Sense and Sensibility is one of Jane Austen's best loved novels. The story revolves around two sisters Elinor and Marianne. When their father dies, his estate passes to their half brother and the girls are left without a home or the means to support themselves. With their mother and younger sister they move to a new home--a cottage on a distant relative's farm. Elinor, the sensible sister, and Marianne, the over imaginative romantic, must rely on a good marriage as a means of support. Through their scheming, they experience romance and heartbreak and eventually find balance between sense and sensibility in life and love. Written in the early 1790s and substantially revised before its publication in 1811, Sense and Sensibility is one of my favourites of Austen's novels. The story of two sisters, one sensible in the modern sense, the other with a great sensibility (that is, high emotional reactivity and affectivity), tells parallel tales of love for two sisters, and what happens when it is either inappropriately encouraged or modestly denied. With a familiar tale of a the women of a family forced to live off a small means because they cannot inherit their father's property, Sense and Sensibility is more upfront and cruel about the dangers of femininity and femaleness. Compared to Wickham, John Willoughby is downright wicked. And Lucy Steele is as sharp a minor character as you can find. A thoroughly enjoyable read. A recent publication with a flirtatious and modern-looking cover.

Amazing edition, currently collecting all of the Jane Austen books in this edition. One of her funniest and sassiest books

Book received in a different package to the other 3 (which were in good condition) but Sense and Sensibility was in a poor condition, dog-eared and with what appears to be a student's notes scribbled throughout

Sense and Sensibility is one of those period dramas you like to watch after lunch on Sundays. Would recommend.
After seeing a film production I felt I wanted to see what the author actually said. Read it before, of course, many years ago. Reading it is a much richer more rewarding experience.
This book is much like Pride and Prejudice, so if you liked that title, you'll love this one. Some of the names reminded me of Jane Eyre so I'm sure Jane Austen had read the Bronte books or vice versa.
Speedy delivery, lovely glossy pages with gold foil edges and the front cover is slightly textured with a lovely pattern. My Nan loved it for her birthday!
My mom loves this movie! I bought this for her as a Christmas gift. She doesn't read much, but I'm hoping to change that. She seemed very excited to receive this as a gift. :)
I have bought all of the Hardback Luxury editions of Jane Austen's novels. They are beautiful. Great customer service! Very nice staff to deal with.
A beautiful edition of the book! Just wish Chiltern had given Persuasion the same floral treatment rather than the drab geometric design for its cover!
