the zipper design that pairs with the women’s bags and the small loops for attaching cord (I used elastic shock cord) to keep a sleeping mat from sliding out from underneath you are a nice touch.

They forgot to give me the sleeping bag cover
10 April 2020

he company who sent me this sleeping bag.(not sure if it was third party company) Had forgotten to send me the sleeping bag cover for both of my sleeping bags.Instead they place both sleeping in a clear plastic bag. I was not able to call qantas to complain as I was hold for hours due to the cover 19on a side note Not sure why butI purchase two sleeping bags at the same time form the same company and they arrive a week apart? I also received emails confirming that I will be receiving the sleeping bag soon after I already received my sleeping bag for a week.
