Until reading the blurb here I didn't know Jane Austen wrote this when she was 19. Wow! It's really good. I liked it a lot, I also liked "Pride and Prejudice", found "Emma" very boring, this one is my favourite and I haven't read any other Austen yet. I thought it was well-written and I liked all the characters. I was quite young when I read it so some of it may have gone over my head and I might read it again.

This book is much like Pride and Prejudice, so if you liked that title, you'll love this one. Some of the names reminded me of Jane Eyre so I'm sure Jane Austen had read the Bronte books or vice versa.

Immersing yourself in this book is like taking an indulgent vacation from harsh reality. Jane Austen transports the reader to her time and place in England. This is the story of 2 sisters, their devotion to each other, and the different ways that they experience the joys and disappointments of love. There is gentle humor and the richness of coming to know the characters with all their strengths and weaknesses. It is worth reading over and over. And if you like this one, you'll love "Pride and Prejudice".

A beautiful edition of the book! Just wish Chiltern had given Persuasion the same floral treatment rather than the drab geometric design for its cover!
